Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - Ultra Space Trailer Analysis

Wow, what a day for Pokémon fans! 2 trailers in one day - the first focused on the story of these new games, and the second revealing a bunch of new information! You can watch the trailer by clicking the link provided here!



This trailer was focused entirely on Ultra Space. We start the trailer by seeing the player riding Solgaleo and Lunala through what is most likely an Ultra Wormhole, as various glowing rings and mysterious portals fly by. Once one of these portals is entered, the player is allowed to freely roam inside an Ultra Beast's own "dimension". We see this first with the Ultra Space from Pokémon Sun and Moon, which is Nihilego's dimension, which is quickly followed by what appears to be Xurkitree's dimension, and then what we see as Buzzwole's dimension.



Straight after this, we're introduced to "Ultra Megatropolis", a whole different world where Necrozma has stolen the light. Everything in this world is dark, except for the giant pillar of light that is being used as a substitute for the light that Necrozma has stolen. This world is filled with the members of the new "evil team", who we learn are the Ultra Recon Squad.



The Ultra Recon Squad are a mysterious group, appearing with an Ultra Wormhole in the background as they challenge the player to battle. Since they're sentient life forms from another dimension, and they appear to all have skin of a very pale shade of blue, it's safe to say that the Ultra Recon Squad are the first real "aliens" in a Pokémon game, if we count both Ultra Beasts and Pokémon from space (Clefairy, Deoxys, etc.) as still being a Pokémon. In order from left-to-right, the names of these 4 members are Dulse, Phyco (previously known as Zionira in the first trailer shown today), Soliera, and Zossie. Note that Dulse and Zossie will appear in Pokémon Ultra Sun, while Phyco and Soliera will appear in Pokémon Ultra Moon. We can see the beginnings of a battle with both Dulse and Soliera, with each Squad Member having only one Pokémon. Luckily, we don't have to wonder which Pokémon that is, as we are introduced to the brand-new Ultra Beast that they use in battle.



This brand-new Ultra Beast is known by its codename, UB Adhesive. It is a pure Poison-type Ultra Beast with the ability Beast Boost. it is seen using Venoshock on the player's Dartrix, meaning that it is encountered somewhere around the second island. This is also supported by the background imagery of a ranch, Paniola Ranch, and Wela Wela Volcano in the background.



Along with this, we also get more information on the new Ultra Beasts revealed during the Nintendo Direct presentation held in September. UB Burst is confirmed to be a Fire/Ghost type, with the ability Beast Boost. The previously unnamed attack it was seen using was revealed to be a move called "Mind Blown". Mind Blown is a Fire-type move that takes 50% of UB Burst's HP to use, but does a massive amount of damage. UB Assembly is confirmed to be a Rock/Steel type, with the ability Beast Boost. It is seen using Iron Defense and Iron Head.

And that's it for this trailer! Surprisingly, the Japanese one was not that much different, but it's amazing to see such a significance put on Ultra Beasts and Ultra Space in these new games!
