like pressing A to catch a Pokémon quicker like i was told ALL the time as a kid but it never really worked. >.>
I remember the pressing and holding A while trying to catch a pokémon was the most believed and well known one among me and my friends for Gen 1. Then later I remember a really silly rumor for Gen 4 that if you said "Got ya" into the mike of the DS you'd catch the mon, that one was too silly for me to believe but some did believe it worked till they tried and realized it was a yet another lie. XD
I was told some very specific lies about pokerus, like it only came from Yanma and a level 100 Pokémon with pokerus would actually be level 150; as well as some lies about breeding, such as breeding a Pikachu with a Squirtle would get you Pikablu Marril. I was young and gullible back in those days, so I don't feel bad about falling for such silly lies.
Like nearly every other Pokémon player out there, I too fell for the "press A/B quickly to improve catch rate" charade. Even though I quickly picked up on this habit and retained it for a long time, needless to say, I didn't notice any improvement in the overall success rate. Even though I temporarily 'broke' said habit when I got back into the main Pokémon games with Generation VI, I have (unfortunately) gone back to doing this sometimes with the Virtual Console Generations I and II re-releases.
I used to believe that pressing A right when a Pokéball closed would increase the catching odds, and pressing B with a Great Ball would produce the same result. Heck, I STILL think it works sometimes.
the worst one i fell for was one time someone convinced me that if you sweep Pokémon soul silver with only a ditto traded at the first point in the game and used that ditto to then sweep Pokémon pearl i would get a special Pokémon, rip around 3 days
Yes I too fell for the pressing a repeatedly trick to improve catch rate. After I became older, I realized it didn't work but kept doing it any ways because it was fun. Also I fell for the lie that if you run inside caves and grass, you meet Pokémon faster. Well, that's not true for the earlier games, like gold.
I used A/B since I heard of it somewhere off the grapevine. Something felt reassuring about mashing those two buttons whenever I attempted to catch a Pokémon. I still use it to this day but mostly for the meme and the fact that it gives me something to do when I'm waiting for the thing to be captured.
I'm sure most of us (me included) have fallen for the "Press A or B to have a better chance at catching a Pokémon" trick. One I fell for, though, that probably wasn't as common, is that if you beat the Champion's tournament in the PWT in B/W 2 8 times in a row, they give you one of every main series legendary. I feel bad for falling for this.
Like many others I always fell for the 'catching Pokémon easier' trick, but for me it was B and the right button. I still do it mostly out of habit, but yeah.
Yepppp. Kid me fell for this too. Probably why the buttons on my GBA are so buggered, now. Also fell for the rumour of the next Pokémon games being Pokémon Diamond and Jade, back during '03/'04. Gooood times, yoo.
Like most people, I was also convinced that pressing certain buttons would make a Pokémon easier to catch. For me, it was L and A, because of the 'Button Mode' option in the game's Settings, I thought that meant 'Buttons to press to make this game easier'. 9-year-old me was just that desperate to catch Uxie, I was willing to believe anything if it meant making my quest easier.
