    yes absolutely the sheer amount of planets in the universe with many different conditions means that even if carbon-based life is the only possible kind of life it's almost guaranteed that at least one other planet has the conditions necessary to form alien life. intelligent life that can communicate with us? probably not. life at the VERY LEAST? yes absolutely
