There are some games that remain unfinished by the player(s), whether it be because of difficulty, lack of interest, or a variety of other reasons. Many of us plan to return to these games, but have never gone through with it.

Which game(s) do you still need to complete that you are almost done with? Why did you put it off? When will you get to it?

Bravely Second headlines my list. It's been nearly three years since I last touched it, and I remember almost nothing from the plot. Because of this, I will likely have to restart, despite being most of the way through the game. Alongside this is the Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) campaign, which I almost finished but just haven't gotten around to. Both of these are games I would like to complete, but I just need to take the time to do so.

    Sonic Mania and Cuphead.

I have NEVER been good at Sonic games, from the original Genesis games to today (none of the 3D ones count because their difficulty comes with janky controls, horrible camera angles, and glitchy environments, not from level design and enemy placement). Currently I'm stuck on World 6, and I don't see myself moving forward anytime soon; sometimes I'll get the itch to pick it up and finally finish it, but I'll just get so frustrated with my own lack of ability and put it down for another couple of months). And that's not even getting into the ball mazes or chasing down the Chaos Emeralds...

With Cuphead, this counts even moreso, but I am more confident in my abilities with this one because rather than trying to map out entire levels in my head, I can simply watch how a boss acts, recognize the patterns, and react accordingly. That's why I'm currently on King Dice, rather than where I am in Mania.

Don't get me wrong - I love both games, and I'm glad that I own them. However, I have my limits, and these games bring me to the brink.

I actually have very few unfinished games on my backloggery. I am generally good at finishing what I start unless I get bored and/or distracted by something else, and if I stick with a game long enough to be close to the end, I am probably going to see the end.

I got close to the end of Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, but I stopped because it was just so damn BAD. Seriously, this game is a massive step backwards from Star Ocean 4, with it's mediocre and clunky combat, lack of cutscenes - resulting in lots of standing around and talking - and rather uninspired narrative. I might come back and finish it one day, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Final Fantasy V is another one I REALLY need to get back to. I got right to end of it on the GBA and then my save file corrupted because it was a bootleg copy...a very good, very convincing bootleg, but nonetheless. I have the game on Steam and I fully intend to finish it this time.

I CAN'T BEAT THE FINAL BOSS! The battle before this one was already hard so I changed the dufficulty to "gentle" and then it got easy af, but the final...
It is even too hard on the easiest difficulty. As much as I love the game idea, these "stage battles" where you need to destroy your enemies stage, were Always a big problem for me. I will probably never finish this game...

Please don't kill me. I'm really bad at platformers. But even after several hours of co-op, everyone I've played with can't seem to get us even halfway through World 2.
    - EarthBound
I'm currently grinding for the Broken Parabolic so I can make the best weapon for Jeff. I'm not a patient person, though, and grinding is about as boring as it can get. Considering EarthBound's "super rare weapons" are all 1/128 chance, I don't think I'll be getting it anytime soon. Even the Sword of Kings was faster... and I don't even want to THINK about the Star Pendants. (1/2097152 chance at that point... I think I'll be happy with not doing those.)
    - Kirby Star Allies: Another Dimension
Hear me out on this one. This mode is hard. In order to get through, I've been abusing every co-op trick I know. And since nobody seems to be willing to be 2nd player, I'm just staying out for now.
    - Super Smash Bros: World of Light
    IT'S BLOODY MASSIVE.
    - Splatoon 2: Hero Mode
No excuses for this one. I just suck at it.

The Witness recently was free for PlayStation plus members, and i took the opportunity because I love the game and it's visuals. It's a Puzzle based game that I have finished, but not 100%. The main reason being the challenge.

The challenge is a completely optional part of the game, that requires you to be well experienced with the various puzzle types throughout the games world. Due to the circumstances needed to unlock the challenge, you would have been exposed to each puzzle type by now. The challenge is a sort of final test, a timed area in where there are puzzles to solve one by one. Sounds easy, but unfortunately its a lot harder than it seems. The game has an algorithm which changes the puzzles presented each time you restart, so there is no memorizing puzzle answers, as well as having to refer back to previous parts of the challenge to proceed forth. Passing through the area in the approx 7/8 minutes provided via a music cue is a lot harder than it seems.

The trophy on the ps4 for completing said challenge shows that roughly 2.6% of those who have played the game have successfully achieved the task. And I am still going back and retrying the challenge all the time.

Apologies for the long post, I also highly recommend The Witness if you enjoy puzzle games or games with a calming atmosphere or even just pretty games in general lol.

    I've got quite a few.

Enter the Gungeon: This game is just hard. I've only ever reached the 5th Chamber once and the 4th Chamber twice. How well I do usually depends on RNG. I could do better, but I need a second player around my play level.

