Did anyone else get their Mew through the cerulean bridge glitch?? :3

I remember how awesome I felt and happy when it worked. I could finally complete my Pokédex! *0*

Is that the one in Yellow where you use Fly as soon as a certain trainer sees you, which messes with the data and makes Mew appear as the next Pokémon you encounter? I've never used it but I remember reading about a Mew glitch that worked like that.

Yes Doima that's the one. It's weird how it works but it does in fact work. I really don't get how though.

I believe it's something to do with how the first gen games stored and used data. Mew's info is in the game but stored in a different spot, and usually once a trainer sees you it's time for a battle with specific trainer Pokémon. Where you fly away as soon as he sees you though, it never takes place, so the next time you go for a random encounter, it doesn't draw from the normal encounter Pokémon data, but from data stored "elsewhere", which turns out to be Mew. I know it's not a very technical description, but that's basically my understanding of how it works.

I guess that makes sense. All I know is the rumor that Mew was behind that truck was a lie xP

Oh man I remember those rumors full force, back in the schoolyard. "Yeah my cousin's friend got Mew that way it's behind that truck man seriously my cousin said so." Internet was barely what it is today and video streaming was non-existent pretty much so basically you had no easy and legit way to verify it.

Oh I read about this a few years ago... I can't fully remember everything because I didn't understand all of it. But it has something to do with the game thinking that you're still in a battle because the trainer saw you. You can actually use the glitch to obtain any Pokémon. Whichever Pokémon you run into in the grass next is determined by the coding of the trainer's Pokémon that the game thinks you're in a battle with. And the trainer with a slowpoke is the right coding for you to run into a mew.
At least that's what the internet told me back in middle school; I never actually tried the trick...

Though this glitch was first reported 3 years after my introduction to the games I did indeed use it in all three versions.
I'm not exactly sure how it works but when you fly/teleport away from the first trainer right before they recognize you, it tricks the game into believing it's in a battle. This is why the start menu will stop working until you defeat the second trainer.
Since most variations have you heading in the direction of the trainer you fled as the last step perhaps the game sees this as again an encounter with that trainer or it's somehow trying to finish the first encounter but because you aren't there yet and thus there isn't a trainer to be triggered it had no information to pull up except Mew. Or in some cases it will be a glitch Pokémon such as LM4.
Honestly I don't even know if that made sense but it crossed my mind.

Everything said about that truck is false. The truck does nothing.
I myself actually once several years ago tried a trick pertaining to that truck where you talk to the fisherman who gave you the super rod a bunch of times and eventually to shut you up he gives you the Ultra Rod which fishes up an HM that moves the truck. I did it several times in vein.

Yeah, the truck is a lie... I mean, why should Mew be there, Mew can't drive xD
It's funny how in FireRed and LeafGreen, they actually put a Lava Cookie under that truck :) I love those little hidden extras.

I remember seeing a couple of YouTube videos about this glitch. I think Doima's description is pretty solid about how it occurs. There were other technicalities about using a Pikachu and whatnot but I can't really remember exactly. I haven't played Red, Blue or Yellow but if I manage to get my hands on one of them, I'll give the glitch a try. This kind of anomoly would corrupt your save file or crash your handheld presumably but seeing it occur makes me wonder if GameFreak implemented it themselves.
