While I was reading (Some years ago) I noticed that I read pretty slow which can sometimes bore me, although not very often I always wondered is it possible to read fast? So, I did a little searching on the internet and found out people are doing this while also comprehending there works at the same time which I thought to myself would be beneficial in a ton of ways for me getting done with a book in just mere hours (Depends on the book obviously), and getting through school work much faster so i'd have more time for "Other things". I eventually tried this out, even going as far as downloading speed reading software, i'd done it for 2 years and achieved nothing my comprehension has gotten nowhere with speed reading and at this point I don't find it to be reliable especially when you want to enjoy a good book, would you really want to rush through it?
I like to hear two thing from anyone reading this post
    1) Have you ever tried or ever been interested in speed reading?
    2) If you have tried it do you think people should try out this method? If your just interested do you think speed reading is just some scam for people to buy and download software etc. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I've tried speed reading before, but I never tried to apply it in real life.

It worked for me, I could comprehend paragraphs upon paragraphs of words flashing by at over 600 words per minute. I don't think it's a scam, but perhaps it doesn't work for everyone.

I can speed read and comprehend things sometimes, but if I'm trying to learn something by reading I need to read slowly, and usually multiple times. It just depends on the material.

As everyone said, it's not for everyone but if it's something you can do then it's a valuable skill especially when you have to read a lot in a short period of time. I speed read all of the time and it works great for me, the key for me is to find key words or phrases that that keep coming up. I do it this way because it's easier for me to understand if I can connect the man points.

I wouldn't recommend it to someone simply because it's easier just reading at your own pace.

Yes! Freshman year in High School, I was in Debate, so I had to learn to read fast and comprehend everything, and be able to repeat what the paper was about, and answer any questions thrown my way. With enough practice (Which it really isn't too difficult), I was reading 1000 words or something in 10 or 15 seconds, and that was out loud. Reading to yourself, you can go a lot faster. It's extremely reliable, but I only recommend it if you're planning on doing something having to do with the topic right after you read it. Speed reading is not good for long term, as it's better to read slowly to easily absorb the information.

    Hope this helped!~<3

Edit: Upon actually reading your post (Sorry, it's 12:00 AM, I'm exhausted), I have to change my answer. For retaining valuable information, unless you practice constantly, and you don't have the memory of a goldfish, Speed reading is not reliable.
