Ever tried roleplaying with someone and they had done godmodding or something you don't like in roleplays and it kind of bothered you? Or picked out a setting you didn't like without your consent? Anything just make you want to stop the roleplay completely? What are your roleplay pet peeves?

This isn't really the other person's fault, but I hate it when I'm planning on doing something to progress the story (which usually takes me more than one post) and in the process of doing so, they stop me from what I was doing. It's not really the other persons fault, though, because I don't really tell anyone when or if I'm about to do something.

I don't really have one, but if they do something that has nothing at all to do with the story and forces everyone to follow it, then I'd be ticked.

    Making the impossible, possible.
There was one RP that I was in (somewhere else), and other person's character had a small bag that she had brought with her (said character was running away from home).
Now, that wasn't the impossible part.
The impossible part was what was IN the SMALL bag.
This is what was in the small bag: grooming kit + dress + sleeping gown + accessories (sword and others) + travelling cloak
    I kid you not.

Also, when someone RPs in 1st person. It's their personal preference, I know, but still - it irks me.

Oh, and when their characters act OOC.
It's just. If you don't want to pin down their personality, then don't. It's hard when you say that your character acts a certain way but when you RP them, they act completely different.

My biggest pet peeve is what I'm going to call "breaking the power curve." In an rp, from what I've seen, good rp'ers will make the powers and abilities of their chars on about the same level as other characters, with a few well explained exceptions. Then there will be some people who join the rp and make their characters so far above the level of everyone else that either contrived circumstances or OOC situations have to happen just to balance out the newcomer. This is severely annoying to me, because not only can it break the story but it can ruin entire setups for characters that people were trying to accomplish.

Another thing that irritates me is similar. This would be when you are fighting somebody, and every single time you should definitely win the battle they pull something out of their ass so that they don't have to lose. Come on people. You lost, accept it and use it as a chance to grow your character. Don't just refuse to lose by constantly putting everyone else down and consequently making everybody else in the rp hate your character's guts.

Finally, I hate when people join an rp in the middle and make a character that screws up the entire story. This can happen in many different ways. It could be that you are role-playing gundam or something and somebody shows up as a digimon. You could also be rping darker characters in a warring world and somebody shows up as a pure angelic presence and beacon of good who owns a sword that can purge any evil within a five hundred mile radius. People need to realize that you don't have to be the center of attention to have fun in an rp. >.>

Most of my frustrations boil down to people not respecting the rp and everyone's characters, and to people who are just seeking attention.

Ho boy--I hate it when someone hijacks the story and makes it all about their character.

For example, I was game mastering a "save the magical world" RP, when a new player joined in and (I still don't know if it was accidental or intentional) started making the story about their character

I hate it when people god mod... it happens a lot on other forums I go to. XD I was playing as two characters and then some random person came along and described in detail what my characters did; then, she made them come to her house and made it seem as if the roleplay was meant to revolve around her. O_o

I hate it when I we would have more than 2 characters in a roleplay then all of a sudden the other person starts controlling my character. It's really confusing to me and it really ruins the flow of the roleplay in my opinion.

A couple of group RPs I had once been in completely fell through the roof when a new player joined with a really overpowered character. Their character not only had a car (which was completely taboo in the setting + continuity we were using, which revolved around the Chao from Sonic the Hedgehog), but an arsenal of weapons and abilities that made him tower over everyone else. Said character also derailed the plot of the story and made it all about themselves, which was really inconvenient for everyone else. Players who control other players' characters without their permission was another one I came across a lot.

    I've also encountered a couple of metagaming characters [when the character behaves as if they know information that they shouldn't, such as OOC or other characters' thoughts], one of whom was literally telepathic after his player decided that they suddenly wanted him to be as an excuse. As far as players themselves go, I dislike when they only give one sentence (or in some cases I've been in, one word) replies each and every time; it's okay every now and then if not much is going on in the story at the moment or if they're waiting for some more replies before deciding on what to do next, but when done all the time it can make it difficult for the next person to respond if they don't have much to work with. > <;
