Did you ever have a song that you used to love and always listen to? Before eventually, you listened to it too much or got bored of it or just plain moved on to other songs. The kind of song that still makes you cringe a little when you hear it, remembering how it used to be so great and now you just think... eurgh.

    Mine would be:

This used to be the song that played whenever my alarm went off, and I used it to wake too a few years too many. Not a fan anymore.

In my case, what ruins a song the most for me would be actually understanding the lyrics. I generally like my musics of choice to not have words or lyrics in them, as I generally find them distracting from the actual piece itself (this is not true in all cases, of course - there are quite a few exceptions).

I used to listen to a lot of oldies songs while younger, though when I actually bothered to try and learn the lyrics so I could sing along with them, the subject material for many of them was positively cringe-worthy. So many of the songs were so tasteless that it basically killed off my like of that genre for good. I assume that pop music is about twenty times worse than that, hence why I also try to stay as far away from that genre as is physically possible - which is a lot easier than it sounds, actually.

I listen to music for the tune, not the material. Words in music are usually distracting and serve to get in my way. Unless the words help to augment the tune somewhat, if I know a piece of music has lyrics I'll stay away - unless it's something like a Gregorian chant, in which I'll be rather drawn to it instead.

Don't you hate it when you still like a song but you cringe when you listen to it anyway?

Don't get me wrong, it's a fun party song, but it was so overplayed in 2012 that it's just a haunting reminder of annoying and pain.

I just remembered one... Thank you every freaking class band and concert band I've ever been in, but...

Seriously, it's overplayed in class bands and stuff, unless they are actually good/capable. It always sounds terrible, and I just can't listen without all the awful class band moments replaying in my head. So, I just can't listen to this beautiful piece properly anymore.
