Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow are hitting the Nintendo eShop in February of 2016. I'm curious is this will spark an interest in Gen 1 competitive battling, which hasn't been very popular up to this point. Yes, the mechanics of the game are very broken but I still think we could see a rise of Gen 1 competitive, at least for a short time.

Gen 1 has been popular, i find, if fact its quickly rose in popularity within the last 2 years, maybe thats just Smogon though

The charm of Gen 1 I think is the fact that a lot of Pokémon dominate the metagame, its a lot like the VGC 7, there are a select few who provide well-needed roles to make a team, then you just rely on skill and luck, thats the charm I've found from others

I've been playing Gen 1 competitive for a while now. There obviously aren't as many pokes to choose from, but it's nice to be able to wreck shit with some of the classics. Wrap is OP as fuck, though. I don't really think it will gain a lot of people except for maybe a week or two, though, as a lot of the people interested in it are already playing.

I can see this happening. I can even see a couple of tournaments starting up just around Gen 1. I only say this because I think a lot of people are going to be buying this game.

This game might have broken mechanics and a couple of almost unbreakable strategies (*Cough* Wrap Dragonite.) but hey, it's still fun to play. Well at least in my eyes.

Whether this new metagame will be peaceful or chaotic we'll have to see.

Hmmm, I wonder if the VC versions of RBY will have wifi support. There's already a tier for RBY battles on Pokémon Showdown, so if they find a way to implement online battles into the VC games, it's definitely possible. Would be fun, trying to freeze everything >w>
