Yo, I can't sleep myself at the moment so I always wondered... Do you ever have nights you can't sleep due to your own thoughts? What kind of thoughts keep you up? Any tips for relaxing and getting some shut eye?
Well, for one thoughts about people can keep me up for a really long time. And not necessarily bad thoughts, even things like "I wonder what they would look like if they did their hair like this." Also, thinking about quite a few of my own or other people's characters and/or stories can keep me up for days on end, for a reason I haven't figured out just yet; it just keeps my brain running, I guess. And then there's staring thoughtlessly ahead of me, finding funny shapes in the ceiling or being mesmerised by something chaging colours. That has in fact kept me up entire nights before, and strangely enough it never leaves me tired or sleepy. I suppose since I'm really not doing anything and technically am resting.. Now, when it comes to actually falling asleep, there's only one advice I can give you. Close your eyes and start dreaming, no matter whether you fall asleep or not, you'll get some rest either way and it's better than getting up and doing things if you can't sleep.
I'm usually awake for a while because I'm on my phone talking with people or youtube. Though it does happen. I stayed up thinking a while about leaving Hawaii, and the memories I have of that. As for advice, just ride it out. Fighting makes it worse for me
This happens a lot with me. There are times where I have a hard time sleeping at night due to either playing a really old game I haven't played with in a long time or a new one and some anime/cartoon series that I enjoy watching. Sometimes, it could be when my pets are feeling ill at night and I have to stay up all night to take care of them. What I suggest is make sure you finish whatever it is in your head before night time so your brain won't focus on what you didn't finish. When we are in the middle of something, whether it is a game, tv show, school assignments, or work related, our brains will continue to have us rethink about our unfinished tasks and have us think more about what might happen after we finish and it could go on until you finished your task. And if you still didn't finish your tasks, try to either listen to some relaxing music or move your electronics away. By listening to some soft/relaxing music, your brain will focus on the sound and it will relax all muscles in your brain. For moving electronics, some people say that electronics make some sort of electric wave, while devices are on, that disturbs your sleep at times and will cause you to wake up and stay up for the rest of the night. Basically, make sure your brain is at ease when trying to get some sleep. That way nothing can keep you up nor interrupt your slumber
Do I ever. This happens at least 90% of the time, such that I have to take countermeasures so that I stop thinking. There are standardly 3 factors that impact my ability to sleep. From most to least common, they are: if I have any thoughts going through my head; if the temperature is too warm for me to easily handle; or if there is something I am looking forward to (or must do) the following day. I've noticed that a lot of ideas - and some of my best ideas - come to me right as I'm about to go to sleep (it happened again 2 days ago). I've also noticed that music helps to interrupt my train of thought. So, to counteract my own mind, I play classical music to help me sleep. (Other genres might have me too focused in the tune of the music itself - which would keep me awake, which is not what I want.) The method isn't foolproof, but the only time when it really fails is when the thoughts are strong and loud enough that they vie for attention even then. Or if it's still too hot. There's that too.
I feel that so much!! You just think and then keep thinking about pointless or or troublesome things and then you don't sleep!! Keeping a blank mind is best I've learned, and that's cool. I can't fall asleep listening to anything, usually I sleep light, only when I'm truly tired do I sleep heavy. I didn't even think of this! Thanks a bunch Lunar! Too bad I never finish anything, oops! Do you think this is true for drawing too? Or reading something?
Usually I just fry my brain with games, videos and creepypastas before falling asleep out of exhaustion, that way I never have ponder about the meaning of life or whatever. After the WC2014 semifinal I did lie in bed unable to sleep because I was sad, disappointed and depressed with the outcome and wondering what would've happened if a few things would've been different, but that was one of the few times something like that happened to me.
Yup! Basically, any unfinished tasks will get your mind going even a drawing or reading a book. which is why I never sleep lol
This happens so much with me, lol. Usually thoughts about the stupidest things are what keep me up. Or I keep stressing myself out because I can't sleep, ahaha. Usually I can only fall asleep when I'm too tired to keep my eyes open.
Oh goodness, I totally get what you mean. I keep myself awake with my own thoughts WAY too much. I always get caught on topics that I have to think through before I can fall asleep, and it can be a total pain in the butt. I'm the kind of person who can't fall asleep when they want to, but falls asleep when they don't want to. It can be pretty annoying, but I deal with it (maybe).
Hoo boy, I'm definitely a culprit of this caper right here. I find myself often lying awake with my thoughts running wild and loose, often leading to entire colourful landscapes full of characters, each with their own personalities and senses of purpose. It seems that my terrible habit of daydreaming doesn't sleep haha Often times it's very hard to keep tabs on these thoughts too because a lot of the time I like to indulge myself in this false and colourful sense of reality. I have the power to stop myself if I have to, I just in general don't want to, and that's where my problems lie ultimately. That plus my sleep schedule is, how you say, borked haha. Still, could be worse I guess. After all, it just means I got more material to use later in various creations right?
I rarely have a night without waking up a few times, but the other night I couldn't sleep because I was thinking about the time when I was working on my art assignment & a few grade 9 boys (why are juniors scary) were like "Oh dude, look what she made, dude thats so cool", & they recognised what I made, so I couldn't sleep due to overwhelming happiness. The time I was happy overthinking is when I needed to sleep the most xD How inconvenient. I used to listen to classical music to help me sleep, but ever since learning piano, I listen deeply to every song & just keep making lists of ones I want to learn aha
Definitely, all the time. It's best just to think it out until you're just so distracted you end up falling asleep anyways!
This happens to me more often than I would like it to...I think I normally just pass out from exhaustion around 1am though; my body is conditioned to sleep at specific times, so I kinda just shut down of my own accord. I've found deliberately thinking of something else, or even re-reading what I've written - because it's always due to talking to people that I reach this state - can help me resolve any stray thoughts, though. Or even writing stuff down and just putting it to one side for the next morning.
