So, I made it to Pallet Town, with my Pokémon in a bit of a rough patch, and needed to find a place to heal. So, I tried the PC in Professor Oak's lab (because that's how you heal in New Bark Town), and instead of healing me, the PC was just opened to an email from Elm. "Hi, Professor Oak! How is your research coming along? I'm...doing fine. I heard that <Player Name> is getting quite a reputation. That's what we hear on the grapevine. I'm delighted to hear that. Elm in New Bark Town 8- )" Aside from the obvious (Bethany's really cheeky, reading mail that's not for her), Professor Elm used a smiley. I don't know why, nor how I feel about it. So what about you? Did you know about this email? Is your impression of Elm changed by hearing about this? Will it change when I get some Gym Badges?
This is the first I ever heard of it, or maybe remember it. Don't know if anything changes later but it's funny that a Professor would use such a lame smiley 8-) 8-)
Can't say I have seen it, though it sounds like a silly cheesy easter egg. I didn't play HSSS sadly, out of my budget, but from the anime it seems like something he would do!
