Smoking

Not exactly my favorite pastime. I disapprove of the activity in general, and I hate the ones who know perfectly well what smoking does to you influencing people who don't know better. Secondhand smoke is dangerous as well. If others smoke around me, the smell usually always gets in my face and it's terrible. Also, they're just contributing to pollution, so there's that.
I understand that quitting is hard, and feel some sympathy for those who are stuck in the cycle, but that does not mean I approve of them either. I understand, but also believe that it's plain bad for you, and for the environment, and that is something I feel strongly about

 

I don't do it myself, but I don't care if others do, tbh, as long as I'm still able to breath

 

Do not get me started on smoking! I extremely dislike this practice and I believe it should be banned, though I do not see this happening. Every time I go shopping, there are smokers in every nook and cranny of the outside shops. I then have difficulty breathing that comes from the noxious smell, as well as heavy coughing.

 

If someone smokes in my house, I'm kicking them out before the blink of an eye & if I see it elsewhere, well, I can't really kick them out or stop them, but I'll give them a long talking too. Nobody I know personally smokes, so I usually don't mind it. They're pretty much shortening their lifespan by god knows how long, so if they wanna do that, I say let em. Their problem, not mine.

 

To cut the long story short, I'll just sum up my opinion of smoking in one simple sentence:

Smoking is like paying for lung cancer in instalments.

I understand that it's difficult to break the habit once one starts and I won't judge people for practicing it, but I do hope that everyone knows its dangers to both themselves and others.

 

I don't like smoking at all. My step-grandma has health issues from smoking and I can't stand the stench of it.
I believe that everyone is free to make their choices, but not the consequences of their choice.

 

This: You do not, do NOT stink up my house with your bad decisions.

That said... I'm torn between smoking. I do not smoke, ever, and do not foresee myself ever smoking. Smoking is a complete dealbreaker when I meet an otherwise attractive woman, and it means I won't hang out with those people outside of what I have to (work, mostly). On the other hand, if they want to die young and let there be that much less competition for social security money when I'm old then hey, that's cool too. The fewer old folks I'm trying to split free money with, the better.

Oh, and all that goes to vaping too. Health impact is inconclusive, so people get all high and mighty about it, but I swear, next time a (about ten naughty words removed here) vapist decides to blow smoke-not-smoke in my general direction, I will either punch that device down his throat, snap it in half, or throw it to the horizon. Mark my words. I don't care if it isn't smoke, it's still (a few more naughty words removed) rude to blow in anyone's face.

 

I've noticed a rather odd trend amongst most smokers that I've seen. I don't know if I seem to run into the same kinds of people over and over again, or if smoking has this kind of psychological effect that needs to be suppressed, but it is merely an observation:
Those who smoke tend to have little regards for others, particularly in regards to the fumes they exhale. Why don't they care? Why don't they move somewhere else? I don't know, nor would I know why they choose to adopt this behaviour in the first place. Is smoking merely an escape for them from an otherwise crappy life, a way to relax and wind down? Or does it merely amplify one's own disrespect for the fellow man, not caring about the health effect it has on others.

I'm sure that those who smoke don't do so for the health reasons, and most people are very well aware of the risks. I don't believe people generally pick up smoking knowing the health problems that will come from it, unless they are attempting to slowly commit suicide. Except, that already seems like a vastly inefficient way to end one's own life, so I could not say.

But perhaps it's the kind of people in general. I've seen vapers who are much the same way - though those are among the rarer I've seen. Of those I have met who use vaporisers, they tend to be rather considerate about it. It doesn't seem to have a largely adverse effect on others around them too, thankfully.

Reining the topic back in, I don't know very many smokers myself, and I am not one either. Were I in a situation where I dealt with one in my domain in my possession, I would have to make it abundantly clear that smoking isn't permitted around me or my mode of transport (the reasons for this are both health-related and legal-related). I already live in a heavily-polluted area, and I'm sure my life expectancy won't be that high from it. I do not need to exacerbate that, and in addition to that, I want to leave this world on my own terms if I can help it.

Cigarette smoke smells even worse than marijuana smoke, and that's saying something.

 

I'm not too torn about it. I'll never do it, but how I was raised kinda made me not caring. Do what ever you want, so long as you don't drag me into it. I'm good friends with a lot of smokers, vapors, pot heads, etc. They are all very intelligent people, and they know the risks of it. They don't make me do it, and they even tell me not to. Some people find it as a stress reliever. My father likes the burn of it, and that it gives his mouth something to do. I won't pick up that type of smoking (though I've toyed with the idea of smoking a pipe without nicotine), but I won't tell others not to. Unless they do as zero said, then I'll choke a mother fucker out

 

I don't try to dissuade smokers from smoking, it's not something my words can achieve so I'm okay with other people smoking as long as they stay far away from me. I like my lungs, thank you very much, and I'd like to live long enough to see Kanye West becoming president.

 

Cigarette smoke smells more of tobacco than it does of nicotine.
You're right; the odour of nicotine is very faint and at least bearable. Marijuana is definitely more pungent by a substantial factor, but there is something in cigarette smoke that near makes me gag when around it; marijuana doesn't generate the same reflex. I really couldn't say why that is.

Either way, I can't stand being around either for much longer than 15 seconds.
