@SAF Master Mitsu watched Marissa make a slight adjustment. "There you go--just like that. There shouldn't be any bending at the knees or waist, or any leaning." She reminded Marissa "Your head is the only thing that turns toward the target, and your arms are the only body part that moves, okay?" @Ignem (How far back did Cobalt reach? This will affect Master Karashi's reaction.)
@SAF Master Mitsu next showed Marissa one of her own purply blue arrows. "On most arrows, there are three fletchings--two fletchings of the same color and one of them a slightly different shade of the same color. When nocking your arrow, the different color fletching should face away from the bow and towards you. Once your arrow is in position, place the nock of the arrow--that's the split ending at the back of the arrow--on the string of your bow, pushing it in until you hear a subtle click."
Marissa paid attention as Master Mitsu showed her the arrow. She then took one of the arrows matching her current bow after the latter was done with her explanation. Said arrow was black with yellow fletchings - one of which had a darker shade than the other two. "...like this?" the redhead girl asked as she positioned her arrow as instructed.
@SAF Master Mitsu nodded. "Yes--just like that. "Now, form your stance again, and I'll explain how a proper shot should look."
That being said, Marissa tried to redo her stance. Shoulder-width apart... sideways... toes at a right angle to target... Once she got the first part right, Marissa proceeded to position her arrows as she did earlier. (Fun fact: a right angle is a 90 degrees angle in geometry.)
@SAF "To shoot properly, start by straightening your hand with the bow ahead of you, but keep it flexible with a slight bend in the elbow." Master Mitsu explains, demonstrating what she is doing as she talks. She cautions "Whatever you do, don’t lock up your shoulder."
"Oh, I have been doing freerunning for some time, so whenever we jump in that we need to land in the right spot or else we'll fall, " he replied.
"Okay..." Since Marissa is right-handed, she held her bow with her left hand. She'll use her right hand for drawing the arrow later.
@Ignem Master Karashi nodded. "That knowledge will serve you well in the Mightyena style. Once you master the Howling Moon Kick, it can be combined with other moves on the ground and in the air. @SAF "You want to hold the bow like you would the handle of a teacup, with three fingers--typically the index, middle and ring--but keep the thumb lowered." Master Mitsu explained as she prepared her own shot. "There are several different grips, but you pick the one that's best for you."
@Ignem "Mightyena does more than kick." Master Karashi explained. "He can punch and use weapons when kicking is not possible."
Teacup, teacup... Marissa reminded herself about how she would hold a teacup and applied it to the bow. First time archers usually find it awkward, and so did Marissa.
@SAF Master Mitsu noticed her student's awkward position. "It's normal for this position to feel awkward at first. But you'll get better with time and practice."
@SAF "Moving on...to draw, draw with three fingers around the string below where the arrow is placed." Master Mitsu explained. "Try to keep the elbow of your drawing hand in line with the arm that’s holding the bow."
@SAF Master Mitsu studied Marissa's form for a moment. "You're close--try to keep the elbow of your drawing hand in line with the arm that’s holding the bow."
