The games always make some awesome connections to the real world that a lot of people don't realize! For that, I applaud the producers! You really have to stop and think about how real Pokémon is. For example, gender differences are based on the idea of sexual dimorphism, which is when the male and female of a species have differences, whether they be apparent or hard to spot. So Pokémon with tusks, for example, always have shorter tusks in the female form.

    Anyways -
What other real-world to Pokémon connections have you noticed in the game? I'm curious as to what else implemented by the game is accurate.

Another thing I noticed is about the abilities Overgrow, Torrent, Blaze, and Swarm. They up the power of all moves of their corresponding Typings when the Pokémon is suffering, which connects to how we get adrenaline boosts when we are put in life threatening or scary situations.

Seviper and Zangoose are connected to the real world relationship between snakes and mongooses. They are natural enemies in real life, and the mongoose is immune to most snake venom. Zangoose has an ability making it immune to poison, which is a reflection of this.

Also in a completely different kind of real-world connection, we have Delibird. Here is the Pokédex entry from Ruby and Sapphire:

"Delibird carries its food bundled up in its tail. There once was a famous explorer who managed to reach the peak of Mt. Everest thanks to one of these Pokémon sharing its food."

So, apparently, Delibird actually exists. Yep..

With the new Pokémon Pyroar they're finally portraying the fact that female lions don't have manes. They did give the female Pyroar that hair thing, kind of like Pidgeott, but it's completely different from that big mane the male has. Luxray did do something in the right direction by making the female's mane slightly shorter, but it wasn't nearly as obvious as with Pyroar, or real lions for that matter.

According to the short Mewtwo's Origin, a book, and probably a few other things, the fossil that was used to clone Mewtwo was found in South America. Not a Pokémon version of South America, but just South America.

Unfezant's plumage is like most birds as well where males have bright feathers to impress females who have dull feathers for camouflage,

I just remembered a movie with Deoxys where the location is based on British Columbia ^_^ And Lt/ Surge is called "The Lightning American", or something of the sort, in 3rd gen.

Oh and the thing about Mewtwo's origin is actually in Cinnabar island too, I believe in Pokémon Mansion there is a book that mentions a specific South American country.

What's interesting about that Delibird one is thinking about how many people have died trying to climb Mt Everest. Sorry guys. You just didn't look hard enough for the Delibird.
