So I'm tempted to go back into RU and UU after one failed try at RU and the fact I had to retire my XY UU team, knowing it'd get wrecked worse than David Carr when he played for the Houston Texans.

The thing is I'm tempted to go with a Trick Room team for RU at first, a theme I am absolute crap with.
My main issues is that I cannot time placing trick room without getting countered or wrecked, nor has my teams been able to synergize well with Trick Room.
Anyone here got any advice on how to properly get a TR team to work well competitively?

I like to recommend using some Pokémon with normal/high Speed, in this case running Miensha is a good option. Obviously you won't be sending it when you have TR setted. 0IV in the rest of the team, if you don't know what I am talking you should talk with me in the Competitive Tutoring Room in LV Showdown. This is an offensive Trick Room variant, with only a Wall that is Cresselia. You are obviously weak against Earthquake spamm, using Mienshao to kill Excadrill is very nice with this team, because after this you have an open field and setting Trick Room will be a day in the garden.

Here I have another one that I tested. In my opinion is better and have lesser problems than the last one. More sinergy and it is easer to set the Trick Room. You can use the first to learn how to set Trick room in difficult situations. But if you want the safe way I highly recommend you this one:

    Cofagrigus @ Leftovers
    Ability: Mummy
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
    Relaxed Nature
    IVs: 0 Spd
    - Trick Room
    - Calm Mind
    - Will-O-Wisp
    - Shadow Ball

    Xatu @ Focus Sash
    Ability: Magic Bounce
    EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
    Sassy Nature
    IVs: 0 Spd
    - Trick Room
    - U-turn
    - Light Screen
    - Roost

    Rampardos @ Life Orb
    Ability: Mold Breaker
    EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
    Adamant Nature
    IVs: 0 Spd
    - Head Smash
    - Crunch
    - Iron Head
    - Earthquake

    Ampharos @ Ampharosite
    Ability: Static
    Shiny: Yes
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
    Quiet Nature
    IVs: 0 Spd
    - Volt Switch
    - Signal Beam
    - Thunderbolt
    - Dragon Pulse

    Aromatisse (M) @ Leftovers
    Ability: Aroma Veil
    EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
    Sassy Nature
    IVs: 0 Spd
    - Trick Room
    - Moonblast
    - Wish
    - Aromatherapy

    Porygon2 @ Eviolite
    Ability: Download
    EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
    Sassy Nature
    IVs: 0 Spd
    - Trick Room
    - Charge Beam
    - Ice Beam
    - Toxic

The last that I can say, is that you have to find the correct moment to set the Trick Room. if you see your opponent's team you should know when you have to set the TR. Like in al the game, the prediction is the base all the moves. If you know that you enemy will have to switch, there is when you set something, not only TR. Also, if you see a possible counter to your current Pokémon, you are going to set and run, not trying to set up and stay, it is better to lose a TR turn, than lose a TR setter. As I said this is a base on Pokémon, if you need more details you know how to find me. remember that we the Competitive Mentors are here to help :)

    Thanks for some ideas.
Kinda threw up one today in a good... 30 minutes today?
Was kinda weary of the idea of running 3 Trick Room users but that's just me.
I'll see how it works in a few days.

For a trick room team I like putting cresselia as a trick room setter, since its so bluky and can do chip damage like
putting toxic, psychock etc. Aromatisse and cofagrigus are some more of my ideals.
And mawile is good for a trick room team since he/she is fast and can do a lot of damage.

He asked for UU support, and about the Trick Room strategy.

Okay, try it and tell me how it worked. And yeah, having more than 2 Trick Room setters is a very nice option like a Plan A, Plan B and Plan C also it help you with the counters of each one, if you see an incoming counter try with other setter xD. If you have questions I am always in the Competitive Tutoring Room. Or here if you send me a PM.

Cresselia is a very nice setter, have many variants as Mixed Wall, Physicall, Special and you can even make a crazy distribution if you take care about setting Trick Room and give a little Sweep taking some hits :D. (Cresselia was nice in the old VGC, but I wasn't player on that momment xD)
