First things first, FORCE YOURSELF TO ADD A QUOTA. Try to be in a situation where you can relax. Inspiration may find you. I’m a terrible writer though. Don’t trust me.
I just try to write whenever I feel like it and do as much as I can before inspiration leaves. It tends to be a very slow process. The exception is with Four Journeys, due to my self-enforced two chapter a week release schedule. Work on that tends to be more along the lines of: "Oh, shoot! I need to put up a new chapter tomorrow morning and I haven't written anything yet. Better get to work right now."
My advice is to find something to associate with writing, if that makes sense. For example, I used to always write my fanfiction while listening to the Paniola Ranch soundtrack. After a while, when I played that soundtrack alone I would automatically feel like sitting down to write because I learned to associate it with writing fanfiction. That's what helps to get me in the mood to write; otherwise, I just try to chug along and produce as much of a draft as I can because I know I can always go back to edit.
I forced my muse to get into the habit of writing every day. It used to be for just 30 minutes, but now we're up to 45 minutes each day. In the beginning, it was difficult to sit down and start writing every day, especially when tired and wanting to just zone out. But by forcing it to happen every day, it's far easier to just sit down, write for the daily length of time, and then feel accomplished for the rest of the day. Right now, the only stipulation that we have for writing is having enough light to see. I'm in the editing stage where I copy over a draft by hand into a notebook. It's dark in my room, so it's difficult to see the paper. It's better to have the sunlight coming right in behind me so I can see where I'm writing! Definitely! Researching is one of my favorite things to do while writing. Not only is it just interesting to learn about something, but I find that it makes the story world more real if you get the little details that might not seem important right.
Don’t sell youself short, Choco. You can’t be worse than me! Anywho, I normally just sit down in my office chair and write on my phone. I can type faster in my phone than my computer so I tend to get more into it when I write.
@Arod I can't be worse than you? Hahahah. I'm literally in the process of writing a fanfic about The Ultimate Mary-Sue. Fight me.
Ahaha. My only Pokémon fanfic was discontinued! It was SO DARN CLICHE! En garde! Never bring your fists to a swordfight.
Well guess what, these fists have claws, bub. *shnick* My fic has 24 reviews and I only have one regular reviewer and I’m pretty sure she is just taking pitty on me. I’m the best at what I do, which is being the worst.
Well, my fic has no more than six chapters. And people take pity on it 24/7! I just got a vote dump this morning. Look, that fic was written by a sixth grader who had no idea what a Mary-Sue was and had ONE OC who was a pain in the neck (Choco). I've flawed him over time to make it just about fine. THe amount of cringe in that book makes me want to throw up. Clawed fists? Not long enough! *pulls out katana*
Hah, well my Oc is a tall, bulky Mexican cowboy named Bronze. I’ve literally had him punch Pokémon, use a lasso, and he uses Spanish. His starter was Totodile that just so happened to come from the same region to the same region Bronze had. There’s also a ton of cheese in my fan fic. *Pulls our revovler* Sword range is nothing compared to my six shooter. Never bring a sword to a gun fight.
Still sounds cooler! I just used the Alolan starters like the idiot I am. Well, this is a tough situation. Good thing I have this! *pterodactyl screech that causes ear damage to anyone who hears it*
@ChocoChicken @Arod Neither of you are as bad at writing as I am. I created an overpowered Mary Sue who gets the girl with no resistance that I unpublished it was so bad AND it was an mlp story. Pulls out a shotgun with Buck-shot. Not to mention my Pokémon fanfic takes several amazing ideas and flushes them right down the drain in the first two chapters. Mary Sue stories are bad, but nothings worse than having a great idea and ruining it with bad writing. Pulls out C4 to send you, and my wonderful ideas, up in smoke.
Hold on, this isn't the place...so lets go make our own thread. Battle Royal thread of terrible writers, but where to put it, creative corner or game corner?
