@SAF The group was confused. The notion of being able to talk to anyone in the world over a digital network was mindboggling.
In an attempt to explain how telephone (or practically online things) works in his home world, Alvin decided to start with a question: "Say, can you guys talk with someone far away from here?" He's kinda expecting a magical approach for this one.
@SAF "Well, those with psychic power can do so via thought." Misty remembered. "Those with a gift of chi channeling can also do something like it."
"So only certain people can do it, huh?" the redhead boy mused. Just like Peach, then, he thought about the psychic part. Makes sense, since his Hatterene is half-psychic to begin with.
"Well, I don't," Alvin sighed, having already figured that magical things were way beyond him for now. Speaking of, Alvin figured that it's time to explain how telephone works back home. "Actually, people back home can do that too," he said. "But since there's no magic back home, we need a tool for it."
"This is what we use: a telephone," Alvin took his Rotom Phone out again in response to Ash's curiosity. "When someone makes a phone call, there's some sort of invisible signal connecting them to the one they wanna talk to. And thus, the two can talk however far they are." "The good news, everyone can do it as long as they have a phone," the otherworldly traveler went on. "But the bad news..." he looked down with his tone turning somber. "No such signals exist here, so I can't call anyone..."
@SAF "How would you describe this signal?" Ash wonders. "If it involves electricity, I can try to recreate it with magical means."
Radio waves... Alvin thought for a moment. "It does involve electricity, I reckon," he commented. To be fair though, this stuff was very, very common back home to the point that he didn't really think about how it works.
@SAF (What Ash ends up doing is jump starting the phone with a very weak magical thunderbolt--but it is strong enough to allow the phone to send and receive calls across worlds)
