Have you ever been in a match on Showdown, scrolled over a Pokémon and saw an absurdly high speed stat that really shouldn't be fast, or you've watched someone use a specific style of attack (special or physical) thinking "why are they using that, surely this Pokémon doesn't have that good a (physical/special) attack stat" only to find out they do?

    I have a few.

    Hydreigon and Diancie. (Speed)
Hydreigon is a massive hulking beast of a dragon, it doesn't look like it'd ever be mobile enough to compete with things like Infernape and Excadrill, but this thing can have a higher speed than Infernape... I don't get it, seriously, that thing is so huge it looks like it could barely keep up with a Magnezone... Maybe it's because t's Levitating...
Diancie as well, this one makes a little more sense, they appear elegant, but they are still made purely of rock... Rock isn't fast, it just doesn't make sense... but Diancie is somehow just as agile as a Sylveon...

    Sceptile (Attack stat)
God damn it this one irritates me. Sceptile has freaking blades on its arm. The move that was once its signature move (before a number of other Pokémon picked it up) is physical. It's Special attack movepool is so limited, but the physical movepool is amazing. I realise that before the physical special split all grass type moves were physical, but all water type moves AND all fire type moves were physical as well and that didn't stop Feraligator before from specializing in physical attacks, or Blaziken. I just don't get it. AND IT'S BLOODY MEGA GOT A MASSIVE Sp.A BOOST AND LIGHTNINGROD... WHY!!!

One Pokémon that comes to mind that's way faster than it looks? Purugly. What you see is this fat cat who hardly looks like a speedster, yet it's base stat for speed is over 100.

Also, Snorlax should have WAY higher physical defense. When I see big fat guys like him, I think "Almost impervious to blunt damage" yet him and the Chansey line both have really low physical defense. I hope Snorlax gets a Mega form that really boosts the physical defense, because if there's a Pokémon I want to see in OU again, it's Snorlax. And if there's a Pokémon I don't want to see in OU anymore, it's 90% of the flipping tier.

I think of the speed stat as being something more along the lines of reflex speed than actual running/swimming/flying speed. I mean look at Ivysaur and Venusaur. Venus is a stubby-legged blubber-laden behemoth, but Ivy is a light, nimble thing. Venus is older, stronger, and more experienced in battle though, and can throw a punch quicker. That's my reasoning at least.

I disagree with Skarmory's high defense. To me it looks like the bird's wings are flimsy sheet metal that could be permanently bent out of shape by a baseball. Similar with Mantine's special defense, which matches Skarmory's P.Def at 140. I mean it's just a manta ray with no special psychic abilities or anything, but it has higher SpDef than the likes of Cresselia and Uxie. Maybe it's deliberately to give it some resistance to the myriad of special electric moves out there, but it still seems really high.

Ninetales should have more special attack. Looking at its design, its a beautiful fox of fire and one of the more iconic generation 1 Pokémon. Just seems like he should be better because even with drought it still can't hit very hard.

Groudon's 90 base speed is also funny to me. Well, kyogre's too. They both are absolute mammoth's, but because they are 680 base legendaries, they still manage to have lots of speed. Back before showdown showed the possible max speeds of Pokémon, you could pull a fast one over a few guys in ubers with a speedy groudon.

You'd think a chandelier Pokémon like Chandelure wouldnt be very fast, but it's faster than things like Bisharp for some reason.

Umbreon is also incredibly bulky even though it looks to be the exact opposite.

Sometimes I get caught off guard by Tentacruel's speed. For its appearance, it does not look like it has a base speed of 100. That is faster than the likes of Suicune and Kingdra. Even Yanmega only has a speed stat of 95 and this Jellyfish can outspeed it.

I never understood why the entire Hitmon line have unusually good special defense of 110. Hitmonlee is extremely frail in physical defense despite being a Pokémon with good fighting skills, yet it has really good special defense? Hitmonchan has slightly higher defense than Hitmonlee, but at 79 its still is a lot less than it should be since boxing pros are known for being able to take a lot of punches aka physical hits.

Finally, Sunflora. Goodness gracious why must its stats be so terrible. This Sunflower Pokémon looks so energetic and cheerful, yet it has a speed stat of 30!!!!! Why on earth is it that slow?! Maractus has twice as much speed as that! Let me ask you, does Sunflora look like should have the same speed as Bastiodon, a Fossilized Steel Dinosaur with a giant heavy plate for a head? Sunflora weighs 18.7 pounds, Bastiodon weighs 329.6 pounds. Other Pokémon with this speed stat include Slowbro, Magcargo, Steelix, and Snorlax. Shellos the Sea Slug Pokémon is faster than our poor Sun Pokémon. Even in one of its Pokédex descriptions, it says "It gets energy from warm sunlight and is known for its habit of moving in pursuit of it." Its super active in the sunlight and not when its dark, but does that still does not make an excuse for giving this flower a pitiful speed stat and horrible stats/moveset overall.

I always thought Breloom should've been faster (or at least got a +10 Speed buff going from Gen 5 to 6), since 70 isn't much to brag about, AND it's Pokédex entry even says:
If it puts boxers to shame, I'd expect this guy to be a LOT faster. xD

One stat that always baffles me is Weezing's attack. How does a nasty hot gas ball have a base attack of 90? Not only that, but its special attack is lower than its attack with a whopping 85. This thing has basically only good special moves and an absolutely useless physical movepool, besides exploding, which was nerfed this generation anyways.

Anyone seen togekiss' speed? it SUCKS for the OU metagame with its only saving grace being Thunder-Wave if you're running it offensively. Whilst it's typing may be good and it has a good supportive moveset but it's physical bulk sucks too much to make any use out of it.

Miltank is a good example of a Pokémon which is way faster than it looks like. It looks nowhere close to having as high base speed as 100. Can you imagine it outrunning a Sharpedo? I can't.

This. Mitank's tits are definitely jetplane thrusters I swear

IMO it's more of a competitive balancing measure. There's a reason why Gamefreak hasn't done a Pokémon with both high speed and the dreaded 100% accurate Spore.

Electrode. Electrode confuses the heck out of me. How does a sphere have a speed stat of 140?? That things doesn't look nearly that agile! But it's faster than both mega mewtwos??? It's the tenth fastest of all Pokémon! But WHY????

My thought goes straightto Weezing. It has a sucky physical movepool for one, and it is a ball of gas, that barely weighs a thing. Yet it has a higher physical attack. I don't get it. I can't really think of the others that bothered me, but generally it has to do with speed, or an attack stat.

How is attack and defense 10? 10? At least make it somewhat higher to make it more reasonable.
