Hello all, and welcome to this RP, Reclaiming Turf. It'll be based on the game Splatoon, and involves myself and [member='Cira'].

Here are our characters (with pictures to come soon)

Name(s): Corrin del Mar, Cor/Corry, Newbie, "Mister"
    Age: 16
    Race: Inkling, male
Appearance: Using the regular male base, Corrin is always turquoise in Inkopolis. He wears Retro Specs, a Black Polo and Red Hi-Horses. He has a fair skin tone and turquoise eyes. He starts of with a Splattershot Jr., but soon gains a proficiency for Splat Rollers.
Relations: A small group of direct family members he barely keeps in touch with to the point where he doesn't recognise their faces or voices.
Backstory: Corrin suffers from haphephobia, the fear of touching or being touched by others. After living by himself for a good 3 years, he decided to give Turf Wars a try, as some sort of therapy for his fear.

    Name(s): Reena Riulao; Rift/Rifty
    Age: 17
    Race: Inkling, female
Appearance: She normally has her ink crimson, and generally wears Studio Headphones, the Green Striped LS, and a pair of Blue Moto-Boots. She has tanned skin and red eyes, and her bangs are slightly curled.
Relations: She has a father and a little sister that's far too young to play Turf Wars, but other than that, she has a friend called Mirage who she squads with occasionally.
    Backstory: N/A

    Name(s): Raven Riulao; Bird/Birdy, Chick, Bird-brain
    Age: 10
    Race: Inkling, female
Appearance: She's a mainly white inkling with red at the tips of her hands, feet and "hair", along with green eyes and shorts.
Relations: Her father and her turf-warrior older sister Reena.
    Backstory: N/A

    Name(s): Mirage Sylphon; Transparent, Annoying
    Age: 16
    Race: Inkling, female
Appearance: She's a very pale squid with dull grey eyes and turquoise ink, and wears the Ika Musume/Squid Girl hat, the Octo Tee and Snowy Down Boots.
Relations: She's in a C+ ranked squad as a Splat Charger, and as such has three squadmates: David, Magabelle and Steel-Squid (nobody actually knows his name), along with her squadless friend Reena and her family, and her mother.
    Backstory: N/A

Reena walked out of Inkopolis Tower, ready to head home for the night. Mirage had left earlier, since her squad had a tournament match tomorrow, and Reena had been playing Turf for about...half an hour after that? She wasn't sure. Still...it's frustratingly difficult to get a full lobby of turf warriors at this time, so she'd though it'd be best if she went home.

She walked down the ramp, looking around--there weren't many squids hanging around the plaza right now. Figures, it was fairly late. But...there was one person she could see; a boy, sleeping on the bench on the other side of the plaza. What on earth is he doing?

She stared at the boy, walking in his direction. She couldn't help but wonder why he was sleeping there, instead of at home, especially at this time. He should've gone home by now, but there he was. On the bench. Snoozing.

Reena stopped in front of the bench. "Hey, you alright?"

Corrin gingerly opened his eyes at the sound of the voice. It didn't occur to him straight away, but when he did realise it was another person talking to him, his heartbeat starting racing faster than any inkling in their squid form to ever exist.

"I-I'm f-f-fine..." he muttered, unconsciously backing away from the female inkling. She was standing close to him, too close to him, and he didn't want a repeat of what had happened to him earlier.

"You..." Reena paused, and then shook her head. "Why were you sleeping out here then?" Reena asked the boy. He seems...nervous, she thought, scared, even. "Shouldn't you be at home?"

Who was this girl, and why was she asking so many questions? Corrin didn't have time for her, nor the guts to speak to her.

"It's nothing, I guess I was just... tired, after doing Turf Wars today." Corrin explained, taking a moment to pause and think of a believable excuse for why he was tired.

"But I appreciate you waking me up, thanks." He said with a polite bow, before practically leaping off of the bench and running home through the darkness, his Red Hi-Horses making their trademark squeaky-sneaker sound. ((Like how when you run in a gym and skid your shoes on purpose, that sound))

~ ((timeskip, about ten minutes later))

By time Corrin reached his apartment, it was ink-black outside. He fished his pocket for his keys, and used them to unlock the door, shutting it behind him. He breathed a sigh of relief as he flipped on the light switch, making his way to the only piece of furniture in the room; his bed. Corrin didn't have a job, and he had just started Turf Wars that same day, so he had very little money. Luckily, his parents were paying the rent on his apartment, and he was allowed to take his bed with him when he moved out. Corrin flopped onto the bed, lazily covering his eyes with his hands to block out the light.

