@Sugar @122 Generation To be fair, a fiddle required far more dexterity then a guitar. But Brandi made it look easy as she segued into a solo set of tunes. No guitar, no piano, no band--just a single solo fiddle.
Alyssa could relate a little bit. Although she didn't ay string instruments she knew how hard (or easy) a solo act could be.
(Thought Martine already did that) Having heard and played several solos for her part, Martine understood what Brandi was getting it. When done right and played right, solos were a lot of fun.
@Sugar @122 Generation "Thank you..." Brandi smiles at her applause. "In my home region of Galar, there is a very specific way to begin a tale of magic or adventure." She then intones over a few soft chords from Brock "Once upon a time something happened. If it hadn't happened, it wouldn't be told."
This was a intro to a take that Alyssa had heard several times before. Most of the stories she could relate to, but maybe this time would be different.
@Sugar @122 Generation "Now, it happened once that one of the king’s herdsmen had three sons. " Brandi begins. "Two of these lads--their names are not important to us--were supposed to be very sharp-witted, while the youngest--let us call him Mat--was thought to be very stupid indeed. The elder sons helped their father to look after the flocks and herds, while Mat the fool, as they called him, was good for nothing but sleeping and doing silly things."
@Sugar @122 Generation "He would pass entire days and entire nights slumbering peacefully on the stove, only getting off when forced to, or when he was too warm and wished to lie on the other side, or when, hungry and thirsty, he wanted food and drink." Brandi went on. "His father had no love for him, and called him a ne’er-do-well. His brothers often tormented him by dragging him off the stove, and taking away his food—and he would have gone hungry if his mother had not been good to him and fed him when the rest of the family was not looking. She caressed him fondly, for why should he suffer, she thought, if he had been born a fool?"
Alyssa was feeling more than humbled by the story already. Some father the main character had. "Talk about a split relationship". Alyssa said to herself.
@Sugar @122 Generation "One day, upon their return from the fields, Mat’s two brothers dragged him off the stove, and took him into the yard, where they gave him a sound thrashing." Brandi went on. "They kicked him out of the house, saying that he would not have food nor lodging until he brought them a basket of mushrooms from the forest."
@Sugar @122 Generation "Mat was so surprised, he hardly understood what his brothers wanted him to do." Brandi went on. "After pondering for a while, he made his way towards a small forest, where everything seemed to have a strange and marvelous appearance, so strange that he did not recognize the place. As he walked he came to a small dead tree-stump, where he placed his hat." “Every tree here raises its head to the skies and wears a good hat of leaves, but you, my poor friend, are bare-headed; you will die from the cold. " Ash fills in Mat's dialogue. "You must be among your brothers, as I am among mine—a born fool. Take my hat as a gift.” "And with that, he wept and embraced it tenderly." Brandi narrates, to "aw"s in the crowd as Ash feigns crying over something.
