Music is a beautiful thing, the universal language of all. Almost all of us love songs, whether they are classical pieces or songs from popular culture. But the question is: Do you prefer songs from the past or songs from nowadays? Or more simply, do you prefer songs from this century or before this century?

THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE GAME MUSIC!

In my opinion, I prefer songs from before this century. Songs from the '80's, '70's, '60's and '50's. Some of my personal favourites include Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, John Farnham, ABBA, The Beatles, Mister Mister, Janette Jackson, The Monkey and Men at Work.

While I believe that every song has potential, old songs are what, personally, I think have more taste, more beautiful melodies and more catchy tunes. Songs from nowadays can never amount to the songs from the past (there are a few exceptions such as Katy Perry). I am not a fan at all of the style of R&B or Hip Hop, as they are bland to my taste. Most songs nowadays have terrible lyrics that include swearing or words that I find quite disturbing whereas many songs in the past, I recall, are fairly modest and include meaningful lyrics.

Everybody, please remember that these are only just my opinion, and if I offended anybody with these opinions, please be gentle on me and ask me politely to take back what I said, for I dislike hurting anybody's feelings.

Well, though I don't listen to much music, I think I like an equal mix of songs from the past and songs from recent times. I like most of Amy Grant's songs, including her older ones, whereas a lot of modern artists like Christina Perri and P!nk only have one or two songs I enjoy and the rest aren't good.

Classic songs all the way--I will agree that most music today (with a few very rare exceptions) is trash.

I have a soft spot for 80's and 90's pop as well--many of my fondest memories have a song associated with it.

You sadden me! That is the only genre of music I truly like that was made after 1980, with the curious exception of Bon Jovi, and the magnificent exception of John Williams.

But, if I'm not permitted to speak of game musics (of which there are myriad), then I will simply state that my favourite music genre is Baroque, and that many tracks high on my favourite list fall into that genre.

I believe that should answer the question sufficiently, but I wish to slip in my opinion that I believe modern pop music is utter crap, and that's the nicest thing I can say about it.

Off course you can! To be honest, I only said that game music is not included is because I will have A LOT to write about it since I love game music so much, and there is another thread about game music.

Oh, and about that last line you mention about modern pop music, I completely agree with you, just not with that 'c' word I cannot use.

It really depends on what you classify as "past" or classify as "new"
I like stuff like Three Days Grace, Skillet, Linkin Park, Black Veiled Brides, Falling in Reverse and Lonely Island.
