    (this RP is rated E10+)

Nestled within minutes of Celadon City's theater and entertainment district lies the Kousai School of the Performing Arts. Students come from all over the Pokeworld to learn how to act, how to sing, how to play instruments, how to dance, and more. Those that are not meant to be onstage often find an enjoyable position behind the scenes--writing the plays that students perform, building the sets, making costumes, playing the music for the lavish productions, operating the special effects, building puppets, and spreading the word about it all.

It is not unheard of for former students to teach and mentor the next generation, and many students carry on lasting friendships with their mentors after graduation

You play the role of a new student just entering the school to learn to be an actor or actress. The RP covers the story of your first (and part of your second) year as a student, and the skills and techniques you learn, the roles you play, the friendships and rivalries you form, and the general ups and downs of being an actor or actress in training.

What wonders and terrors await you as a student? Will you join the many students that have made their mark on school history and stages the world over?

KICKS DOWN THE DOOR I LIIIIIIVE

    Character's name: Arin Chen (She/They)

    Character's age: 14

Character's physical appearance: Arin is a young, dark and straight-haired kid with tanned skin. She tends to wear casual-ish clothes, mostly T-Shirts and long track pants, and a light jacket during colder days - a much heavier one in winter.

Character's personality/known history: Coming from a foreign region, Arin desired to chase a career in the performing arts. She grew up in a family of somewhat academic-oriented people. Thankfully, her parents decided that so long as she still could manage fitting in study of the sciences, either through outside tutoring or extra classes, she would be allowed to enter Celadon City's theater school. However, since she is new, she is not exactly caught up with what is going on in Kanto all the time. Arin is heavily studious and passionate, tending to overflow and expand unneccesarily on a subject they enjoy, but tends to put a lot of her self-worth into it, leading to her falling silent out of shame whenever she makes a mistake. They also tend to be very nervous about first sharing or oversharing their interests or picking up something new as well.

Character's course of study: While Arin is currently studying for backstage and a musician (play piano and flute), they also long to be able to have a part in the play - although she knows she'd probably freeze up onstage.

Character's Pokémon: A group of Falinks under the name Chorale as a whole, but individually known as Bass (leader), Tenor, Treble, Contra, Counter, and Bari. Treble is the third Falinks from the front and is visibly smaller than the rest, but aside from them and Bass being different, none of the other four can be told apart, not even by Arin. Luckily they're almost always in order. Almost.

If allowed and if you want to, claim a spot and then take as long as you need coming up with a character. It took me WEEKS to make Arin and they're still not that fleshed out, heh
And who's Meru if you don't mind me asking?

There's no hurry to make your character--take your time.

    That looks great...you are Accepted!

Arin and Ash would get along just fine--Ash is well known for being a flute expert, and has a large collection of flutes of every shape and size.

    Aight, here goes...
    Name: Nora Hansen
    Age: 10 y.o.
Appearance: Basically looks like this but rather petite for her age.

Backstory: Nora is a young girl born at Cinnabar Island, but her family of four had to move to Pallet Town when a volcano erupted in her hometown and destroyed it. Her father was a researcher in Cinnabar's Pokémon Lab who later got a new job in Silph Co., and her mother used to be an actress in Cinnabar Theater. However, they allow their children to pursue whatever careers they desire. As for Nora herself, she does have an interest in the performing arts, just not as an actress. Instead, she opts to be a musician in an orchestra's string section because playing music together somehow excites her.

Course of study: Nora is currently studying to be a musician, starting from violin despite its steep learning curve. She might start with a 3/4-sized violin due to her petite figure.

Pokémon: Ava the female Eevee (a gift from Nora's older brother, Kai Hansen, in her 10th birthday)

Depending on what style she wants to play, Nora would get along with Misty (who started playing classical violin before falling head over heels in love with traditional music), or Serena (who could teach Nora gypsy jazz as well as traditional Kalosian tunes and trad tunes influenced by Kalos.)

    The Academy's Rental Program

Most students that come to Kousai own their instruments. But for those that do not, the school has plenty of rental instruments. From band and orchestral instruments to more exotic instruments from all over the Pokeworld, the instruments are grouped in Rent to Own and Temp Rentals.

If a student chooses to Rent to Own an instrument, they "pay" for their instrument by taking lessons, joining an ensemble or doing some other kind of performances. Once you graduate, the instrument is yours to keep.

If a student chooses to Temp Rent an instrument, they can check out an instrument for the day, or up to two weeks at a time. This option is helpful if you forgot your instrument, or your main instrument is under repairs.

If a student expects to switch one instrument with another for various reasons (e.g. Nora switching the 3/4-sized violin she has been renting for a full-sized one just because she outgrows the former), which option should they choose?

And yes, young violinists do outgrow their violins. Not sure about other instruments, though.

They should pick the size they are the most comfortable with. This also goes for things like brass mouthpieces as well. (The Trio and Serena are equally capable on brass instruments too--while the flute is Ash's first love, he is equally skilled on trumpet; Misty is a more pop and jazz trumpeter, Brock started on trombone, but currently is a euphonium that doubles on trombone and occasionally tuba; and Serena switched from Kalosian horn to euphonium after hearing Brock perform a beautiful solo on his own euphonium)

    The Trio and Serena's Instruments

The Trio and Serena are well known and well liked for being triple threat performers (as great musicians, dancers, and actors) But music is their first love--so they have collected and acquired hundreds of instruments between them, some of which even have names.

