With a variety of smartwatches available with the Pebble to the Apple Watch, do any of you own one?

Many companies advertise the many apps and little gimmicks the watches provide such as a heartrate monitor, messaging, an interactive interface, among other things. On the other hand, many are not a fan of the low battery life or don't see a reason to use the watch when it connects with their phone which can do almost the same capabilities.

What do you guys think of smart watches? Do you think smartwatches are a necessity? Do they add to your ego? What are some pros and con?

I've never been a watch guy, and I see smartwatches even more useless than an ordinary watch in this day and age. It is far from a necessity. When I hear/see the word necessity, I think food, water, clothing etc.

No pros to a smartwatch as far as I can see. Anything it can do, a phone, tablet, or PC can do better. The cons? Everything.

Its basically a smartphone but more attached to you. That's it. You could literally duct tape an iPhone on your arm and essentially have the same exact thing, except its a bit larger. The only pro to it is that its essentially a more easily accessible smartphone.

I don't find them very useful. First of all, I find ordinary watches more stylish than smartwatches. I would feel embarassed if I was to go around wearing a smartwatch. And just like what the others have said, smartphones can do what it does. It has its advantages but really, it just doesn't look like a good deal to me.

A friend of me actually has one of these smartwatches, and there are definitely some neat things you can do with it. I'll admit, I personally absolutely don't think it's worth the price, but he's into stuff like that so wahtever xD It's definitely not the greatest invention of the year, but it's not horrible either.

Besides, I don't wear a watch anyway, so it'd just feel weird for me xD

I think the technology needs to be refined more. Maybe in a few years I'll buy one.

I do wear a watch regularly, partly because there's no clocks where I work, and partly because watches are classy. I actually have three different watches for different levels of classiness.

    What I'd rather have than a smartwatch is a Pip-Boy 3000, à la Fallout.

Someone already made a pretty sweet comparison chart here, but really, who wouldn't want one? Instantaneous medical diagnosis, constantly updating GPS and local area mapper, the most comprehensive to-do manager anywhere (which is perfectly integrated to the GPS map), a battery that will last longer than your lifespan. I think I'll just wait another 62 years and get one of those, thank you very much.

I still find the concept of taking a phone call by yelling at your wrist (at least for the Gear S) to be hilarious. My Networks lecturer had one not too long ago, and he said he picked it up in Dubai well before they were really a thing here. They look nice, but I have no plans to buy one anytime soon.

Smartwatches are pointless to me, honestly. As @[member="Rafael"] mentioned:

    And as @[member="Nator"] said:

Not much else for me to say. The idea of a phone call seems cool at first until you realize it's usually a constant speakerphone if you don't hve headphones.
