The boy playing Captain Vernet wasn't sure what to make of the princess' request to have a unit of musketeers ready in ten minutes at first. It wan't until he heard Brock singing offstage that he got an idea. "Oh yes, I just remembered some new recruits...they will protect you as their first mission!"

Once sure Alyssa and Martine were offstage, the boy muttered "I'll show you what a pain in the neck REALLY is, princess!" The orchestra played an ominous stinger as the lights went down...

"Meanwhile, our heroes were growing bored with the never ending list of chores they had to do." Melody narrated from her nook at stage right. "How were they going to become musketeers if all they did was clean house?"

The lights came up on Ash, Misty, and Brock in another room. Brock's singing had become dramatically slow and bored as he ironed some clothes in slow motion. Misty was nearby, washing an outfit in slow motion, and Ash was folding the clothes Brock had ironed in slow motion.

Ash sighed as he folded another outfit. "Hey, Brenna?"

"Hm?" Misty snapped to attention.

"Let's not let what Captain Vernet said get us down." Ash began. "I'm sure there's SOME way we can become musketeers..."

"We can?" Misty asked as she and Ash made their way over to where Brock was working.

"Hey, Eliwood...we can prove the captain wrong if we just work hard and stick together!" Ash began.

Brock thought about what Ash said, but the more he did, a smile started creeping across his face. "You really think so, Rowan?" he asked, his mood noticeably happier.

"Have I ever let you down?" Ash asked.

"No--and I see no reason for you to start!" Brock chuckled.

The three of them hugged each other before Ash announced "It may not be today, it may not be tomorrow, but one of these days, Captain Vernet is gonna march in here and say--!"

"Congratulations, you three!" came a familiar voice from offstage.

Ash, Misty, and Brock whirled around to see the boy playing Captain Vernet in the room. "You passed the test! I've been watching you guys, and after I thought about it a little, I realized I was being a bit harsh--I really do think you have what it takes to be musketeers!" he began.

"Honest?" Ash gasped. "You mean it?"

"By my honor." the boy held up a hand to prove his point.

"You hear that, guys? We're gonna be musketeers!" Ash cried.

"YAHOOO!!!!" Misty yelled.

"YESSSSSSS!!!!" Brock even jumped in the air, he was so excited.

The lights went down over a triumphant interlude. When they came up again, the audience roared with applause and cheers as Ash, Misty, and Brock paraded onstage in magnificent looking musketeer costumes, plumed hats and all. Ash's outfit was red, silver, and gold, Misty's was blue, silver, and gold, and Brock's was green, silver and gold. A quiver filled with green fletched prop arrows was on Brock's back to complete the look.

"See? I knew we had what it takes!" Ash said as he looked out on the audience cheering.

"We are clever!" Brock announced.

"We are brave!" Misty agreed.

"And we are strong both in body and in mind!" Ash proclaimed. "We will be the greatest heroes this land has ever known!" He then drew the sword at his side. "All for one!"

Misty and Brock drew their blades as well. The three blades created a star-like shape where the three tips touched. "And one for all!"

The auditorium roared with applause as the lights went down enough for the trio's silhouettes to be seen. "And so, our three heroes finally achieved their dream of being musketeers...but the story is far from over." Melody cautioned over the orchestra. "Captain Vernet's first task for them was to escort Princess Caliste on a journey..."

The audience heard the boy playing Captain Vernet saying "Hup, two, three, four! Hup, two, three four!..." in the darkness. The lights came up on a hallway leading to the throne room some seconds later. The boy led the way, with Ash (and Tintri in a miniature version of Ash's costume), Misty, and Brock close behind.

The parade came to the majestic gold door that led into the throne room at stage right. "Wait here while I inform Her Highness you have arrived." the boy told Ash, Misty and Brock before disappearing inside the door.

"This is it...this is the moment we've waited for all our lives!" Ash was giddy with excitement. "When that door opens, we have to make a good first impression."