Ash's first love is for the flute and flute-like instruments, but he is equally capable on harmonica and trumpet, and not too shabby an acoustic guitarist himself. Fans are aware of his love of the flute, and often send flutes as gifts.

His collection includes, but is not limited to:

Pokeflute x5 (his main one is named Dali)
Tin whistle x20 (he has at least one in every key, but his main D whistle is named Diana.)
Concert Flute (its name is Mizuki)
Piccolo (its name is Kani, since it was a souvenir from Alola)
Recorder x3 (a soprano, and alto, and a tenor--he prefers the tenor the most)
    Ocarina (appropriately named Zelda)
    Panpipes
    Alolan shaman's flute
Bansi (the traditional flute of ancient Kantonian theater--it is famous for its high, piercing sound.)

Harmonica x12 (he has one in almost every key, but needs a few more for a full set.)
Trumpet (its name is Luna, since it is a silver trumpet)

Acoustic guitar x2 (his main one is named Kanade, the second one's name is unknown

Misty started out playing classical violin, but did a complete 180 after falling head over heels in love with traditional fiddle. From hearing her perform, you would never know about her classical beginnings (you can only tell if you ask her to play a slower tune) Equally adapt at traditional Galarian music (which has been quickly adopted as a tradition around the world), Shinouian Highland tunes, Unovan mountain music, and Kalosian tunes (including a little gypsy jazz she picked up from Serena), she is the lead fiddler in the school's traditional music ensemble, the Kanto Ramblers.

But she has proven herself good with other instruments--including a custom made blue trumpet named Sapphire (unlike Ash, who can play both classical and jazz trumpet; she prefers pop and jazz)

Her collection includes, but is not limited to:

--fiddle/violin x3 (her main one for performing is named Rain)
    --Digital piano x2
    --Tin whistle x2
--Trumpet (its name is Sapphire, a custom made blue trumpet made just for her)
--Kibakofue (literally "wooden box pipes", this unusual traditional Kantonian instrument is best described as "a harmonica crossed with a pipe organ" with a haunting low panpipe-like sound. It is traditionally used to accompany several forms of the traditional ribbon dance.

Of the group, music is the heartbeat of Brock's performances, so it is not surprising he has a large collection of instruments--but acoustic guitar is his first love, with low brass running a close second. In addition to his instruments, he is also a gifted singer, and will often sing while playing guitar. He also has a knack for songwriting, having written many instrumental numbers and songs alike.

His collection includes, but is not limited to:

Acoustic guitar x3 (a black acoustic-electric for performances named Notte, a yellow brown acoustic for jamming at home and traveling named Goldie, and a red-black acoustic named Rossa)
Harp (he has been spotted playing the school's harp for formal dances and in solo performances; as well as a smaller minstrel's harp)
Vina (the ancient Kantonian harp; it is named named Sakura, after the Kimono Girl that gave it to him)

    Panpipes (its name is unknown)
Harmonica (a 10 hole chromatic in C--he has sometimes played harmonica and guitar at the same time.)
Alto Pokeflute (its name is unknown)

    Trombone (its name is unknown)
Euphonium (Ariana, since it is a silver instrument)
Tuba (Midori; for doubling and soloing)

Drum set (Kenna, since the set is red)
Frame drum (its name is unknown)

Serena's instrumental journey was influenced by her time in Kalos, becoming a gypsy jazz fiddler that was equally adept on mandolin and acoustic guitar. After reuniting with Ash and returning to Kanto, she finally realized a dream to play flute (inspired by Ash's playing) and then euphonium (inspired by Brock's playing). While she enjoys her flute and euphonium, gypsy jazz and trad tunes will be her first love.

    --Acoustic guitar
    --Mandolin (her secondary)
    --Fiddle (her main)
    --Concert flute
    --Euphonium

Yes! Students can send and receive mail--the dorms have their own mailroom with a package dropoff, and the Celadon Post Office is not far if you need to mail larger packages.

Actually, the orchestra wears a semi formal deep blue and white outfit--white undershirt, deep royal blue jacket, navy pants, and black shoes. (both boys and girls wear this outfit--no skirts for the girls!) Particularly good players may have silver trim, and soloists have a little gold.

    The Seasonal Festivals

Four times a year, the school puts on a massive celebration of traditional Kantonian and Johtonian culture--these are known as the Seasonal Festivals.

Depending on the time of year, there may be different exhibitions and activities, but there are a few demonstrations, performances and exhibits that will always be featured:

    --traditional instrument demonstrations/concerts
    --traditional dance
--traditional theater (both the wild and colorful Tawame theater and its more beautiful and refined Gekijou counterpart)
    --traditional puppetry
--traditional crafting demonstrations (some of which the public are allowed to take part in or learn to do)
--traditional food and drink (alongside more modern things)
    --martial arts/weaponry demos
    --traditional fashion showcases
    --a cosplay contest
--leaf viewing (in the fall); flower viewing (in the spring)

It is encouraged to wear kimonos or other traditional clothing, but modern clothes are okay.

The Trio and Serena are very involved in the festivals, and can usually be found showing off what instruments they own, what martial arts they know, and playing roles in Tawame or puppetry. Serena is also trained to perform various styles of the Kantonian ribbon dance, and will often demo the common styles she knows how to perform.
