What do you think of the changes to video games becoming "more real" to real life these days?

For example, you might see this on shooting games a lot; the graphics relate to more real life landscapes than the video games that we used to see on 8 bit, 16 bit, 64 bit, etc, etc. Did the constant improvements of video game realism effect the way you, or perhaps, any other gamer experience gameplay?

Feel free to share any thoughts!

    Time for my unpopular oppinion.

I personaly detest realism in game graphics. Maybe it's the retro gamer in me, but I jusr can't stand realistic graphics. Pokémon is a prime example. I refused to play X/Y because the graphics changed too much. Pheonix Wright, another prime example. The 3D character models just took so much away from the games. When it was still 2d, the expressions looked creative an unique. Now, there just so... Bleh.

I'm not here or there on realistic graphics, but it is cool to look at a game and notice how real things look. I suppose they're a very nice touch on an already good game, but unless the graphics are absolutely horrible, they don't make a game for me.

Realistic games terrify me to death. Not for content's sake, but of how actually realistic it is. It takes the fantasy part of the games to a level that really doesn't give you as much creativity on what you see. It also honestly scares that because of how realistic it looks, I feel like someday, we'll be playing a video game and no longer be able to differentiate it from reality.

Video games are becoming way, way too real. And when you look back, video games went form simple 8-bits to mass projects like these.
Now, graphics are also a thing when we look into games, and the more "real" it is, the more better it is. I don't care about graphics all that much anymore, but nowadays, there are games, where everything's the graphics, and there's no good story anymore. I hope this is just a fad, due to most of their budget going to graphics.

Take a good look at this~

Hoo mama, I love the 'realism' of games. I'm a sucker for incredibly detailed graphics. I can't help but admire them-- Think of all the time && effort was putting to every detail! To every twitch of the brow or bite of the lip. To every strand of hair that blows in the wind or a reflection in water. The movement of water. Sweet jesus, I love it. I just really love detail-- Hell, I'll try to read a label on a can lying on the ground in a game.

But it's not just about how 'realistic' a game looks. One of my favorite series doesn't look realistic, but the use of colors and map design is incredible. The clarity of the characters' designs take my breath away.

Well, not really. The graphics could look exactly like real life, and that won't necessarily mean I'm impressed. If the game has piss poor gameplay, I'll be turned off from it. Anyone remember the Atari Jaguar? How about the Virtual Boy?

I don't mind realistic games, I just don't play them because of how performance intensive they can be. I think realism in games is cool, as long as it doesn't come into non-realistic universes. For example, In The Sims or Call Of Duty? Go ahead! Just keep realism out of Legend of Zelda and Mario. Fantasy worlds should be cartoony at least!

Sometimes it can be amazing, but other times it just feels wrong. I do like games to have their own sort of style rather than be too close to real life. Most people use video games to escape from real life. So why would escape to a game that looks and feels just like what you're trying to escape from?

Still though, I'll admit what they can do is very impressive, I love GTA's graphics now days.

I like the graphics, I admit, but I don't like how realistic it is. It honestly scares me that some of these games could be close to a future possibility.

It really depends on the game in my opinion. I think that heavy fantasy games should stay in cartoon form. I'd throw a fit if Mario or Hatsune Miku started looking like an actual human.

    OH WAIT
