Group RP Pokemon: The Road to the Grand Festival (Kanto--IC thread)

The way through Viridian Forest was uneventful, and before long, the mountains of Pewter came into view. The Contest Hall was easy to spot--it looked like a glittering diamond among the normal stone buildings, save for the rubies adorning the Pokémon Center, and the sapphires adorning the Pokemart.

It was not unheard of for Brock to be performing in the street--either playing music in the town square or weaving tales of wonder to awed and amazed crowds. His most likely performing spot was near the Diancie fountain in the square. There were a variety of props and simple costumes nearby to help Brock bring whatever story he was telling to life.

Before long, a large crowd began to arrive at the majestic Diancie fountain. The crowd only meant one thing--Brock was about to perform!

A familiar tenor quiets the crowd. The morning star is shining bright, Brock sang as he met the crowd before the fountain. So make a wish and hold on tight...
There's magic in the air today...
And anything can happen...

After composing his thoughts for a moment, he jumped into his first tale of the day--a trickster tale. "One day, King Entei gathered all the Pokémon together to announce that that spring, they would not only clean house, they would also build a new village. He explained that things had gotten too crowded, and all the others agreed.

But as King Entei spoke, assigning everyone a task, the crafty Pikachu Sorin was too busy watching Pansage swinging from branch to branch, all the while chattering with delight. Sorin gasped as Pansage leaped this way and that, and when he twirled his tail like a noose around another Pansage's neck and swirled that Pansage in the air, Sorin had an idea, for everyone knows that Sorin is quite the trickster..."

Cheers go up at this--any Sorin tale usually started with 'everyone knows that Sorin is quite the trickster'.

"The next morning, when all the Pokémon set off to build their new village, Sorin stayed behind in his burrow to work on a project of his own." Brock intoned, to "ooh"s from the crowd. "He had collected dozens of vines, which he wove together to make a noose trap that worked almost like a Pansage's tail."

He went on "When Sorin was sure he was alone, he tiptoed toward Braviary's nest and whirled his noose in the air, catching the nest. As he pulled it down to the soft forest floor, one of Braviary's eggs rolled out. Sorin picked it up and ran home to add it to his collection of treasures. That evening when Braviary discovered her nest lying on the ground, she called to the others."

"A thief stole one of my eggs! We must catch him!" Many in the crowd laugh over Brock's realistic female voice for Braviary.

"We'll leave the nest here." he replies in a gentle deep voice for King Entei. "The thief will likely return tomorrow to steal another egg. But this time we'll catch him."

The crowd giggled in anticipation--Brock wasn't called "The Boy of a Million Voices" for nothing.

"Now, the Pokémon did not know that Sorin was listening, and he had heard the whole thing." Brock explains. "They would leave Delcatty to catch the thief. Strong and bold as Delcatty was, Sorin wasn't afraid, and that night while everyone slept, Sorin spread his noose of vines across the forest path to Braviary's nest, attaching it to two palm trees, disguising it beneath the forest floor. Then he returned home to sleep."

Giggles of anticipation filled the air as Brock set the scene. "The next morning the Pokémon set off to work, but Delcatty stayed behind to keep watch. Sorin hid in some bushes near the fallen nest, and once sure Delcatty was by herself, he rustled the leaves. Hearing this, Delcatty leaped from behind a tree to guard Braviary's nest, but as she crossed the path, she tripped on the noose. It wrapped around one of her paws, and moments later, she was swinging high in the air."

The audience roared with laughter as they pictured Delcatty hanging in the trap. "Try as Delcatty might to call for help, the others did not hear her." Brock deadpanned, to more giggles.

"When Sorin saw that Delcatty was too busy calling for help to pay attention to the nest, he snuck out of his hiding place and snatched another egg." Brock went on when the laughter quieted. "In the evening when the Pokémon returned, they found Delcatty swinging from the noose and quickly set her free."

"I've lost another egg!" he gasped as Braviary.

"I saw no one!" he protested in a young female voice for Delcatty

"Never mind what you did or did not see. We'll catch our thief sooner or later." he vowed as King Entei.

"The next day, Infernape stayed behind to guard the nest, and once again Sorin set his trap." Brock continued. "When the others were gone, Sorin rustled the leaves again. Infernape eagerly gave chase, and he too was caught in the trap by his foot."

More laughter went up at this. "Infernape was deeply embarrassed when the others returned." Brock grinned. "They all knew that a trickster was among them. Liepard said he could outwit any trickster, but the next evening the Pokémon found him also swinging from the noose."

Giggles rippled through the crowd at this. "One by one the other Pokémon all had their time in the trap, swinging in the air, unable to free themselves, and unable to protect Braviary's nest." Brock went on.

He intoned "Finally, only one egg remained."
