For all of my lovelies who do traditional art, what kinds of sketchbooks do you use? I've seen toned sketchbooks before and they honestly look so neat. Also, do you fill up the entire sketchbook? Do you like to draw on the back of other art? I think I've filled maybe one entire sketchbook up in my entire life. Also I'm too much of a chicken to draw on the backs of art I don't want to smudge anything.
...Honestly, I have no idea what kind of sketchbooks I use. I have a couple of options at the store that I get them from, and I've used a couple of different sketchbooks. I don't know what the technical differences between them are, I just know that the one that I have right now has thicker paper that doesn't bleed through to the other side of the page when I push too hard, so I go ahead and draw on both sides of the paper. If it's something that I seriously love or I drew it for a specific purpose, I keep it on a single page, but other than that, I like to take advantage of as much paper as I can.
I had these two really nice sketchbooks in high school. They were hardcover and had a slight velvety feel to them. The paper inside was also pretty high quality. Unfortunately the store I brought them from closed down and I can't seem to find any more sketchbooks like them. It's a bit of a shame.
I don't even think the "sketchbook" I use is supposed to be an art sketchbook. I think it's more supposed to be used to take notes in class or something. There are no lines but the paper is super thin so unless it's light pencil doodles I just can't draw recto verso.
I use a lined notebook that I used to actually take notes in during class. I have abunch of better sketchbooks, but I am super afraid to ruin them, if that makes any sense
I use Canson XL Mixed Media sketchbooks! I'm on my 5-7th (unsure, might actually be more) sketch book right now. I was introduced to Canson sketchbooks in highschool, where they were required for art class. I remember I had to go to a Hobby Lobby 30 miles away to get them my freshman year, then after that they started to stock in Walmart, luckily. The textured paper feels great and lets me use (of course) several other art supplies besides just pencil. ^^ I don't draw on the back of other art because I'm afraid my drawings might bleed through the paper and mess with the other art (alcohol markers can do that, as well as water color-it warps the paper a bit and can alter the other drawing).
Oh I totally understand. I have what you would consider a 'fancy' sketchbook and I hate drawing in it for that reason. I've never personally used Canson but I know my roommate likes that brand!
I use sketchbooks that have been gifted to me every year since I have started drawing seriously. For what it is, they're good enough for me to draw on, and I wish i could fill up n entire sketchbook. Drawing on the back pages? No. But, if anyone could suggest a better sketchbook to use I'm all ears.
i think im going to invest in a small sketchbook bc i hate using large ones for some reason. i never fill them up.
