@Kittimancy Breakfast was already being served to the inn guests. Not surprisingly, Ash had already dug into the miso soup and grilled Magikarp filet.
The breakfast got Haku's appetite that he ended up digging into it and forgoing his sleepiness. And while he's at it... "Say, where can I train for magical affinities? I wanna attune myself to mine," Haku asked.
@Kittimancy "There should be a temple at the peak of the mountain.' Serena explained. "The miko should help you grasp Kaze-hime's power, at least."
@Kittimancy "I can try to teach you what I can of grasping Mizu-hime's power." Misty offered. "We can also strengthen your weak ice affinity, as well."
@Kittimancy Misty nodded. "Since you have a water affinity, you also have a weak affinity to Yuki-hime's power, since water and ice are related. But we can train the ice affinity as we travel."
Paying attention to Misty's explanation, Haku slowly nodded in understanding. It could've passed as a nod of drowsiness weren't it for the young man's interest, though.
@Kittimancy Misty motioned for Haku to come with her. "Let's go somewhere where we won't soak anything for our first attempt."
@Kittimancy The two companions arrived in a wide open field near a river. "Now...to use any of the Tama-hime's power, you don't have to draw power from the environment." Misty explained. "The power comes from what power lies in your heart, and what you have trained to use. That can never be used up, but it can be sealed if you abuse the Tama-hime's power. They do not take kindly to someone using their power for a bad reason.
All Haku could do at the moment was to listen intently to Misty's explanation. No comments needed on his part.
@Kittimancy "To cast a spell, you need to tell the power inside of you what to do." Misty explained. "This is done by naming the spell. Some of the most powerful sages don't even have to call out the spell's name--they name it in their thoughts. Those with musical ability can name it, then cast it via their voice or an instrument. But for the rest of us, we do often have to call the spell's name. Charging power to cast a spell, you don't have to name--that happens automatically." With that, she charged some blue energy, then sent a whorl of glittering bubbles into the sky! "SPARKLING BUBBLES!"
The bubbles from Misty's spell got Haku in awe. He simply watched as the bubbles went up to the sky. And when the show's over, Haku asked Misty, "Can the spell be used with a weapon -- like a sword?"
@Kittimancy Misty nodded. "Spells are different from sword martial arts, but there are spells that enchant a sword, or have a sword attack on its own. That's naming two examples."
"I think we should save the magical swordsmanship for later..." Haku mused, scratching the back of his head. That stuff would be too advanced for his current level anyway. Back to topic, Haku asked Misty, "Anyway, where should I start from?"
@Kittimancy "Let's try a basic water spell." Misty suggested. After thinking a moment, she suggested "Aqua Whip should do it--simply lash a target with a stream of water."
Since Haku left his mandolin in the common room, he might as well try casting the spell like most people do: calling it out loud. He faced to the river, took a deep breath as he charged some blue energy, then lashed it at the river. "AQUA WHIP!"
@Kittimancy Sure enough, a stream of water formed in Haku's hand, then lashed forward like a whip! "Very good!" Misty raved. "Now let's see if you can do it with your instrument--I'll set some targets up while you go get it.
"Okay then, I'll be back," Haku said, then ran to the common room. ... A little while later, the young man came back with his mandolin on hand. He did a random twang to notify Misty.