"Mmph, why did they have to touch me? If they hadn't, I probably wouldn't have fallen asleep on that bench..."

    ~ ((flashback, earlier that day))

It was Corrin's fist Turf War. After taking a few practice lessons at Ammo Knights, and getting an astounding review from Sheldon, he headed over to the big doors that led to the lobby. There, he was chucked into a room with 3 other Inklings, all who looked very confident with their abilities.

"Hey, this must be our new team mate after that other guy dropped out! What's your name?" one of them asked.

"Corrin..." Corrin muttered back. "This is my first time... Doing a Turf War."

"Oh, so you're a Newbie, huh?" another Inkling, a female, asked. "Well, it's pretty simple. You just shoot your gun at the ground to cover it with ink, and you shoot it at the other team to make them explode ink everywhere!"

    "E-Explode?!" Corrin stammered.

"Relax newbie, it's just a defense mechanism; we don't really explode. As soon as you've been hit, you'll get taken back to the spawn point and you just go again. The matches only last 3 minutes, so try to keep a level head." The first Inkling smiled. Suddenly they were transported onto the stage, and the battle had begun.

It was a long, gruelling 3 minutes, but when it was done, the scores were announced, and Corrin's team had won. Much to everyone's surprise, Corrin scored the most points, getting almost double the next person under him on his team, and he managed to get 20 kills without even being touched. Once the four Inklings had been transported back to the lobby, the others all swarmed around Corrin.

"Wow, you did great out there!" the first one smiled.

"Yeah, you were so good! You could have beaten both teams on your own, I reckon!" the female one said, nodding in approval.

"Dude, that was awesome! High five!" the third one cheered, holding out his hand. Corrin started at it, his eyes wide. He was holding out his hand to him. And he expected Corrin to touch it. This sent him into a panic, his breaths short and sharp.

"Hey kid, relax. Is there something wrong?" the first Inkling asked.

"I think he needs some fresh air." The female Inkling suggested, putting her hand around his shoulder. That was when Corrin lost the plot. He struggled free from her friendly, but to him tortuous, grip, and backed up against the wall. They walked closer to him, their hands outstretched in aid, but to him they were taunts, horrible jokes as if they were making fun of him. It wasn't Corrin's fault he had haphephobia, and he had it bad. As the three Inklings got closer, he began to pound on the door, hoping it would open. Just as the tips of their fingers ghosted his back, the door slid open and Corrin bolted. He didn't know where to go, but everywhere he looked there were other Inklings, and they all stared back at him like the freak he was. Eventually he found solace in a public toilet, and he hid in there until he felt like everyone who had seen him had left. He slowly walked out and decided to sit on one of the nearby benches to calm down, which is where he eventually fell asleep.

~ ((flashforward, back to the present))

"I can't believe I fell asleep in public... And for some reason, I'm still so tired..." he mumbled out loud, shuffling to the door of his apartment to turn off the light, before shuffling back over to his bed. Once again, he flopped onto it, removing his glasses and putting them on the floor under the bed, before his eyelids became droopy and he fell asleep.

Reena watched as the boy ran away, confused. What? Why was he so quick to go home?

She pondered on it a moment more, and then shrugged. I should get home too. With that, she started the long trek to her house.

    ~ ((timeskip of...25-30 minutes later?))

Reena closed the door behind her, seeing that the house was pitch dark. Raven must be asleep, Reena thought, and then sighed. And Dad must be out.

She walked down the hallway, not bothering to take off her boots at the door. She preferred to keep all her turf clothes in her own room, which included headgears and shoes--that tended to irritate her father, but... she didn't want to lose anything.

She stopped at the end of the hallway, which had two doors: on the right, one that led to her sister's room, and on the left, one that led to hers. She quietly turned the knob on her door, making sure not to wake her little sister, and slipped through, closing the door lightly. Reena then took off her boots, sitting them on her shoe-shelf, and unequipped and placed her headphones on the top of her dresser. She, then, walked over her bed which stood opposite her dresser, got inside, and turned off the light.

