"What was that?" the fortress guards hurried away from their post when they saw the fireball and went over to investigate. That gave Korrina and Belle enough time to quickly sneak shots at the other unsuspecting soldiers. With Belle using Sweet Scent, there was no way the guards could escape. Soon, Korrina's fellow rangers began infiltrating the fortress.

"We only need one perfect distraction, and when the fortress realises it's under attack, it will be too late," Korrina said. "First, we should probably secure the supplies before attacking. Hopefully, we won't need to fight at all."

Leon had unknowingly slipped his arm to Michelle's back, as if returning Michelle's gesture. "Maria..." he whispered, still dreaming.

 

"It's fine. You've done what you needed to do," Korrina replied. "Alright, let's go get our raiding done!"

It had not taken long before Korrina's allies came back. "Alright. The supply depot is secure. Nothing's going in or out until we say so."

"And the armoury?"

"That too."

There were not that many soldiers or merchants around, and whatever soldiers were around were patrolling the fortress grounds. Now that the group was on the high ground, they had the element of surprise. "For Yantara," Korrina said, as she threw a flare to the ground while Belle unleashed a Leaf Storm to surprise much of the enemy. Chaos followed, with the Flare Guild completely off-guard and Korrina's rangers setting off fire bombs across the fortress. The captain eventually came out with a number of tough-looking troops to see what was going on, and found the fortress ablaze.

Leon felt the outside tremors in his sleep, which was enough to stir him. "Maria... It's okay."

 

The battle continued. The Flare soldiers couldn't grab their weapons as the armoury was taken down. So what the captain did was send merchants out to Yantara to gather reinforcements. However, little did the captain know that the reinforcements were already taken down by Ian, Belle, and Korrina. With the Flare Guild vastly outnumbered, Korrina went to face the captain.

"Ranger Korrina," the captain said. "You were unwise to attack us. Now, with you captured, Yantara will lose its hope. With that ranger and rogue captured, neither does the rest of Kalski have any hope."

"Oh, I think you're being overconfident," Korrina replied. "I've got some powerful friends to help me!"

(Belle, Ian, and Korrina encounter Flare Guild Captain and Heavy Flare Guild Soldiers x2!)

Leon held Michelle closer to him, even though it was just his one hand against her back. That was when he realised something was off and he tried to open his eyes.

Leon heard Michelle's whisper and that was what forced him awake. Suddenly, he realised that he and Michelle were pressed against each other, with his arm around her hip and her arm around his neck. After that, he swallowed heavily and slowly removed his arm away from her, but no way could he remove her arm from his neck.

 

Leon's face reddened. "I... I can't. It's too much," he admitted. Especially when you're not dressed, he thought to himself. At the same time, the soldiers who were watching over the prison cells were called to go outside.

"Ugh..." Korrina groaned as she clutched her side, and collapsed to the ground. She was badly wounded.

"Korrina!" Belle squeaked. She adjusted her hat before attending to the ranger.

"I'll survive..." Korrina weakly said. "I think we might have won..."

The fortress, with the bulk of the soldiers and merchants largely outclassed and the area in flames, didn't seem to last much longer. The supply depot had been raided with Korrina's allies capturing its entirety. It would have helped if the fortress had guild reinforcements, but they were nowhere to be found.

 

Belle nodded in agreement. Soon enough, she and Ian had gotten some support from the other rangers to help Korrina. Other rangers, meanwhile, were removing hoarded supplies from the depot and transported them onto wagons towed by Tauros. There were a lot of supplies here, in which Belle suspected were meant to supply Flare Guild operations at Sekitai and neighbouring Tempera. Moreover, though, Belle suspected this fortress was meant to reinforce offshore operations - and Lalusi came to mind.

Eventually, Korrina was seen to by her peers. "She needs to see a cleric, immediately," a ranger said. "Lady Bellossom, Sir Typhlosion, we'll take it from here. See if there is anything else you can help with Korrina."

"But... but Leon..." Belle squeaked.

"Or, you could always sweep the fortress with us. That would help," the ranger added.

Back in the prison cell, Leon finally sat up and rubbed his eyes with his wrist. He helped Michelle sit upright too, as her arm was still around his neck. "It seems pretty quiet right now," he remarked.
