"H-Hey, not so fast!" Amai giggled, trying her best to catch up. She may have been an excellent acrobat and a master of martial arts, but her legs were still shorter than Damian's. "I can't run as fast as you!"

As the two made their way towards the Lake, the feeling of impending doom seemed to be lifted from the air. But, when they eventually arrived, it fell back on them like a sack of bricks. Surrounding the lake were many tent-like structures, each with men and women in space suits and teal wigs entering and exiting from them. The tents were a blank white, with the only stand-put feature being a large, golden G insignia on each of them. It was Team Galactic, the organisation that they themselves were a part of. Amai instinctively hid behind a tree and some bushes, as to not be spotted. Not that it mattered, since she was in casual clothing, and had a small chance of being recognised. Damian, however, with his signature green fauxhawk, was a different story.

"I can't believe Team Galactic is here! What do they want; were we not just sent on a recon here?" she whispered to Damian, before noticing someone enter the cave in the centre of the Lake. He had cobalt blue hair, stylised to resemble horns of some sort.

    "That's Commander Saturn!" she hissed.

"Yeah, you're right." He confirmed as he got a visual on the Team's second-in-command. Somehow Saturn seemed even more sinister than Cyrus. Sure, the Boss was a cold man with almost no displayed emotion, but Saturn? He was actively dire. "I almost wonder if they're expecting us to still be there."

Much of the perimeter of the lake was dotted with floodlights brightly illuminating the area Galactic was working with. Between a cluster of tents and near a small barge at the lake's shore, Saturn stood speaking to two technicians in what appeared to be full containment suits with visors turned upward. Saturn spoke to them, too far away to be overheard, but making sharp gestures with his hands as if accentuating the importance of precision in whatever was happening. The two technicians nodded, flipped down their visors, and then stepped onto the barge to be ferried to the lake's island. Saturn turned away from them and stared directly in Damian's and Amai's direction for a moment before moving into a tent. Damian panicked for a moment even though there was no way he could see them. His eyes were adjusted to the brightness of the worksite, and they were shrouded by brush and darkness. Still, it was unnerving.

"Before you ask," Damian said, whispering quietly enough that he wondered if Amai could even hear, "no, I don't know what's going on here. Mars would have told me, but," he looked around the site once more to be sure, "she doesn't seem to be involved in this either." He growled, frustrated by the combination of being uninformed of whatever this plan might be and the near impossibility of finding out without risk. "We need to get through there, but we can't exactly force our way in without trouble. If only I still had Crobat Nightwing with me." He turned his attention to the canopy of branches above, imagining how easy it would be to glide over to the cave. "Oh, I mean, you want to get in there and figure it out too, right, Amai?"

"I-I don't think we need to..." Amai whispered back. But she wasn't whispering to further conceal herself; she was whispering because she was afraid, and she was afraid because technicians had exited the cave, with Azelf in a glass container. It was physically suffering, trying desperately to escape. The technicians handed the container to their commander, who opened it. Amai assumed they had just done it so Azelf wouldn't run away, and that Saturn simply wanted to speak with it, but she soon found out that he had other plans for the Willpower Pokémon. He practically ripped it from the container, clutching it by it's neck and shaking it violently, screaming at it. Even though his voice was loud, the pair was still too far away to make out the words he spoke, even with Amai's better-than-average hearing. But one thing was certain; Azelf was being tortured. Amai covered her mouth in shock, tears welling in her eyes. Then she ran, as fast as she could, all the way back to Sunyshore. She didn't bother to see if Damian was following her, nor did she care; she was so distraught with what she had seen that she had to get as far away as possible, as quickly as possible.

"Amai!" Damian shout-whispered after Amai as she disappeared through the brush of the forest. And disappear she did: between her surprising athleticism, the cover of night, and the natural woodland growth, she was entirely lost from Damian's pursuit even as he neared the forest's edge close to the main Route. He scanned the open inter-city road and looked back into the forest. "I'm not letting this stand."

He slunk back through the forest, keeping low and quiet in case Amai's sudden departure was noticed. Eventually he reached a point near their prior observation, just far away enough not to be noticed. As Saturn entered one tent followed by a tech carrying Azelf's occupied container, Damian became aware that he was then crouching in exactly the spot he and Amai camped on their first recon of the lake. The tree Amai passed the night perched within to his right, and the crook of roots Damian himself tried to slide into to his left. It was all the same.

As Saturn was in the tent for several minutes, Damian hatched his plan and put it into action without hesitation or extra forethought. He let Nix the Weavile from her Pokéball, and explained the procedure. Sticking to the shadows, they would split up: cutting power cords or otherwise disabling the generators throughout the site, eventually spreading confusion and a panicked rush to restore the Galactic mission to operationality out of the darkness, and hopefully also separating Azelf from its captor. And within a minute, the plan was nearly complete: every last generator was disabled by the combined effort of Damian and the stealthy Dark-type Pokémon. Bowl-cut grunts huddled around the devices, struggling to make repairs in the darkness while Nix and her trainer met back up outside the Azelf tent. Saturn was nowhere to be found, so the two lone heroes flung open the flap-door of the tent, only to find him still standing in there beside the glass pod, leaning down to be at eye-level with the weakened Pokémon within. Time seemed to slow for a moment as the Commander turned away from Azelf to make eye contact with with the intruders, even in the darkness his face noticeably changed to an expression of mixed confusion and accusation. Damian stopped reflexively with a skid across the ground, and as soon as he registered what happened, ducked his head and turned to sprint back to the forest with Weavile close behind.

He didn't even slow down from a full run until he reached the named streets of Sunyshore City. Weavile managed to keep up, somehow, and he briefly congratulated the Pokémon and drew her back into her ball before taking a deep breath to measure what happened. Through the excitement and panic, he lost track of time, but Amai had at least five whole minutes of a head start.

And he left her alone for that interval.

That price was not worth the real gain, which was itself a loss.

He cursed himself as he came to the realization that the idea was poorly conducted, an undeniably hasty and ultimately regrettable decision.

Damian only slowed down enough to keep his pulse from killing him as he found his way back to the room but he was still in a state of worry, only now worry of a different variety, and maybe one just as severe. He arrived at the room's door on the hotel's terrace and slid his copy of the keycard into its slot. He creaked the door open slowly. "Amai?" He whispered. No immediate response. He wondered for a moment if she might have gone somewhere other than the room, or somewhere other than Sunyshore entirely. He pushed the door open again and calmly called her name into the darkness.

"D-Don't come in!" Amai stammered, before the sound of retching could be heard.

Amai, after dealing with everything that happened since that first mission; the stress from being alone, the horrible food from the stake-out, the fear of disappointing Damian, the happiness she felt when he confessed his feelings to her, the anxiety she received from her contact with the mysterious orb, the shame and stupidity she felt from almost killing herself and Damian, and now the horror she just witnessed at the lake. All of these feelings, and that one bad meal, had combined together and forced themselves out of Amai's body in the most vile way possible.

When Amai first arrived back to the room, the feeling was a simple chest pain she passed off as anxiety, but then she began to feel light-headed and upset in the stomach, causing her to bolt to the bathroom. She had been wrapped around the toilet bowl ever since, her skin as white as a ghost and her eyes were dark and sunken. This was definitely one of the lowest points in her life.
