What do you think the chances of a real Pokéball existing is? Technology is getting bigger and better each and every day, so what are the chances of this happening? How would it work? Let's discuss.

I think it'd be awesome, but we'd need Pokémon for that :P

I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon... Aren't there more important things scientists could develop? Haha... I'm not saying it won't happen, just maybe not for a looooong time.

As for how it would work, I have no idea! :D

It would be awesome, but what would we possibly use it on? xD Animals? That would be abuse in our world (the fighting against each other bit).

If technology develops far enough to create spherical object that have the ability to hold anything, no matter the size, then I'm honestly really scared. That would be one of the easiest things to abuse, thing about it. If there's this certain person you don't like: Put them in a ball! They can't escape themselves, so they're trapped until someone frees them... Dangerous stuff right there...

I feel like it would be something that would be difficult to make not just because of technology, but from an ethical standing point because of animal rights and stuff. PETA would probably attack it because that's what they do.

Lets say they would be able to make pokeballs in the future, it would be a weapon of war, so yeah... not the best idea xD

    Well, this is interesting xD

Real pokeballs would, even if they could make them, never be made, think about the choas it would cause xD

Now I see why they cost 200 dollars in the Pokémon world, haha. These would be incredibly dangerous, but maybe useful at the same time? Maybe Pokeballs have a really cool environment inside them so you could capture a bunch of stray animals and give them their dream area~

It doesn't seem very possible to me as the Pokémon appears to get turned into a beam of light when entering the ball. They must have a very special make up to be able to handle getting caught, called upon and recalled without getting hurt or killed.

On the other hand it would be neat but like others have said they would be quite dangerous as well and there's more important things to develop. But still, RL poké ball still sounds cool.

Well, you've got turning matter into something else, which is almost impossible, along with projecting a beam of light, or plasma, that will pull whatever it touches back, and we've never really seen an explanation on why you can't capture inanimate objects. It's just super duper strange.

Actually... we're already experimenting with this.

First, let me add a massive qualifier: modern technology is nowhere near being able to mass produce spatial compression devices like a Pokéball. However, several organizations are researching the possibility of bending space. Most of the research in this area is being done in an attempt to bypass the speed of light barrier rather than create a storage system, but it's still there (for those interested, look up the Alcumbiere drive). If it works, then it's conceivable that the technology could be expanded to handheld storage.

Sadly, creating even the tiniest disruption in space requires absurd amounts of energy using our modern technology. While it's been done in laboratory settings, the disruptions have been incredibly minuscule. That doesn't rule out the possibility, it simply means any practical implementation will take several decades at least.

I also wonder how would the ball choose what to capture, does it know the difference between say a human, an animal, or a plant. I caught a tree. Maybe it would have space limitations what if you caught half of something.

It would be cool if Pokeballs were real but it would take quite a while to make one. Also consider the abuse of these Pokeballs. They could be used to capture humans and or capture animals. This will lead into a lot of trouble so I think its best to not make a Pokéball.

I feel like, as science develops, eventually it will be a fun side project for someone. I don't think it will actually physically capture anything but it might be able to cast a hologram. And, I think that's where Pokémon will be headed for the future. Holograms of your favorite Pokémon and hyper realistic battling would be super cool.

Developing a real Pokéball is, like so many other "developments" in fictional media franchises, a virtual impossibility, even with today's science and technology. It's just like trying to recreate dinosaurs for an amusement park on some remote tropical island.

I can't imagine trapping people or animals (though very similar to Pokémon).
Say that they do invent it, and we go catching things
Then after catching them... What do we do?

In my opinion, not such a great idea.

And besides, at the point current technology is, it's impossible anyway. If this is ever going to happen, it's not going to happen for a while.
