This guide is a little long over due, but I'll be guiding you through the unique 6th generation feature, Pokémon Amie. What is Pokémon Amie?First off, what is Pokémon Amie? Well, Pokémon Amie is a game mechanic introduced in the 6th generation that gives the trainer the option to bond with Pokémon like never before! This feature allows you to interact directly with your Pokémon as you feed, pet, play, and even mimic them with your facial expressions! This mechanic also has special benefits to your Pokémon as well, especially in battle. Trainers will notice things such as an increase in critical hit ratio, increase in evasion for incoming attacks, and even an increase in endurance of attacks when an attack could of knocked them out! Where can you find Pokémon Amie?Pokémon Amie can be accessed in-game using the L/R buttons to switch through the other tabs on the bottom screen (like Super Training and the PSS!) for Pokémon XY. While in Pokémon ORAS, these are all found in the PlayNav of the PokéNav Plus. Well, now what? When you first open the menu, you'll notice three buttons right away. These are Decorate, Play, and Switch. â—‡ Decorate (Far Left) In this mode, the player can customize the space on the bottom screen by putting up decorations (up to 30 maximum) and add new wall papers. You can also leave out a Poke Puff to attract more visitors stop by and give you items! When you unlock a new difficulty in a mini-game, earn a five star rating on a mini game, have a Pokémon reaches a certain level of affection, or have visitors give you free stuff, you also can unlock and earn new wallpapers and items. â—‡ Play (Center) In this mode, the player gets to interact with their Pokémon in a variety of ways. This means petting and feeding your selected Pokémon. However, if a Pokémon is inflicted with some sort of status condition, you will not be able to interact with your Pokémon. â—‡ Switch (Far Right) If you want to switch your Pokémon out for a different Pokémon to play with, you need to go through this area first. This is where you can also see how your Pokémon is doing in the three main stats of Amie: Affection, Enjoyment, and Hunger. What are the benefits of Pokémon Amie?I've already given you a few examples of the benefits of Pokémon Amie, but here's the list of benefits! At affection level 2 and higher: â—‡ The Pokémon will gain 1.2 times the normal experience from battles. â—‡ Evolve Eevee into Sylveon. Note: The other requirement is that Eevee must know a Fairy-type move when it levels up (this includes learning it as a result of leveling up). At affection level 4 and higher, a Pokémon can sometimes: â—‡ Avoid Attacks, even moves with 100% Accuracy â—‡ Endure attacks that could otherwise make the Pokémon faint and survive with 1 HP (including confusion damage). â—‡ Shake off Status Conditions at the end of the turn At affection level 5 and higher, a Pokémon can sometimes: â—‡ Have a higher chance at getting a critical hit The Stats of Pokémon Amie?I brought this up earlier in the post. Pokémon Amie has three main stats: Affection, Enjoyment, and Hunger. These stats are affected primarily by the Trainer's interaction with the Pokémon. â—‡ Affection: This stat determines how affectionate your Pokémon is with you. Keep in mind this has nothing to do with friendship. Compared to Enjoyment and Hunger, this stat arguably is the most important one out of the three. This because this stat will allow certain Pokémon to evolve as well as give you in-battle benefits depending on how high the affection level is. This stat will NEVER decrease and the highest level is 5. To reach a new affection level, you are required to reach a certain amount of hearts via Play. I'll go into more detail a little later down the post. Level 1 - 1 Heart Level 2 - 50 Hearts Level 3 - 100 Hearts Level 4 - 150 Hearts Level 5 - 250 Hearts â—‡ Enjoyment: This stat determines how much your Pokémon has been played with. This stat decreases over time. â—‡ Hunger: This stat determines how many Pokepuffs the Pokémon has eaten or how much food the Pokémon needs. This stat decreases over time. It decreases even faster when playing a mini game. When both Enjoyment and Hunger are "full", an orange music note will appear above the Pokémon's head as it moves. When both deplete to empty, the Pokémon will stop in place on the screen. How do you raise Affection?Firstly, pick a Pokémon you want to raise the affection of in the Switch Screen. Then select Play. In this screen, you can increase their affection by petting the Pokémon, this will be displayed by little hearts floating around them. When their affection level levels up, they'll call out their name a few times in a row and sparkle. How do you raise Enjoyment? After petting your Pokémon for a while, it