Trying their best not to appear mostly completely lost as to most of what Misty was saying - aside from the archery, of course - Arin simply nodded in agreement.
@SAF @ChocoChicken The Pecha Stage was not far from the music building. At this point, the boys and Serena were getting ready to perform "Kanade and the River Demon" for an excited crowd.
(Yo, this has been down for a bit, you guys wanna prop it back up again?) As it was their first time watching a traditional Kantonian tale and performance, Arin too joined the hype, naturally.
It wasn't just Arin who joined in the hype -- Nora too. She got herself a good spot to watch the show... only to feel paws crawling on her back and eventually settling on her head. "Vui~" The little rascal turned out to be Ava, Nora's Eevee, that prompted the young girl to giggle. Oh my...
@SAF @ChocoChicken (I have no qualms with continuing where we left off--but if you want to restart everything, that's okay as well.)
(All right! That's what I meant too heh, sorry I didn't clarify-) Seeing Ava on Nora's head, Arin laughed to themself as well. Perhaps Chorale would want to watch? Although they were a bit too short to see past the crowd, and were a bit heavy to carry as well...
@SAF @ChocoChicken "You all know that Kanade was one of the most famous mikos and heroines to serve the Great Lord Arceus." Brock begins as people gather to watch the performance. Many in the audience nod in agreement as he goes on "But the one thing that pained her the most was the pain, suffering, and death which humankind was apparently doomed to endure. It didn't matter who you were--the greatest sage with great virtue and millions of teachings, a righteous or an evil person, or even a mere child--everyone suffered from one thing or another." He quickly assures the antsy crowd as he plucks out a soft melody on his vina "But this was why Kanade and millions of other priests and mikos devoted themselves to Arceus--to at least ease the suffering of the world, if not end it outright."
A grand tale with a grand opening - now they knew who this Kanade was, likely a hero of many folk tales from the way Brock spoke. Arin listened intently to the instrumentation, following the string instrument's melody as it continued.
@SAF @ChocoChicken Some applause goes up in agreement as Ash, Misty, and Serena arrive with their instruments. "Now, Kanade's devotion to Arceus was so great, he commanded two Legendaries to travel with her and help her battle against evil spirits." Brock explains. "Mew and Jirachi." "So one day, Kanade took it upon herself to travel across what is now Kanto, driving out monsters and helping people with their troubles on the way." Misty picks up the story. "With Mew and Jirachi by her side, they endured many weeks of traveling over high mountains, deep valleys, and boiling hot deserts, to name a few places." With that, the four of them began a melody that evoked travelers to serve as a kind of overture. (leaving what they played to your imagination)
The performance really began to kick in now. The track began to sound something more like what they'd imagined a traditional Kantonian song to once the other instruments joined in. The tale was picking up, too - were all these other places also locations of other Kanade tales?
@SAF @ChocoChicken When the song ends, Ash picks up the story. "They arrived one evening on the shores of a great river, just as the sun was setting." "But the river was so large, all Kanade could see was water as far as the eye could see--and no way to cross it, unless you wanted to swim!" Serena smiles, to some laughter from the crowd.
Nora had been pretty quiet during the performance. Her imagination had been taken to where the story took place only to be broken by Serena's joke (?). And yes, she laughed at that too.
As for Arin, they waited with full attention - was this where the likely main antagonist of the tale would appear-?
@SAF @ChocoChicken "The bigger question was where were they going to spend the night--there was no sign of any civilization anywhere." Brock intones. "Just as they were wondering what to do next, the faint sound of some music caught their attention." Some in the crowd opted to clap along to "First Day of the New Year"--one of the group's go-to "festival" songs. "They followed the festive melody to a village nestled on the hillside, and a small temple standing on the edge of the river." Serena picks up the story when the song ends. "They made their way to the elder's house, which was larger than all the other houses in the village. The elder came out to meet them, and welcomed Kanade and her companions like old friends. When Kanade asked whether they could stay for the night, he assured them that there was plenty of room for them in the house, and that he gladly welcomed them to stay for as long as they needed. He also invited them to enjoy the grand meal he had prepared for the festival that night." (click the link to hear the song!)
Now that definitely screamed "Shenzounese influence". Arin was hit with a rather nostalgic memory of similar melodies back home before they'd moved overseas.
