So this is a serious topic so I'm hoping you'll be mature about it (I trust you guys).

Do you think racism is still alive today? Have we made any progress over the years?

I feel like it it's still relevant, just people have learned to be more quiet about it.

Well, you kinda can't form opinions about the 2 questions you asked, you can really only state the facts.
Yes, racism still obviously exists. If we're being realistic here, it probably always will. No matter how much someone begs and cries about it, there will always be "that guy".
And yes, we have very obviously made progress over the years. Remember when slavery was a thing? Remember when black people and white people couldn't drink from the same water fountain or use the same bathroom in America? Those were things that actually happened. If you take a good look at the outside world, you won't see that anymore, because it no longer exists. That's a very clear sign that humans (specifically Americans in this situations) have made progress in regards to racism over the year.

Oh man, racism is alive and well. Many people throw out racist slurs like nothing. We have definitely made more progress over the years, but then there are so many ways racism is taken. There is cultural appropriation, stereotypes, making fun of someone for a more traditional appearance, and whole boat load of things. Racism is such a broad term and is taken in so many different ways.
Minorities like to place the blame on Caucasians for the racism in the world, but that's sort of hypocritical isn't it? By saying all white people are the source of racism, doesn't that make you a racist as well?
The whole issue is a sticky mess. It's very easy to get tangled in it.

In addition to the above points (which cover mostly everything), I'd like to point out that people have become much more jovial about racism in general. Comedians sometimes incorporate a healthy amount of it into their jokes, you see it on comedic shows, and so on. I think this is a good thing, for the most part. Racism used to be such a serious topic that would get people riled up in seconds, leading to serious problems that need not exist. Nowadays, with it being a much more light-hearted topic than it once was, problems tend to be less serious. Where you could get into a fight for mentioning a stereotype can now be sorted over a hearty laugh. This leads to people less people being racist about the wrong things, if you can understand what I'm trying to say here.

That said, of course, there are people who take the whole, "it's just a joke man" type of racism too far and sort of leap beyong the line, rather than crossing it. Like @[member="Sanctuary"] so eloquently said, there will always be that guy.

Racism still prevails but less than earlier times. We have improved the condition but as people said there will be people who will discriminate people on the basis of race. It cant be remived from society but can be make it so less that we can say its almost negligible.

Racism still exist and it will always be horrible. Someone found out that I was Mexican and called me "Illegal" When I was literally born here in the U.S.A. But Yes It's still alive and we did make progress on calming it down BUT it seem to Awake from it's Long Sleep ever since Donald Trump came into Campaign. It's sad that we can't always change the Opinion on who ever is Racist. They can be quiet but deep down they have it and it's awful. It will always be Alive.

I think Racism is a really bad issue that should not exist. Why make fun off or inappropriate comments about someone because of their race? Sure, people come from different countries, but we all come from the same world. There has been a comment that said "Middle Eastern people are terrorists", and I feel offended at that because I mean no harm to people and I am Lebanese. There are also people who say racist words casually, just like how some people casually swear. I think it's not acceptable and we should all come together as one nation and not discriminate against each other.

That's not to say that we didn't improve, because as it was mentioned before, in olden day America, African people were being taken into America and being sold as slaves. I really am glad for that improvement, but hopefully the world looks up at space were no country borders are seen and we come together as one.

Anything short of totally eliminating individual thought processes will not succeed in eliminating racism, it will always be there. Of course, it isn't the problem that it used to be, especially in first-world countries such as the U.S., but it is still there, and there are people that suffer from it as a result. I'm going to be just straight up here, no beating around the bush: racism is disgusting. Seriously, just because somebody looks different than doesn't make them automatically inferior. One of my ex-friends is racist, and pretty much what I told him was to treat all people equally, and it's not a problem, but his argument was, "They don't qualify as people." I get it, but I just don't get it. (If that makes any sense, lol)

Yeah, racism is definitely still alive and well. Everyone also has a different opinion on what's racist and what isn't, which leads to even more controversial discussions. Some people don't see what happened to Mike Brown in 2014 (which started the #blacklivesmatter movement) as an racially charged event. Some don't see white people saying the n word as racist. Personally, I think both of these are clearly fueled by hatred, but it's only my viewpoint.

As it's been mentioned, I believe racism will always be around. If eradicating slavery and segregation didn't get rid of it, nothing truly will. And it's the same as any sort of prejudice, whether it be sexism, homophobia, transphobia or anything else, racism will still be around.

I also definitely think it's possible for people of color to be racist, despite what some people seem to think. For those who don't know, some believe that if you aren't white, you can't be racist. The reasoning behind this is that, because people of color were never "on top" (that position being taken by white people) that they're not able to be racist, because racism is based on systemic oppression (essentially saying the society we live in sets people of color up to fail.) And while I can get that perspective, it's...frankly, incredibly ignorant. It's not possible to be racist to white people, considering white people have never truly faced oppression for the color of their skin, but it's CERTAINLY possible for a black person to be racist to a brown person, etc. They may not be able to ACT on that racism, (send them to bad schools, force them into ghettos, kill them in the fucking back of police vans...) but anyone can feel hatred towards another person for darker pigment in their skin.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on racism. Agree or not, whatever.

While I agree with most of what's already been said, I do disagree on one point. I think that eventually a time will come when racism is gone. I don't think it will be any time soon, and I don't expect it to happen even within my lifetime. With the popularity of the internet constantly rising, we identify people by physical features less and less. Each generation has already been a bit more tolerant than the last, and with the internet I think the generational change will be greatly accelerated. I think that eventually the day will come when society sees judgements based on race to be about as rational as witch hunting.
