(Arin might be most interested in the bansi performance - it could be similar to the traditional wooden flutes back in their region. Oddly enough, looking it up says that it is actually originates from India (the bansuri), with no mention of Japan, though.)
(As for Nora, I'd rather have her join Arin to watch Ash -- by accident. In other words, I'll wait for Arin to see Ash first, then Nora will catch up to them both. Is it okay for you two?)
(Now waiting for what Arin and/or Ash would do... And might as well poke @ChocoChicken while I'm at it.)
@SAF Just then, the familiar piercing sound of a bansi rang through the square, Not surprisingly, throngs of people followed the sound--any time Ash played the iconic ancient flute was a media worthy event. (not revealing what Ash is playing just yet...)
Hm. A traditional Kantonian flute...? It did sound quite similar to some of the older instruments back at home. Intrigued, Arin followed the sound towards the boy playing it.
@ChocoChicken @SAF Ash's instrument was a sight to behold, with ornate flame and Moltres designs decorating the instrument. A red tassel hung from one end, promising its owner a lifetime of great performances. Most of the audience, meanwhile, gawked at the flurry of notes soaring over a backing track of a traditional Kantonian orchestra, Ash's fingers flying over the holes with laser-like accuracy and precision. If he missed a note at all, it went too fast for anyone to notice. (what Ash is practicing)
This song definitely sounded like it would fit right back in at home. Arin admired the speed and complexity of the piece, especially the part mimicking one of a horse's whinny - they'd known a lot of their traditional pieces often mimicked actual noises in the scenes their songs depicted. Perhaps this was a battle song, or a racing one?
@ChocoChicken Ash took a bow for the applauding crowd. "Thank you...that was 'The Hero's Ride to the Great Palace' from the Tawame play 'Phoenix Subdues the Dragon'."
While Nora was making her way back to her dorm room, she heard a familiar bansi being played. So familiar because Cinnabar Theater used to have a bansi player among their musicians. However, seems like she was too late to the party because Ash had already finished his practice session (?) by the time she arrived.
@SAF @ChocoChicken "One number down..." Ash mentally reminded himself. He didn't want to overdo playing at this point. Sometimes playing the bansi felt like playing a euphonium or tuba. But the large air requirement was a crucial part of the bansi's iconic sound. He noticed Nora and Arin listening. "Oh, hi! Just practicing a few tunes for the festival."
Being suddenly addressed in front of a large crowd, Arin froze as a few members in there turned to them. They managed to get out a greeting, but not without a hint of a stutter in it.
Like Arin, Nora was surprised too upon being greeted in front of the crowd. But unlike them, she didn't freeze right there. "Oh! H-hi there, Ash," she gave Ash an awkward smile. Ava, on the other hand, cheerfully greeted him, completely oblivious to the crowd. "Vu vui~"
@SAF Ash just smiled at Ava. "I was just running through a few tunes I plan to play during the festival. Did you like the one I finished?"
"Uh..." Nora sweatdropped. "Actually, Ava and I missed it..." she admitted. One does not simply comment on something they just missed, right?
