Hey all! I was just curious; What d'yall think of an MMO, where you can freely roam the Pokémon universe? It's likely never to happen, but it's fun to imagine
I believe a fangame called PokeMMO already exists as a Pokémon MMO! (you can see other people! REAL PEOPLE!) I'd like to see something like this in the main series though! It would be a nice way to branch away from the normal "formula."
It would be pretty cool...although imagine the lag...and the glitch possibilities! It would be pretty awesome, though. #MissingNo
Wolfey is right, that fangame does exist and it works pretty well from what I remember. An actual MMO from the developers of the actual games seems to be unlikely, but hey Pokémon GO worked out better than anyone imagined so maybe something like this would too sometime in the future. XD If it works well, it'd be awesome.
A Pokémon MMO would sound interesting to play, but I'm not really sure if Game Freak would decide to do something like that. They've played it safe with the Routes and everything, but IF they decided to do that, I could see the story being a bit more mature, since you're literally out on your own, with no guide to help you.
@[member="WolfeyStar"] I just Googled it now, looks very similar to Pokémon Revolution Online (which is also a fun sprite-based MMO where you interact with real players). I was thinking more of a 3D Third Person environment, almost like a WoW re-skin. I've never actually played WoW but I've been informed there are mounts. Well, we have mounts in the Core games now So that would work! @[member="karatekid770"] Exactly that! Pokémon Go! proved that millions of people are interested in Pokémon, even those "casuals" who grew up with it, but wouldn't really pick up a 3DS and play X, Y, Sun or Moon or whatever. I think a 3D Third Person MMO would sell like hot cakes xD It would be pretty awesome, imho
I've been thinking that the best possible approach would be something that takes the design and look of Zelda breath of the wild and implements even just the first 150 Pokémon before updates in an open adventure style format, where instead of finding them in the grass, you may drop into a cave with a huge correctly scaled charizard in it and have to either face it or run. I like the idea of swimming through water to find the deeper rarer water mons and the feeling of scale when you have to rummage through bushes to find smaller ones like weedle. And you could ride on a lapras maybe :'D ahh I just want those snap exploration vibes but without being restricted to the cart tracks, with a world that looks as good as botw. I don't have high expectations about whether we can battle with them or not just the exploration and interaction would be enough.
