Whenever I do a playthrough, all of my Pokémon will share a common theme with their nicknames. For example, I have a team where I have Plate the Pikachu, Nidoran the Knife, etc. Do your teams ever have matching nicknames? What are some teams that you've had?
In one of my playthroughs of Moon, I named my entire team after Overwatch characters. I remember having an Alolan Sandslash named Mei, a Salazzle named Sombra, a Decidueye named Hanzo. That's really the only time I remember doing something like this.
I rarely nickname my Pokémon outside of Cosmog and the Sun and Moon title legend. Other than that, it's usually whatever they make me think of. For example I have a Decidueye named Robin because it makes me think of Robin Hood, and a Charizard named Helios because it's Y Mega has Drought. I also named the Charizard I use on Showdown Apollo for the same reason.
There was something my sister used to do back when she played Pokémon ;-; So she named the Pokémon based on their gender. I oddly remember she had a female Alakazam named Ava. If it was genderless then she gave it some random name (like a Bronzor she named Mr. Metal) but I never did this. Recently I’ve been doing playthroughs when I give every Pokémon I catch a nickname (like in Sun where my in game team is Flappy Bug, Tropicana, Craigory, Tubbs, Magneto, and Arturo)
One theme that I frequently use is that I name my pokémon after mythological gods. Especially the Norse and Greek ones. One of these playthroughs I'll use names from Egyptian mythology
I don’t usually do that, as I’m one of those people who never give nicknames to Pokémon unless I can actually think of something worth using.
I'm not a creative person, so name themes for me are practically impossible. I have tried, but I can't take myself seriously, or even try to care after seeing their names. So, no, I don't.
My Emerald Randomized Nuzlocke had JoJo nicknames, one run of Yellow had food names. Now I usually just name the Pokémon as I get them, and struggle to keep a overall theme.
I usually stick to being super original and naming the Pokémon after their type... creative, I know. Sometimes I go the extra mile and research (!) Pokémon names, but that’s very rare.
I've used dessert or fruit themes for nicknames before, which was as close as I'd have gotten to a theme. Otherwise they tend to be nicknamed randomly without any relation to each other. Food names are just irresistible haha
I usually name mine after the inspiration for their names. For example, a Vileplume be named Arnoldii because that’s the flower it’s based on. If there’s no interesting lore for the Pokémon, I’ll just go with the Japanese name.