Corrin woke up the next morning, not feeling any better than he had the day before. He blindly searched for his glasses under the bed, put them on and, with a few blinks, was able to see where he was going. Since he didn't have anything to do in his house, he decided he'd go back to Inkopolis, so he left without delay.

    ~ ((timeskip, 10 minutes))

Even though it was early in the morning, the plaza was bustling with Inklings. Callie and Marie were streamed on the big screen for Inkopolis News, and there was a constant stream of Inklings going into the Lobby, but hardly any coming out. Corrin sighed, feeling very alienated, and proceeded to sit on the smae bench he had fallen asleep on yesterday. Sitting down brought back memories off the events of the day previous.

"I wish I could see that Inkling again, and thank her for waking me up. I could have been mugged, or worse... But, what did she look like?"

Corrin fished through his memories to try and find a clear picture of the girl, but he didn't tend to get close enough to people to remember specific details about them. Oddly, he cold clearly picture this Inkling.

"Her hair was darker than mine, maybe a dark orange, red or brown, and she wore... headphones, and boots." Corrin listed out loud. He smiled proudly, but on the inside.

"Hey, I remembered that girl! Maybe I am getting better..."

Reena wrenched her face from the pillow, still sluggish from last night. I need to go to bed at more reasonable times, she grumbled internally, sitting up on her bed and rubbing her eyes.

Sliding off the bed, she walked to the dresser and swiped her headphones, placing them around her neck, and then pulled the moto-boots off the shelf and slipped them onto her feet. With a glance back at her room to check if she forgot anything, she opened the door and passed into her sister's. Raven was under the covers, reading a book with a little lamp. She must've not noticed it was morning...

"Were you reading all night, Raven?" Reena caught the attention of her sister, who slammed the book shut and stared at Reena.

    "U-uh, yes?" the white-and-red inkling stammered, "I-I mean, no! No I wasn't."

"You know you can't lie to me," Reena smiled, to which Raven crossed her arms.

"S-sorry," Raven muttered, putting her book on her bedside table.

"What were you reading?" Reena walked over to her sister, looking at the book she had just placed down.

"Past," the inkling replied, "it's about an inkling who goes back in time and meets the dominant species of the past!"

Reena picked up the book and flipped it over, reading the blurb on the back, "Sounds interesting."

"Anyway, I need to get to Inkopolis, since a tournament is happening today and I need to go see it," Reena placed the book back down on the bedside table, and started walking out of the room, "See ya."

"Wait!" Raven called out, "Can I come with you?"

"But you can just watch it on TV," Reena stated.

"Yeah, but I've never seen a turf war outside of the TV!" Raven whined, "I want to see one with my own eyes!"

    Reena nodded. "Alright then."

Raven cheered happily, following Reena into the kitchen. Reena grabbed three kelp bread buns: one and a half for Raven, and one and a half for herself. She then walked out of the kitchen and the door, Raven following closely behind.

~ ((timeskip 25 mins from before previous post's timeskip, which makes it about a 15 minute skip from the previous post))

Reena and Raven entered Inkopolis plaza, Raven looking around excitedly while Reena looked specifically for Mirage. She might still be around here, she thought, looking at every turquoise colored inkling she could find. But, when she couldn't find Mirage, she instead laid her eyes on the inkling from yesterday evening...

What? Why did I notice him? Reena stared at him for a few more moments, but then Raven poked her. "Can I go look at the shops?"

"Not right now," Reena replied, walking to the side of the plaza opposite the tower, "We want to be ready for when my friend gets here."

When she and her sister got to the wall, Reena leaned on it and looked at the boy for a few seconds, and then started keeping an eye on her sister and out for Mirage.

Corrin had been sitting on that bench for what felt like forever, so long that he began to zone out.

"Hey mister! Why are you lookin' at me like that?" a voice called, snapping him back to reality. It was a young Inkling, and she looked very familiar. Her face was quite close to Corrin's but that didn't bother him. He was OK with children being close to him, since he figured they wouldn't understand.

"I, uh, zoned out. Sorry about that." Corrin said, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.

"Heh, you're funny mister! Hey, you should meet my sister!" she smiled, before turning around and cupping her hands around her mouth.

"Reena! Come look at this funny boy!" she called out.

"Hey kid, don't call me "funny". I really don't want to attract-" Corrin stopped when he saw an Inkling in the crowd, as if it parted just for him. Headphones, boots and red hair, just like the girl's who stood in front of her.

