Just for starters, I don't use any recording devices but I'm curious about what other people use to record their lives/games and let random or not so random people see it.

So what type of device do you use? Why do you use it? Do you enjoy recording things in general or only certain things?

As you know, I just use my phone to record. My quality is very poor as you have seen. But at least the gameplay I post is probably either clean or stylish.

I don’t really have any fancy equipment and my laptop sucks at recording.

I use my phone 90% of the time, and it looks ugly, despite the fact that I literally record using 4K graphics. As for gameplays, I don’t record them. Even if I did, I’d use a screen recorder.

I record my Wii U gameplay with a Diamond capture card that has seen better days. It fell on our concrete floor so it displays in b&w on the tv. Still records in color though. I have some other issues with it though, as you can probably see on my Youtube channel in my sig.

I want to get an Elgato so I can do better recordings and LP Switch Games, but I'm making do with this since I got it from a friend. For anything other than my LPs, I use the built-in capture software on my Switch, like in my BotW compilation and Tips and Tricks videos. I of course prefer to record for LPs, and I can't do streams where I live.

Any time I record myself for any voice project, I use my phone. It's not ideal, because my phone is very sensitive to plosives. You know how some microphones really pick up a spike of noise volume any time you make a P sound due to the outward air that comes with that phoneme? It's bad on my phone, but I have a way around it: I take a clean jogging sock and put m phone into it mic-side-deep. Every recording I've ever posted here for any reason was like that, and I have to trim out 15 seconds of adjusting the sock and boost the volume to make it remotely palatable to the ear. It gets annoying when I want to record multiple takes, because I have to take off the sock to get into playback or plug the phone to my computer. If I'm just recording things I want to remember for later, I don't bother with all that and just talk into my phone. I don't care if I sound like garbage for myself.

I even just use my phone for the very little video recording I do. I sometimes record workout sessions so I can be sure I have good posture: am I doing this plank or push-up straight, does my spine seem healthy while doing sit-ups, am I wobbling when I do chin-ups. I just find a place to prop it up, walk into view, and do my thing.

I have no idea what software I would use for streaming, though. I've been told I'd make an interesting gaming live-streamer, but I don't have the internet for it so I'm simply not bothering with that question just yet.

I use my ipad for recording most of the time, like if it’s a game or a clip from a tv show. I never use my actual Nikon fancy camera for video. I’d love to have a capture card for my 2DS but I know they’re really expensive :(
