    (Sorry if a topic about this has been posted before, I can't see that on my phone)
    Today, it's Purple Friday (at least, it is in the Netherlands). On this day, everyone is asked to wear purple to promote equality between homosexuals, transgenders, biseksuals, straight people and everyone with a sexual interest I didn't sum up.
    Do you also have a special day like this or do you also hold Purple Friday? Are you wearing purple right now?

    At my school, posters of the event have been hung all across school. One of our English teachers is open about her sexual interest (she's lesbian) and she always promotes Purple Friday. On the previous two Purple Fridays, she handed out special purple bracelets to promote the event. I think she's gonna do that again this year. And me? Well, I'm wearing the only purple t-shirt I have (purple isn't a very common color for clothing after all), so I get my share in this event too.

    As an American I thought this was a different type of black Friday. Lol whoops.

    Anyway, I've actually never heard of purple day. I know we have a gay pride day, but it's not quite an official holiday. Though it's celebrated like one. Why purple?

    Heeey, our school is doing the Purple Friday thing too! Homosexuality is generally accepted at our school, so no one really cares about Purple Friday because of that. There's posters and stuff, but no one goes out of their way to wear purple clothes or anything. At my sis' school they were handing out bracelets too and she already got one yesterday. They're purple with the phrase "Gay is okay" on them. I can see Purple Friday being important and I think it's great there's a day like this, but since it already basically tolerated at our school it's redundant here. I don't even have any purple clothes myself ;;

    Purple is a symbolic color for homosexuality and one of the representative colors for the LGBT+. Americans :sweat:

    Purple Friday is not a thing here, I don't think we have a color anything day here and if we don't is barely/not promoted.

    I haven't heard about this, but maybe it's because I live in a mostly conservative-ish area.

    Huh. Imagine that. Happy coincidence, I guess. It seems like a pretty good idea, showing a visual representation of who is adapting with society and who is, well, not. I don't have many purple clothes, and I didn't see many people wearing purple today, but I totally would have worn my purple tie, dress shirt, or tartan-like shirt today if I knew in advance.

    Apparently our school hung out the gay flag today instead of the normal one with the school logo, I honestly didn't even notice. They did that at my sis' school too. Aside from that and an article on our school website, I didn't notice anything different today. I guess it really is seen as redundant here...

    Status update: Nearly no one was wearing purple at my school. Kinda funny to see, especially since the posters were hung all around school a couple of weeks ago. I heard a lot of people say something about not having purple clothes, so I guess it can be explained in some situations.