will eventually stop producing hearts. Now what? Well, time to play with it! Click on the music note icon on the top right of the screen, and here you'll find three different mini games. Each game has multiple levels, you will need to play them to gain access to more levels and to raise enjoyment, but you can also gain more Poke Puffs this way as well! How do you get rid of Hunger? When a Pokémon is hungry, you'll see a sparkle near their belly. Tapping the icon on the top left will show you all the Poke Puffs you have in stock. Just drag these Poke Puffs to your Pokémon's mouth to feed it. Eventually the Pokémon will get full, but just like petting the Pokémon, the Pokémon will gain affection. Higher quality Poke Puffs will provide the Pokémon with more hearts. You can get these through playing mini games. Note: Once a Pokémon gets full, you either have to wait a bit for it to get hungry again or play some mini games. What are Poke Puffs?Poke Puffs are small cake-like snacks that you can feed to your Pokémon to increase affection! Poke Puffs can be obtained via playing mini games or having other trainer's Pokémon visit. Note: You can only have a maximum of 100 Poke Puffs at a time. If a visitor visits you and drops off a Poke Puff, the first Puff in your inventory will be lost. What are the different flavors? The different flavors mainly come in five purely aesthetic flavors: Sweet, Mint, Citrus, Mocha, and Spice. â—‡ Sweet Poke Puffs are pink. If their type is fancy or deluxe, it will have a cherry topping. â—‡ Mint Poke Puffs are green. If their type is fancy or deluxe, it will have a cinnamon topping. â—‡ Citrus Poke Puffs are orange. If their type is fancy or deluxe, it will have an orange topping. â—‡ Mocha Poke Puffs are light brown. PettingThe player may able to pet their Pokémon by using the touch screen to rub it. â—‡ Every Pokémon has a place where it likes/dislikes being petted. â—‡ Petting a Pokémon in a place where it doesn't like to be petted, will NOT increase affection. â—‡ Petting increases affection while decreasing enjoyment. Figuring out where to pet: â—‡ If petted in a neutral spot:The eyes will be closed (the Pokémon will feel contended)and a sound would be made as the cursor moves around the Pokémon. If petted in a favored spot: The Pokémon's closed eyes will become slanted and the sound the Pokémon will make will become high pitched. If petted in a disfavored spot: The Pokémon's eyes will open and the noise produced would become low pitched. Interactions: â—‡ Talking to the Pokémon raises its enjoyment. â—‡ Rapidly tapping the same place on a Pokémon will cause the player to hit the Pokémon and lower its enjoyment. â—‡ If a Pokémon has at least 5 points of affection and the player presses the stylus away from the Pokémon's body for 5 seconds, certain Pokémon, such as the Eeveelutions, Pikachu, or Pancham, will attempt to high-five the player, and their enjoyment will go up if they succeed. â—‡ If a Pokémon takes up both screens of the 3DS, its top half may be petted by either feeding it a Poké Puff or holding the stylus on the top edge of the bottom touchscreen for approximately a second. Special Effects - When petting a Pokémon, depending on the Pokémon, and the location, some special affects could happen to the cursor: â—‡ Burning - The cursor turns red, you will hear a sound similar to a frying pan, and the cursor will freeze for a bit. â—‡ Cutting - The cursor will be covered in bandages and you will hear the sound of slicing, the cursor will then freeze for a few moments. â—‡ Freezing - The cursor turns blue and will make a frozen sound, the cursor would freeze. â—‡ Gooey - The cursor will turn a light blue and will slow down. Rubbing a Pokémon will become very high pitched. â—‡ Haunted- Turns the cursor transparent. â—‡ Paralyzing - The cursor turns yellow, you will hear a sound kind of like static, your cursor will freeze for a bit. â—‡ Slimy - The cursor will look like its covered in sludge, will sound quite wet and will move a whole lot slower. Making FacesSometimes your Pokémon will make a request for you to make certain faces. If you could fill those requests five times, you will gain a moderate amount of affection. â—‡ The game could be be triggered if there is a smiley icon appears at the bottom left corner of the lower screen. â—‡ Remember for your 3DS camera to recognize you, be in a well lit area, and make your face and clearly visible. That's about it! Thanks for reading! Hopefully this gives you a little insight on Pokémon Amie!Sources: Bulbapedia, Serebii
So I always wondered about how you could make a Pokémon less hungry after you give it some Poké Puffs and if mini-games do indeed help. Turns out they do. But i'm not good with making the faces the game wants me to...
