Group RP Pokemon: Evolution Quest (IC thread)

Like Aine, Blacky's ears perked up at the whinny sound as he stood up. "Uh... huh?" curiosity ensued on his part. But who's Glastrier?

 

Xuehua paused. Was that a Ponyta on its way? ...Would all four - no, five, counting Calyrex - fit on one Ponyta?!

 

Atelier's ears also perked too. "Wh-what's happening?"

"Wha--?"

Before Blacky could process whatever just happened, Calyrex had already mounted on his icy steed (That must be Glastrier, Blacky thought). The Umbreon quickly shook his head as Glastrier ran ahead and turned to everyone else with a sly grin. "Last one there's a rotten egg!" he playfully yelled before running off himself. Why, he might even need to go quadrupedal mode (i.e. run with all his four limbs) to try catching up with their lead if the latter was too quick.

 

"Hey, that's not a fair race!" Though Xuehua's initial statement seemed annoyed, she had quickly picked up into a run behind Blacky. Those thoughts that plagued her mind for a bit seemed to melt away as she prepared to catch up with the squire ahead of her.

 

How does Blacky run even in weather like this? Then there was Xuehua who was practically resistant to the cold.

Atelier turned to Aine. "Let's get going," he said before quickening his pace to catch Blacky and Xuehua.

One racing session between the Eeveelutions later (though they're still right behind Calyrex and Glastrier), the group had arrived at their destination. Blacky, for one, still couldn't believe his eyes now that they're there. He did feel a little warmer thanks to all the running, though.

(I'll leave how the gang's surrounding looks like to... whoever wanna explain it.)

 

The lair was a big cube of ice, designed to intimidate. A blizzard was blowing violently around it and the group was lucky to be not caught in the wind all around them. That said, it was probably best to steer clear of any wind. The wind would cause body temperature to drop within minutes.

It was also tall too. From Atelier's view, the Dragon King was likely at the top. But flying up was not an option. Not with this blizzard blowing around.

 

As she skidden to a stop, Xuehua pulled out her only unaffected-by-temperature staff - the Luna one carved out of a Moon Stone - and with her other limb, held a palm to the Prismatic Orb in her bag, preparing for combat the second they stepped in. "So, Blacky," she started in between breaths. "Who would you say won this round?"

...it was probably Glastrier. Calyrex is sitting on their back, but he's technically a few inches behind their front hooves, and the two of them beat the rest of us... why am I thinking about this when there's a dungeon in front of me?

 

Really now? Blacky thought Xuehua's getting too competitive there. I mean, it was just a fun race meant to nudge everyone to come along. Shaking his head, he turned to Calyrex (who was still on Glastrier's back) and remarked, "I'd say they won." Yep, even Blacky himself made a point not to take over the lead.

And then regret started crawling on his back upon realizing that he forgot to check the stores out for some pairs of non-slip boots.

(Random thought: I think some non-slip boots in treasure boxes would be nice.)

 

(Not a bad idea. Maybe after clearing the first floor?)

Atelier sweatdropped. So not only Xuehua was jumpy and trigger-happy (at least, until the past hour), but she was also competitive! She looked like she was having fun, at least.

"Right," he said to the party. "Make sure you're dressed warmly as we head in. This will be a dungeon that we'll need to handle delicately. Remember: staying warm is top priority!" Then Atelier looked above and could barely make out the top of the cube. It was reachable but with this blizzard, that made it seem much harder.

 

Xuehua, unlike the others, stood tall against the winter blizzard, only flipping up the hood of her cloak so that she could see through the blizzard. Then after a moment of checking everyone else seemed fine, she moved towards the lead, hopefully managing to shield some of the other Eeveelutions with herself. C'mon. This is only going to be the third... well actually, it should be more like twenty-eighth worst thing you're going through on this journey. There's been a LOT worse.

Eh, whatever. No time for regrets. Now that the wind got stronger, Blacky pulled up both his trusty yellow scarf over his mouth and the hood of his cloak over his head. And with the Flametongue (i.e. fire sword) on hand, he looked around to see if Calyrex and Glastrier were still there before entering the frosty lair.

 

Atelier made sure his usual cloak was tightly sealed so that wind couldn't blast onto his fur. As well, he tightened his scarf around his neck for good measure.

The interior of the first floor showed the expanse of a dark ceiling and it was cold within. It was hard to see what was in the void because of the blizzard blowing around. It was fortunate that the limited light was able to show the ice bridges stretching into the expanse. The tricky bit, of course, was to maintain temperature while not melting the ice bridge. The bridges were strong, but brittle. They were also wide, for now.