Final Fantasy VIII: All I can say is Triple Triad.

FE Fates Conquest/Revelation: It's been long enough that I just can't remember what I was doing

Sonic Forces: The missions are the only thing that stand in my way. Specifically the ones that require me to speedrun Classic Sonic's levels. I'm no good with Classic Sonic.

DBXV2 DLC: Missing some Super Souls and some Skills. I'll get to it once I can assemble a team. Don't have the two most recent DLC packs yet.

FE Warriors: Weapons Scrolls and Lady Sword. What's stopping me, besides grinding, is that I've hit the limit on what weapons I can keep and just don't want to throw any away.

Oh... Sir! Hollywood Roast: Missing Groan. Don't really care about Campaign mode any more.

TLoZ BotW Master Mode: All I have left is Trial of the Sword. This is ridiculously hard even with the Shield Clip exploit, which I can still do because I refuse to update it.

I admit, that is hard, but not that hard. Seriously, if I can get all the hearts on my own without co-op and clear it, you can. The difficulty setting for Ultimate Choice you unlock through that mode on the other hand... Well, just don't get me started on how hard that is. You have the internet for that. That being said, I haven't exactly finished this game either. Completing Ultimate Choice and Guest Star for all characters is just something I can't motivate myself to do. Maybe if I play co-op witrh someone I'll finish it eventually.

You're talking to someone who took 12 attempts on the first Friend Circle level to figure out that you can High Jump, has never beat the final boss without dying at least once, and can't even get past Level 5 on Ultimate Choice.

Kirby Mass Attack. There are only a few more levels left that I need to get a gold medal on (taking no damage in the level) and that is literally the last thing I need to do to beat the game 100%. But it’s so hard. I’ve played one level so many times that I’ve almost memorized half the level. I beat the final boss without getting hit, yet I’m struggling with a few normal levels. I’ve been at it for years.

I’m always shuffling through several games at once, which leads to a lot of unfinished titles. Here are some recent examples:

Pokémon Ultra Sun: I was replaying it with a new team, but lost interest since it’s fifth trek through Alola. While it’s taken months, I am slowly getting through Akala Island.

Dragon Quest 8: I put off the PS2 version so I can focus on Dragon Quest 5. Once I’m done with 5, I’ll go back to this one.

Persona 3 FES: Been playing this title in 1-hour sessions for the last few months, but I took a break to focus on moving. Now that I’m done, I plan to play some more tomorrow.

Xenoblade Chronicles: What a buncha jokas! I had to pack my Wii U with Xenoblade Chronicles in order to move. Once I hook it back up, I’ll be sure to return to this gem.

So I played Kirby Planet Robobot last week and I started at 76% complete, but through some grinding I got it to 98% complete. The last thing I need to do is complete the true arena but it’s so hard. I’m so close to beating it but I keep losing in the 3rd to last round.

Super Paper Mario and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the wild. Concerning Botw, I find myself unable to find all of these stupid Krogs. I don't know if even want to find them all. As for Super Paper Mario: I can't beat the sixth chapter (post-game), I just keep dying.

Jokes aside, I still have to complete Wizard of Legend, despite myself enjoying it tons and being pretty close to finishing before I put it off. Now I have to relearn all the patterns of the bosses, though… That's gonna take a WHILE.

I usually like to complete games 100%, but there are times where if I can't beat the final boss, or I miss a single collectible, I'm still happy with it and just tell myself that I beat the game. Most recently this happened with Donkey Kong 64 (I know, old game, but my family never owned it, so when my cousin brought it over it was the first time I had played it. We didn't have it for too long though, so because I was on a time limit I wasn't able to complete it as much as I would have wanted to).
I probably also won't ever complete Super Mario Odyssey, at least not on 100%. I'm going to beat Bowser, sure, but definitely not get all of the power moons.

I've played Stardew Valley for 255 hours and I still can't beat Journey of the Prairie King, it's all I need to 100% the achievements smh

Also Hollow Knight, I've done two playthroughs but haven't touched the Godmaster content yet because, quite frankly, I was already content with the amount of Bosses in HK. I didn't need more, but they're there and I should do them eventually.

I need to finish Mario and Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, it's the only Switch game I have that I haven't gotten everything out of yet, relatively speaking; The combat is fun but there's too many pointless collectibles scattered in the boring-ass overworld.

I've got so many more games that I've started but haven't finished, and some New Game+ modes to beat (Tales of Berseria in particular, that's gonna be an awesome weekend when I get around to that again), but I'd rather start in on my backlog of games that I haven't even touched yet, because thanks Humble Bundle. Summer Scramble has caused me to put this project off, though.
