As I'm sure we all know, we recently lost Etika to presumed suicide. Etika was a YouTuber who was more well known for his over-the-top reactions from his Twitch live streams. A little while ago, Etika had stopped posting videos and streaming, and none of his friends knew of his where abouts. Etika had disappeared from the world. About maybe a week or two ago, Etika's body was found in the water, dead. I know that this seems cringey and disrespectful, but can we all press F?
F I’ve never really watched his videos, but I know a YouTuber who collabs with him. RIP legend. You will be remembered.
F I remember seeing his reactions going around on my social media feeds every once in a while. I also heard about his struggles with mental illness in recent months and I really hope he's at peace somewhere up above us. I also hope in light of his suicide, people start taking influencers' mental health a lot more seriously and watch out for their friends, family, or idols, who could be suffering from something greater and not knowing how or wanting to get help.
I only watched one of his reactions (to Isabelle being in Smash Ultimate) and I laughed my head off. May he rest in peace, F.
F for Etika I was never one of his consistent viewers, but I did enjoy watching a highlight of his from time to time. His excitement brought me excitement many times, and I appreciated his content. Situations like these are sad, and make us think about what we could have done differently. Of course, we can't change the past, but we can impact how we deal with mental health in the present and the future. Although there have been some using his death as click-bait (curse these disrespectful swine), it's been nice to see content creators come together and donate towards good causes to help others who may be in similar situations. I'm no expert at helping those with mental health, but I do try to be a friend to all people who will accept it. This is what I know how to do, and it's what I will continue to do. We each can play a role in the lives of others. On the surface, Etika seemed fine to me for many years, but external appearance can be deceiving (and I am aware of his decline in recent months). Mental health is not always evident, and sometimes there is not much that we can do to help a person. However, I will continue to try my best to help others who may be going through a difficult time. RIP Etika. I hope we can learn from this experience. I send my best to his family, friends, and all those he impacted.
F I didn't really watch his content at all, but news like this are always awful. I hope people who were closer to him are okay.
F I was never able to make it to one of his streams but I watched highlights on Youtube and he had an amazing personality that always made me laugh.
F I don't really like the F to pay respect thing, but I think it's what he would have wanted. I used to watch him for a long time, then dropped off, and when I looked back into him, that was the first time where he did the channel deletion and the subsequent mental downfall. It's sad what happened to him. I don't like how people are searching for people to blame, while Etika probably wouldn't have wanted that. He himself bought into the twitter trolls, he sent away those that wanted to help him. It's honestly a tragedy. I still don't really know how to talk about it. Partially because it still feels unreal. The thing I am going to be sad about most is that he won't be remembered as a constant positive force that managed to brighten up your day, or as a person who could bring you excitement for any game, or even the idiot that comes fresh of the <redacted> block measuring his subway footlong. He will be remembered as the dude, who had a serious mental problem that didn’t get enough help. My deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. Oh, and don't worry about this being cringy for any reason. It's not easy to take stuff like this in, and talking honestly helps.
