So, a few of my favourite Pokémon are Steel Types, so I decided to do a monotype steel team in OU. Sadly they banned Aegislash to Ubers, but there are still other viable steel types.

Mawile (Nakano) @ Assault Vest

Ability: Hyper Cutter

EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 SpD

Nature: Jolly

- Ice Punch

- Iron Head

- Play Rough

- Knock Off

Mawile is obviously my mega evolution, designed around being a heavy hitter. I've given Iron Head and Play Rough for STAB, and I've given her Ice Punch to deal with any pesky ground types that happen to be slower than it. I have changed the item to Assualt Vest to give it a chance against special fire types.

Doublade (Kirito) @ Eviolite

Ability: No Guard

EVs: 252 Hp / 252 SpD / 4 Attack

Nature: Careful

- Iron Defense

- Shadow Sneak

- Toxic

- Reflect

So, I ran this guy on my team on a regular OU team and he was actually quite useful. Reflect can help reduce damage from any pesky Earthquake users, and It certainly did work. I had something other than Iron Defense, but I can't remember what it was at the moment (might have been protect). Toxic is for whittling down walls and Shadow Sneak is for quick kills if possible. Also, it's funny when people go "why the hell did you bring Doublade."

Ferrothorn (Vaike) @ Rocky Helmet

Ability: Iron Barbs

EVs: Hp 252 / Def 252 / 4 Atk

Nature: Relaxed

- Spikes

- Stealth Rock

- Gyro Ball

- Leech Seed

Named after the Counter brute in Fire Emblem Awakening, Ferrothorn is designed to hurt physical attackers as much as it possibly can with the combination of Iron Barbs, High defense, Rocky Helmet, and Leech Seed to restore health so Physicals are left punching a spiked metal ball. He is also designed to be my Spikes/Stealth Rock user, and given low speed so that Gyro ball can take out Fairy Types, especially Magic Guard Clefable.

Metagross (Herobrine) @ Metronome

Ability: Clear Body

EVs: Hp 252 / Atk 252 / Spe 4

Nature: Adamant

- Magnet Rise

- Bullet Punch

- Hammer Arm

- Zen Headbutt

My other heavy hitter, Metagross is not a Pokémon I have a lot of experience with. Bullet Punch is for a priority move that should take out any Pokémon that are on low health. Hammer Arm is for dealing with any enemy Steel, Dark or Rock types, especially since the latter can normally learn Earthquake. Magnet Rise is added so that it can get rid of it's major weakness to ground, but with the steel types nerf, it's now weak to both Dark (Hammer) and Ghost types.

Empoleon (Not Elsa) @ Air Balloon

Ability: Torren

EVs: 252 Hp / 252 SpA / 4 Def

Nature: Modest

- Ice Beam

- Flash Cannon

- Hydro Pump

- Rain Dance

Empoleon is designed to nullify any fire types on the enemy party, and the air balloon is designed to troll any earthquake users into missing. Ice Beam is again to quickly take down any Ground or Flying types, and hopefully any Dragons along the way. Flash Cannon is mostly for the STAB bonus. Hydro Pump is to take down Fire and Ground types, and Rain Dance is to rub it into any Sunny Day users, or Fire Types in general.

Heatran (Cooper) @ Air Balloon

Ability: Flash Fire

Evs: 126 Def / 130 Sp. Atk / 252 Sp. Def

Nature: Calm

-Flamethrower

-Earth Power

-Dark Pulse

-Dragon Pulse

While the Pokémon was suggested by thathyena, I decided to change it a bit. Flamethrower for stab and Earth Power for the fire types and possibility of an Empoleon. Dark Pulse because my current weakest link doesn't want to stay alive long enough to use the only ther dark move on my team. Dragon Pulse is for any Dragon Types who happen to get past Empoleon and Mawile. Air Balloon to stop Ground Types, and it sadly cannot learn Magnet Rise.

Okay, so, how does my team look. I'm pretty sure I've covered all the bases of a decent Competitive team, especially for a monotype. There is one other thing that I'm unsure about, whether to put Skarmory as Stealth/Spikes and give it Sandstorm and Whirlwind instead of Ferrothorn.

Here is a replay of a match I did with it. Maybe I should change my Mawile's name to Elsa.

Not a bad mono Steel though the only reason to run Magneton over Magnezone is speed since the latter has improved bulk and power overall. If you are wanting it to be slow than Magnezone is a superior option. Also, the Analytic boost happens when a Pokémon switches out as well so you technically don't even need to be slow to get the extra power. Just bring it against something that Magnezone forces out and then pummel the incoming switch with a Specs + Analytic boosted Volt Switch. Also, if you are running Specs then Charge Beam really shouldn't be used due to it's low base power...

