Let's discuss all things skincare here. How important is a skincare routine to you? What methods do you use to take care of your skin? Do you have any skin conditions? How often do you break out with pimples/acne? Have you used any medications to control skin conditions in the past? Regarding acne, I used to have very bad acne due to the stress of a breakup when I was 17.... I went from very clear skin to a stubborn breakout that wouldn't go away in a matter of months. Didn't do anything about it for years until I turned 21ish and got fed up. No creams the skin doctor gave worked so I finally got the doctor to let me take a prescription-based drug called Accutane. Very rough on the body (would really dry up parts of my skin) that required me to get monthly blood tests but nonetheless was a life saver. Helped clear up my skin a lot, and then I started going to a cosmetologist my mom's friend recommended to clear up the remainder of the acne and scar spots. Now I have very healthy and mostly smooth, acne-free skin It has been expensive to maintain the cosmetologist appointments but I am happy to feel comfortable looking people in the eye without being self-conscious. I keep various PCA Skin products in the morning on my face throughout the day to further control breakouts and take care of stray white/blackheads. And moisturizing face wash in the evening, with other creams occasionally depending on what I feel I need Not really much I can take for the rosacea though so I kinda cover that up with foundation lol... What about you guys?
I had very awful acne when I was a teenager, though that isn't the case anymore - while I'll get a pimple or two now, they're easily taken care of. In the process, I also found out that acne is hereditary! So for those of you planning to one day have children, keep that in mind. I remember being fairly disciplined about it back then (I used salicylic acid, which was the most effective thing for me), but I disliked it immensely. It was the one thing as a teenager that I did not look forward to, ever.
I hate it! I don't have it as bad but the ones I get suck and I don't like them. Normally on my forehead, my hair is long and flippy enough to cover it.
Several years ago, when I had a fringe, I used to get a fair few pimples on my forehead. I wouldn't call it acne as such, but I was quite self-conscious about it. They weren't visible with my fringe though so I kept it for a few years. Then I decided to grow my fringe out - best decision ever lol. My face is a lot clearer now, and any pimples I do get are just the sporadic few that'll be gone by the end of the week. I still struggle with blackheads though, they just refuse to leave. I've been using face washes but I'm not sure how effective they are. It doesn't bother me too much, but it's something to work towards fixing.
I had the worst acne when I was a teenager. Luckily it seems to have calmed down and I break out very seldom. I just use face wash at night, and sometimes in the morning too and it seems to work okay for me.
Like most guys, acne was a problem during my teenage years, but it wasn't as bad as other guys because I was taught how to properly clean myself. I don't require any particular items insofar as skin care goes, though (if it counts) I make sure to put sunscreen on when necessary.
My acne is weird. If you look at my right (if you looked at me face-to-face, your left) side of my face, there's only a few, but my left side's cheek is almost covered in them. This is the reason I want photos taken on my right side rather than my left.
Do you sleep with your left cheek to the pillow? That could be why it's only on that side. I've had something similar happen to my right cheek when I slept on it.
I have a skin condition where dead skin clogs my pores instead of oil. To deal with this I use an exfoliating brush and Dandruff shampoo in addition to body was and acne scrub. For me it works wonders. I still get blackheads and pimples but not nearly as bad as before and they are easy to deal with.
I probably don't take of my skin as much as I should, but nothing really happens to me that much either. I'm probable very, very lucky I've never had a breakout before but I tend to avoid things that cause them, I heard makeup was a big one. It's strange because according to another poster it's hereditary and my mother has it bad, but my father really doesn't. I guess that's another reason how I'm more similar to my father than my mother, haha.
Yeah, it was the other way around for me - my father had it awful and my mother didn't have it at all. Thanks, Dad.
Gonna jump in and confirm my sister's statement. Our mom still deals with while our dad has nice clear skin. Also like her, I've been lucky as to never suffer a breakout before. Must be because of my makeup and by that I mean total lack of makeup. Strange, considering I don't really do anything fancy with my skin.
I've been relatively lucky and didn't suffer anything bad through my teenage years. Sure I had one or two whiteheads on my face at a time (still happens albeit very rarely) but it wasn't a full on breakout. I usually keep a regular supply of the facial soap from Trader Joe's and it does a good job in keeping my face clean. When one does sprout up, I do have to avoid shaving as it will only make things even worse. Most of the time, any acne that I had was gone in two or three days. My brother is not as fortunate and he constantly has to deal with them.
I actually have eczema, so my skin is really, really dry. I guess the only benefit is that I don’t get pimples or anything because my skin is too dry and doesn’t trap oils. So I have a ton of medications and prescribed creams to keep it moisterized. It used to be really bad when I was younger, but has since cleared up and now my dry skin mostly affects my face. But it isn’t all that bad due to the fact I’m drinking more water, just a couple of patches here and there, but it isn’t anything too bad. So now I’m trying this Korean face cream that’s supposed to remove dead skin while also brightening it, but I haven’t been keeping up with it ;w; I gotta start applying it more often.
Lol, well, apparently I'm suffering from a combination of hereditary diseases that destroy my skin when left unattended so... Basically I have a certain medicinal lotion and 3 different cortico-steroid creams that I have to apply daily in order to suppress the symptoms and prevent me from looking like an oni. That combined with an affinity for acne leaves me with a grand total of 2 lotions and 3 creams. Honestly, it's a hassle to apply everything every day (I have to set alarms to remind myself) but the stuff does its job nicely.
I dont have pimples/acne. One or Two but there aren't much. I dont take any special care of my skin, I dont even use cream or anything xD Since eclipse said its hereditary, I can see why I dont have it. My mom and dad both dont have it at all though my bro has it. Poor him xD
I don't have acne either, but then again I've got plenty of teenage years left. If acne is caused by makeup, that could be something; I've avoided makeup ever since, when I was younger, a friend tried to put - I think it was eye shadow? - on my face and my eyes turned really itchy. I wouldn't call it a reaction (because I'm not allergic to anything), but it was certainly unpleasant. I actually do nothing with my face but wipe it with a washcloth once a day. I get the occasional fleeting pimple; I also do have a problem with blackheads, but it doesn't bother me and I don't do anything about them >.>
Aside from the very rare pimple once a year (if even that?), I don't really get acne or breakouts or anything like that, really. I suppose I should count myself lucky?