"Is this the Inkling from last night?" he wondered.

Reena glanced over to where Raven was, and saw exactly who she was talking about. The boy from last night. It almost seems as if today wanted them to encounter each other. So, she walked over to them.

"Raven, you shouldn't be calling people "funny". It's rude," Reena patted her little sister on the head, who just crossed her arms and pouted. Then, Reena looked at the boy.

"Uh...hey," she went and sat down on the bench. Raven went over to where Reena was and sat on the opposite side.

She's sitting next to me, and quite close. So why am I not afraid?

"Uh, hi. I was, um, looking for you. After last night, I wanted to thank you for, y'know, waking me up and stuff. Can I take you out for something to eat? You can have anything you want, your sister too. I feel like... there's something I've been meaning to tell someone, and you're that someone..." Corrin explained, his voice getting slightly quieter at the end as the fear started to kick in.

"Mm...no, it's okay, me and Raven have some food," Reena replied, to which Raven showed the two and a half buns of kelp bread , "I've also got...what, one and a half hours until a friend comes here? She's bringing tickets for the tournament."

Reena looked over at the big monitor, where they broadcasted various ads. "Thanks for the offer though."

Corrin frowned. He was really hoping that he'd be able to tell this girl about himself. Maybe he still had a chance.

"You said you've still got an hour and a half, right? Come on, I really want to tell you something, in private." He pleaded, before having a little nerdspasm.

"I mean, we won't be in private, since we'll still be in public, and your sister will be with us, but still..." he sighed, looking away with his left arm on his right bicep. This was his signature worried pose.

Reena looked at the boy and raised an eyebrow. What could be so important? "...sure. I'll just have to tell my friend where we're going, because she likes to go everywhere early."

"Just say, uh Squid Cafe, under the Battle Dojo. On days like this it's usually quiet. I'll go cop us a few seats." Corrin said, breathing a small sigh of relief as he walked off.

"Good, she's on board. But how's she going to react when I tell her? Better yet, how am I going to react? I've never told anyone before, except father and mother, and that was through yelling and screaming... No, I'm going to be OK. I just need to stay calm and tell her."

Reena followed behind the boy, grabbing Raven's hand so that she stayed close. She pulled out her phone and texted Mirage the words "change of plans, meet me at that cafe under the dojo. also, bring two tickets"., slipping her phone back into her pocket after.

Once in the cafe, the 3 Inklings sat at table. Corrin sat across from Reena, and Raven sat next to her, colouring a picture with a set of pencils and paper that a waitress had kindly given her.

"OK, here goes. The reason why you found me on the bench yesterday, that's what I want to tell you. I'm... haphephobic. I don't know why, I just am, and I don't remember I time where I wasn't. I've been mulling over this for about 3 years, but yesterday I decided to try out a Turf War, as some sort of therapy. I did enter a turf war, and I won, big time. I got the most area inked in the whole match, and I get 20 straight KOs without being touched by another person. But after that, my team tried to congratulate me. Now, after thinking about it, I realise that their high-fives and pats on the back were just kind gestures, but..." he paused, feeling guilty for the way he had treated the Inklings he had met the day before.

"Anyway, after they touched me, I began freaking out, as haphephobics do, and they were only trying to help, but I was already gone by that point. I ran out of the lobby and to that bench where you found me, and I guess I just cried until I stopped, and then fell asleep. It's a wonder nobody else came to wake me up..." he finished, quietly sighing with relief. It was nice to finally tell somebody; he felt like a huge weigh had been lifted from his shoulders.

Reena blinked at the boy. Haphephobia... that's the fear of another's touch... why would he tell me? Maybe he thought I deserved an explanation? "Well, I'm glad I was there to wake you up, then." She smiled.

Corrin's heart skipped a beat. This was the first time he had seen Reena smile. It suited her.

"The weirdest part is, when you're around I feel... different. Last night I was scared when you came so close to me, but before, when you plonked yourself right next to me, I didn't feel scared at all. I've never let anyone sit that close to me before... I don't even understand myself anymore, but what I think I'm trying to ask is... will you be my friend?"

Reena didn't have a second thought about her answer. "Yes."

"Say..." Reena looked over at the door, "There's this tournament going on in a few hours, and as I mentioned before, a friend is getting me and my sister tickets. Do you want to come, too?"
