    "So... two more to go?" Kenji double-checked. Vanessa did say that he/they (Vicky was still there when Vanessa said this) needed three wins against the club members and apparently this was Kenji's first one.

    One card shuffling later, Kenji drew his first 7 cards for the second match. This time it turned out to be a Basic Pokémon card, an item card, a Stage 1 Pokémon card, and 4 energy cards. He obviously had no choice but to put the lone Basic Pokémon card as his active one.

    Sure, that was one way to scare challengers out of their wits. But Kenji's reaction? He just raised an eyebrow upon noticing Vanessa checking with the referee about... whatever her concern was.

    Anyway, Kenji drew a card, attached an Earth energy to his Diglett, and deferred his attack (he couldn't even attack on this turn, remember?). All while wondering what was even going on.

    (If Vanessa is checking with the referee, all gameplay is stopped while you wait for the referee's ruling.)

    Even though most of Venipede's variants were free to use in casual play, there was concern in the wider TCG community about Rollout. In a real Pokémon battle, there was a chance it would miss before it got powerful. TCG players had no such protection, and the PTCGA had ruled that Rollout could be used on a case by case basis--this was what Vanessa was discussing with the referee.

    (Since this is Kenji's first case of potential infractions, an IC explanation (and maybe someone calling him out on the gameplay pause) would be nice here.)

    [Hey, uh... what's going on here?] Ginchiyo asked everyone present only for her human to shrug. Like, an "I dunno" shrug. He only watched about a quarter or so of the Six Spirits' TCG playlist about banned cards, so he probably hadn't watched the video of Rollout's case yet.
