Postbit Changes Coming to Valcadia

When designing Valcadia, we spent a lot of time researching ways to make sure Valcadia was our best theme yet. This meant a lot of research into how certain parts of the site should be changed, to help streamline how new and old users browse the site.

We're still actively designing and developing Valcadia, which includes the child themes Palette Town, Lake Valor & Krabby's Beach (currently all unreleased, but soon). This means we're still keen on making important changes as time goes by and we learn even more.

This is the next step in our design changes - changes to the main postbit that usually contains all of your info to the left of your posts.

After a lot of thought, we came to the conclusion that in many cases the postbit to the left of posts was distracting, took up more screen space than necessary and usually was quite empty and blank, if the user was creating a longer post.



You can see an example of that here. Not only is the postbit completely blank, but it's distracting. For a lot of us, we're used to seeing this, but ultimately someone who is newer to forums might struggle to understand why such a long block needs to push the actual post content to the side when the post is the main attraction.



And that's the philosophy behind our upcoming changes. The CONTENT of the post is by far more important than the postbit. We are a forum after all, so what people are saying is vitally important and should have the main focus, it shouldn't be pushed to the side or have the focus taken off it.

Of course, we have no intention of removing the postbit. Your identity around the forums is important too, so we've decided it'd be best to highlight this above the post itself. That way, it's not pushing your content to the side, not distracting and it still highlights who you are as a member of our community.

Like with any change, it can be difficult to get used to. We feel good about this change and we're sure you guys will love it yourself in time. Unlike on the current postbit, you can even see your medals!

 

Yeah, I noticed a lot of forums actually adopted this design and I really see why now. Not many have the postbit to the side anymore.

 

This is not currently possible, but something we'd like to do.
