Protagonists You Despise

I'll just put out one that gets thrown out a lot for a good reason- Shiroe from Log Horizon. God I hate the guy. Apparently, just because he was a good strategist, he manages to break the entire game. Another rather funny thing, whenever he was put in a combat situation his stare goes failed. They never really explain anything with him and so to me it makes him a Gary-Stu.

 

Anime Ash. He's bad at everything with Pokémon. He has an attitude that I personally despise, he throw out his Pokémon and start over after trying to defeat someone epic and losing. Personally I think James should be the protagonist, but that's probably just me..

 

Hibiki from Devil Survivor 2 anime. Only because they made him so OP and no one can do anything unless he is there. Also according to my friend who plays the game, he has one of the strongest monsters or something like that and DNAing from the last episode doesn't even work like that in the game. So yeah too OP, he is a gary sue so I do not approve.

 

Anime Iris. If I hear "You're such a little kid!" one more time I'm going to hit the roof. There's nothing I hate more than a hypocritical, self-entitled, special snowflake with NO redeeming qualities. She chastises Ash for not doing things correctly or for working to something the wrong way, and yet she NEVER earned anything in her entire arc. Excadrill and Emolga disobeying her? That's fixed in a few episodes with no work going into it. She needs to evolve her Axew into a Haxorus? Why bother when it learns outrage and giga impact? She doesn't have enough dragon Pokémon on her team? Let's give her a random Dragonite for free! But it won't obey her, except it will.

I absolutely hated Dawn in Diamond and Pearl because she was just a more childish knock-off of May, but Iris was so bad it made me MISS Dawn.

 

I don't watch the Pokémon anime anymore, and @[member="Sofusninja"] already mentioned Ash so that covers that. Though I wouldn't say I despise him as a character. Also I would love to see James as the main protagonist, he's one of my fav characters from it.

Others I DO actually despise are Relena from Gundam Wing because she has no personality and while her creators tried to have her become a strong independent female, she just comes off as stupid, which she is as well as annoying; and Miaka from Fushigi Yugi because she's an unlikable air- headed idiot (thats all you need to know lol).

I'll add to this as I think of more, which I'm sure there are xD

I actually can't say why I hate him, because what he did isn't "family friendly."

To put it short, using women ain't right. Don't lose your head dud-Oops.

 

I agree with Catilena1890, Iris was the point when the anime went downhill. Her "you're such a kid" tic just drove me mad and... I just couldn't stand her. Her only purpose was to scold Ash whenever he f***ed up, and that was a lot.

@[member='A Wild Morgan Freeman'] If you hated Shiroe, then don't watch No Game No Life. Sora and Shiro's strategies don't make any sense no matter how you look at it. At least Shiroe explains his strategy in a way that doesn't make you go WTAF and he fails every once in a while.

 

Not a character that I necessarily hate or despise, but I thought that Keroro Gunso/Sgt. Frog's character, Natsumi, just needed to relax a little. She's fine otherwise, but her hatred of the Keronians is a little obnoxious; she has a right to be suspicious of them since they're trying to take over the planet, but it's hard to sympathize with her when she beats up poor Keroro and co. for little to no reason at all... which is often. Not only that, but she also has a couple of general Mary Sue traits on her, too.

Pokémon-wise, I pretty much agree with all of the other mentions of Ash Ketchum; makes a lot of rookie mistakes, a little questionable as a trainer sometimes, and covered in a lot of plot armor, story-wise.

 

I'm just going to go out and say I really dislike Kirito from SAO. Sure, in the first series he's all for Asuna, until the second series comes along (which I actually kind of like better then the first) and he barely pays attention to her. I never see any more connection between them; he just let his harem take over I guess. Idk, he's just not my favorite character in anime and I do not find him as a good protagonist. That is my two cents.
