A new Pokémon app has been released in Japan for iPhone, iPod, and iPad devices. This app, called "Learn Real English With Pokémon: Bilingual XY," is a translator app that translates English phrases into Japanese. The app's function is to take photos, snapped by the user, with English text on a Pokémon X or Pokémon Y game, and translate the text into Japanese characters. It's a concept the Pokémon world hasn't seen yet, but some question how useful it is in general. However, users who do want the app may be held back due to the fact that it's not currently on Android devices. It's predicted that, eventually, this app will make its way onto Android, similar to how the Pokémon Style app crossed onto the iOS platform.

What do you think about this? What real purposes could it serve besides being an interesting trinket for users to play with? Do you think it could carry out a larger purpose, or it is rather useless overall?

So it only translates English text from copies of X/Y into Japanese? Doesn't seem very useful, especially since you can already select Japanese as your language in the game for the full-on experience. Not quite sure what purpose this serves but it's a cute little idea that I might tinker with since I'm on iOS. It's Pokémon so.. why not, I suppose? Baha. Would've been awesome if they expanded on this more and included support for OR/AS too.

That's adorable! I think Pokémon's trying to get kids to be Bilingual, especially if they want to pick the English option, and feel like an English player. They can't phase out Japanese, which really isn't their plan, rather it's to motivate other people to pick that option.

You know what would be better? A PKHeX app.

Eh, the app seems okay, I guess? I haven't seen much of it myself, but if it ever does cross over to Android platforms, and if there comes a day where I have nothing better to do, I may check it out.

In my opinion this thing seems pretty darn useless, because its only XY not anything else, and it doesnt work the other way around, then english speakers could finally understand what future gameplay text.