Not much else that I would change about the team other than Ice Beam > Blizzard on Empoleon because of the accuracy and Mawile without Sucker Punch is kinda mehish...I would run max speed on it if I was you just so you can get the beat on some slower Ground types like Donphan. Ice Punch doesn't give a huge amount of coverage though since it will goes up to 150 BP dealing Super Effective damage while a STAB Play Rough deals 135 BP against neutral targets.

Okay, thanks for those suggestions. I'll definitely make a few changes. I only just realised that I put in Magneton instead of Magnezone a few minutes before reading your reply, but should I give it Lagging Tail or Iron Ball, or keep Choice Specs? Also, what should I replace with Charge Beam.

I will definitely change the Empoleon's moveset so it is Ice Beam instead of Blizzard and I'll use Magnezone instead.

So, what should I change for Sucker Punch on Mawile, Ice Punch or Swords Dance?

    Okay, edits are made.

Hey man, nice team, it's good to see an original mono steel team like this. Rain dance empoleon is a great idea, too. A few suggestions, though:
I'd suggest running Heatran over Magnezone for a few reason. The biggest one is flash fire. Right now, Empoleon is a defensive backbone on your team, tanking fire type moves and dodging ground types with air balloon. Because it provides so many key resistances to your team, it's gonna be worn down pretty fast. Heatran's flash fire is invaluable on a steel team like this, because it forces your opponent to stop spamming fire moves so much and be a little more careful. It also has a threatening offensive presence, being a pretty potent special attacker especially with a flash fire boost. Lava plume scares almost any physical attacker by threatening a burn, and you can run earth power to take out fire types after it absorbs their moves. I'd suggest a specially offensive set like this:
    Heatran @ Air Balloon
    Ability: Flash Fire
    EVs: 252 SpA / 12 SpD / 244 Spe
    Timid Nature
    - Lava Plume
    - Earth Power
    - Overheat
    - Taunt/Flash Cannon
The EVs and nature let it outrun and KO adamant Excadrill, while giving it a little bit of extra bulk. Lava plume is 100% accurate fire STAB, while Flash Fire boosted Overheat is gonna hit like a TRUCK. Earth power gives excellent coverage, and taunt in the last moveslot actually gives Heatran a nifty role as an anti-lead and can help it stop walls in their tracks, or you can go Flash Cannon for more STAB.

The other thing I'd say for your team is to switch doublade for a physically defensive skarmory. Ground types give this team trouble, and that air balloon will only last so long. Skarmory's flying type means that it's only weak to electric and fire, with a whole punch of great resists and that all important ground type immunity. The set I like to run is this one:

    Skarmory @ Leftovers
    Ability: Sturdy
    EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spe
    Impish Nature
    IVs: 0 Atk
    - Roost
    - Whirlwind
    - Defog
    - Counter
With this set, Skarmory becomes a perfect defensive wall. It can switch in on resisted hits and take so little that lefties puts it right back at 100, keeping its sturdy, which can be really important. A skarmory with its sturdy unbroken can stop any threat and give your team a second chance at life. I run counter because Brave Bird barely touches most Pokémon, and counter lets it take out many of the physical threats it walls. Whirlwind is another great move, forcing Pokémon to take chip damage from hazards and, if worse comes to worse, you can switch in skarmory on a set up threat like +2 pinsir or mawile, hang on using sturdy and whirlwind it out. Defog is an important way to keep hazards down, and goes a long way towards keeping your team alive.

Nice team overall, I agree with thathyena that you should switch out Doublade for Skarm. Another suggestion though is giving Magnezone specs and running HP Fire, it nullifies those grass types out for Empoleon. If you also run Magnet Pull you'll be able to obliterate opposing Steel-types. Cheers.

Okay, I will go with the suggestion of removing Magnezone from my team and replacing with Heatran for the sole purpose that Magnezone is possibly the weakest link. Even Not Elsa has been more useful than Magnezone because of ice punch. However, Kirito actually holds out really well against most others because of iron defense and reflect, so I'm not switching him out. This will not be updated though until I have played an match with Heatran (to be named Cooper after a certain train fanatic fictional scientist).

Also, Mawile's nickname is officially changed to Not Elsa. Also nature is now changed to Jolly to give it a bit more of a speed boost and live up to her namesake, or not, whatever her and the RNG goddess decide. And she now has an Assault Vest because Mega Mawile is Ubers (for some unknown reason) and Knock Off cause one of my Pokémon desperately needed that move.

Edit:: Heatran is now permanent member of team and Articuno has taken Mawile's title of Not Elsa.

Id Say keep the ferrothorn because if you had Skarm you would have two electric weaknesses with no resistances. The ferrothorn covers your empoleon better, and the empoleon covers the ferrothorn better.