"Remember, we're on duty, and for all we know, this place could be crawling with bad guys." Brock cautioned.

"Bad guys?" Misty gasped and drew her sword. "Where? Where?" she asked as she swiped the air.

Ash stifled a giggle of his own as the audience laughed over Misty fighting the air. "Oh Brenna...I haven't seen any bad guys yet--that's why we have to stay alert!" he assured her.

"Got it!" Misty replied as she sheathed her blade.

"Aye, aye, captain!" Brock saluted Ash, to some laughter, before focusing his attention on patrolling the hallway. "No bad guys there..." he mused. He walked back the other way. "No bad guys here, either." He walked back towards stage left. "Still no bad guys..." The lights went down as Brock continued patrolling the hall.

"Meanwhile, Captain Vernet announced our heroes to the princess." Melody continued. "What they didn't know was, the captain was planning to get rid of them as well as the princess!"

The audience's quiet speculation and debate drowned out the tense stinger as the lights came up on the throne room again.

Spoiler: The script for this scene:

Vernet: ...these recruits have proven themselves strong in body and in mind, which is why I gave them the honor of protecting you as their first mission...

(Nichole yawns in boredom)

Nichole: Pack a lunch, Your Highness--this could be a while...

Vernet: In fact, it was their true potential that really caught my eye!

Caliste(dryly): Well, the land thanks you and your eye very much...

Vernet: And so, I proudly present... (he make a sweeping gesture to the throne room entrance.) your musketeers!

(Rowan, Brenna, and Eliwood enter and bow before Princess Caliste)

Brenna: Your Highness... .

Eliwood: How may we be of service?

(Romantic music begins as Rowan looks up at Princess Caliste in awe.)

Casliste: That's him! (she gestures to Rowan.) He is strong, wise, courageous...

Rowan: Wow...she's beautiful...kind, and knows just what to do in any situation!

Caliste: Not to mention, he's cute too! (she giggles)

Rowan: I can't believe it...I made the princess laugh!

Nichole: Earth to Caliste! (record scrape)

Caliste: Wha... (Nichole arrives with a covered plate)

Nichole: I wanted to know if you were in the mood for a berry and cheese plate from the kitchen. (she uncovers the plate full of Berries and cheese.)

(Brenna examines the silver knife on the plate.)

Brenna: Nope, just your average table knife...

Nichole: At ease, Lady Musketeer--I would never dream of harming Her Highness.

Brenna: Good, cause you'll meet our combined fury if you do.

(As Brenna is speaking Eliwood is inspecting the plate himself.)

Eliwood: If I may taste test Her Majesty's snack?

Caliste: Why?

Eliwood: We wouldn't want some dastardly figure to poison someone as beautiful as you...

(he eats a piece of cheese)

Eliwood: Nope, no poison--it's safe.

(Nichole nods and gives the plate to Princess Caliste.)

Vernet: What did I tell you? These three have you as their utmost concern.

Caliste: How thoughtful of you all--I feel safer already. (she eats a Rawst Berry as the lights go down)

"...these recruits have proven themselves strong in body and in mind, which is why I gave them the honor of protecting you as their first mission..." the boy playing Captain Vernet rambled. To Alyssa and Martine's characters, it felt like he had been talking forever.

"In fact, it was their true potential that really caught my eye!" the boy playing Captain Vernet went on. Even the audience was bemused with his excitement.

Laughter went up at Alyssa's line. "And so, I proudly present..." The boy playing Captain Vernet made a sweeping gesture to the throne room entrance. "...your musketeers!"

The crowd cheered as Ash, Misty, and Brock paraded onstage and bowed before Alyssa.

"Your Highness..." Misty began.

"How may we be of service?" Brock asked.

The orchestra started a romantic theme as Ash looked up at Princess Caliste in awe...

"Wow...she's beautiful...kind, and knows just what to do in any situation!" Ash was just as enamored, to the audience's bemusement.
