It's Feburary, which means the release of Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow on Virtual Console for the 3DS is creeping up on us! So, I decided to make this poll to see which version, or versions, everyone's getting!

I've decided to get Blue Version! I was originally tossing up between all 3, but I really wanted to experience the Gen I games as they were before the anime took over, so Yellow was crossed off my list. Then I had to choose between Red and Blue, and I was almost going to choose Red because I really want to have an Arcanine on my team, but then I remembered that we can trade in these games, so I'm going with the preferred Blue Version!

I think I'm just going to straight up get all of them. Here's why: I started out Pokémon during the 3rd generation, and I haven't played any main series games from Generations 1 or 2. Now is my chance to finally play those games. Since I don't believe in using emulators (people worked hard to make those games and I don't feel like cheating them out of that), this will be my first time playing the Gen 1 games, and I'm kind of stoked. I doubt they will take out all the glitches, but even if they do I'll still have fun. If they keep the glitches... then I'll have even more fun. Win-win. Also, I'm pretty rich from a summer of working and the asking price isn't going to kill me at all (I have a PS4, those games are fricken expensive.) I'm most excited for yellow though, as you can get all three starter Pokémon.

... Why on earth would you buy Red and Blue on virtual console? (The operative word there is "and"). They have even less difference between them than any other paired Pokémon games ever. Starting in Gen 2 there was at least the difference of cutscene dialogue and catchable legendaries (or at least which level they're caught at in Gen 2), but in Gen 1 the only difference is literally the title on the starting screen and which of two similar species you're able to encounter (Mankey or Meowth; Vulpix or Growlithe; etc.). I'm pretty sure there's even a gameshark cheat that lets you convert Red or Blue into each other, which (if that's the case), means the difference between the games is literally one byte of data to trigger these differences between each other. One byte of data, that's why you're re-buying the same game.

It's not like you can even use the game as a piece of memorabilia at that point either, since it's just an icon on your 3DS home screen...

I'm not going to buy any of them, to be quite honest. I have other ways to reap the nostalgia of Red and Blue. Besides, I'd rather remember the good parts than relive the good and the bad. The past isn't what it used to be.

I appreciate you trying to tell me what you think is best and that buying both is useless, but I have to politely disagree, because there are things you just aren't seeing. I should probably have gone into more depth earlier.

First off, I want two games not so I can experience the vast differences between the two games, but so I can have multiple save files, which is a luxury Pokémon does not let people have. When I play Pokémon, I always hate having to delete files with my precious Pokémon (I don't have an adapter for generation 3), and now I don't have to. I have played all of my Pokémon games many times, and I feel the same will happen with the generation one games. In this case, if I have a save file that I really like, I can keep my Pokémon on it. Furthermore, I feel like I owe it to GameFreak and Nintendo, because I have been there customer over the years and while they have a lot of money, I want to continue helping them all that I can since I don't buy anything except for the games. These are the reasons I'm planning on getting both. I might not get both, but if I do, it is for these reasons. Thanks for looking out for me, but no thanks.

I would be going with the Yellow version first, because it has Pikachu as the starter, not to mention that it has same voice from the anime. Having it follow me whenever I go is cute as well!
