"Vito, get over it. It wasn't real, it was just your imagination." The woman stared him down, making the young boy crumple under her gaze. As she turned and walked away, he slowly rose up again. The boy was slightly charming, with jet black hair that added contrast to his crimson red eyes. Staring down at his hands, he still remembered the feeling of the warm scaly hide underneath his palm. "Yes, ma.." He spoke as if the woman was still there despite her being in another room. "I apologize…" Vito's eyes slowly opened, looking up at the dull brown colour of the wooden ceiling. It had only been a few months since he'd entered into the academy and he'd still not gotten used to boring brown wood. Throwing off the beige sheets from his lanky frame, he stood up off of his bed and felt a breeze between his bare legs. He found that his window was open, most likely left that way by his roommate. Looking to the blond boy, he stormed over. Hatching a plan, Vito smiled as he went to the foot of the bed. In a matter of seconds, the blanket that were on the boy now lay on the floor. "Wake up, Goldilocks." Walking over to his dresser, he tossed open the doors to reveal a colourful variety of slim-fitting clothes. "Not today, maybe some other time." Pushing aside most of the colourful clothing sets, he came across a small area furthest to the left with a number of uniforms. Colours of the vest were always either a light grey or a beige, while the shirt was blueish grey or white and each had a pair of khaki pants of varying colours. Grabbing two uniforms, he tossed one to his roommate. "Oi, don't throw some shoddy uniform at me." The blond haired boy groggily sat up, his thick Irish accent showing clear signs of annoyance. He had only been wearing boxers in his sleep, so he started putting on his uniform, continuing to wear the same pair of boxers from the night before. Vito emerged from his closet wearing his uniform. "Right, would you rather me let you sleep through classes? You can learn oh so much here though," He mocked something many teachers commonly said. Grabbing a teal ball with black lines from his nightstand, along with a few others, he walked to the door. "Come on, Valentino. We've got to get to breakfast while there's still time." "Alroit, alroit, I'm up." Getting off his bed, he grabbed two black and gold balls from his nightstand and walked next to Vito. The two were near opposites when looking at appearances. Vito had jet black hair that he kept slicked back, while Valen had platinum blonde hair that he kept down. Vito had crimson red eyes whereas Valen had cool cyan eyes. There were many opposites between them, but there were also many similarities. "Jeez, yer as energetic as a blue arsed fly." Vito smacked him across the back of his head as they walked down the hallways. "I'm not energetic, I'm just trying not to fail." The duo walked nearly in unison. Slowly, Valentino started a low hum and turned it into a small melody that seemed to reverberate off the walls. As they approached the large doors to the dining hall, Valen quieted down. Vito smiled at him before throwing open the doors and walking in. The dining hall was magnificent, large chandeliers hung from the ceiling as they lit up the room. The two walked through the serving line as they fixed their food and sat at a small table away from most of the others. Throughout the dining hall, creatures of varying sizes and appearances were eating different type of kibble. Valen took the two small balls from his pocket and tossed them. They enlarged and opened, a burst of purple and green from both giving way to two different creatures. The first was a small orange insect-like creature. It's body was split up into two segments with a thick yet small neck between the two of them. The head had black eyes with white star pupils and a large jagged mouth. The body had four legs and red lining on the underbelly. The other creature was a yellow bipedal Pokémon, with three claws on each foot. It had cat-like ears and it's eyes seemed closed. Closer to the snout was a pale white-yellow colour. On the top of the body was brown with wide shoulders and it had a small tail with a single red band. "Siren, Spoon, eat up. You need to be nice and strong." He took two bowls from the center of the table that had kibble in them and set them on the floor next to the two creatures, who happily chowed down. Looking at the two creatures, Vito grabbed the ball he'd taken from his night stand and tossed it. Just like Valentino, when Vito threw his out, green light shaped like leaves gave way to a green lizard Pokémon. It had a red belly and underjaw but everything else was a deep green. The eyes were yellow with slit pupils, and purple splotches were scattered around the body, even on the thick green were scattered over the creature's body. "Rose, here you go." He handed the bowl of kibble to the lizard creature. This was the Weril Academy of Pokémon Training in the Weril Region. Those creatures were known as Pokémon, who almost everyone had for either battling, competitions, assistance with work, or even just as friends. Vito and Valentino were two young trainers who had been enrolled in the academy when they were 10. "So, what's the plan fer today?" Valentino asked Vito, looking up from his bacon to ask. Viro pondered for a second as he pulled out a small piece of paper. "So, it seems we have Battle Training up first. Afterwards, we have Tracking, Searching, and Luring. For third period, we have Pokéball Making. Then we have our Lunch period. Our last two classes are Pokepuff Making and Pokémon Evolution and Anatomy." Valentino simply nodded as he finished his food and recalled Siren and Spoon. "Well, we best get walking then." Vito agreed as he recalled Rose and the two got up to leave. As they made their way to the large gymnasium building, they could hear the bell ring signaling for students to get to class. As they filed into the building, they saw many other students sitting at desks on the side where a screen was on the wall. In the center of the floor was something like a stadium. That was used for official battles and used for when training for battles. "Settle down, settle down. Yesterday, we went over type advantages. So today, you will partner up with somebody and battle with them. Mr. Lazarn," Valentino perked up upon hearing his name called. "You must choose to use either your Trapinch or your Abra, you may not use both." Valen nodded. Vito remembered the day Valentino had come running back to the dorm with his new Pokémon. He'd skipped lunch to go searching for Pokémon and found a resting Abra. He had his Trapinch prevent Abra from escaping, then weakened it until he could catch the small Pokémon. He'd been one of the first in his class to catch a second Pokémon. Like students given a project, friends immediately grouped together, some argued for a threeway battle, others tried to find a way not to work with anyone. Valentino and Vito joined together, Valen choosing to use Abra. They then had to wait until their turn to battle in front of class. The two went to opposite ends of the stadium. "Now, students, can anyone tell me why Mr. Lazarn chose his Abra instead of his Trapinch?" The professor searched the crowd of students for any hands. One student finally answered, knowing that the professor wouldn't let the two students battle until he got an answer. "It's because Trapinch is a ground type and Treecko is grass type. If he had chosen Trapinch, he would've been at a type disadvantage." The student groaned after answering, just wanting to see the battle between the two roommates. Sensing the irritation from his students, the professor simply hummed in approval. "Okay, you may begin." Vito quickly placed a small necklace on Rose that had a fang as the pendant. "Okay, Rose, run him down and use Absorb!" Vito commanded, the gecko Pokémon running as quick as possible to Spoon. "Spoon, teleport behind her and use Fire Punch." Valentino was calm when giving orders. The Abra became engulfed in a pinkish orb before appearing behind the Treecko. It's fist became engulfed in flames as it hit the Pokémon, making Rose fall back, heaving for air. Murmurs from off the stadium could be heard. Abra can't learn Fire Punch… Yes, it can, but it only learns it through breeding… I thought he just caught that Abra a little ways off campus… Vito smiled, despite being on the losing end. "Well, aren't you full of surprises? Rose, use Dragonbreath from afar, and then use Absorb!" Rose inhaled a large amount of air before exhaling large purple flames and air. After Rose finished breathing out the flames, she ran down the middle of the flames, bursting out from the flames. Holding her hands out, red strands shot from her hands and arms onto Abra, sucking away energy from it. As the energy pumped into her, Rose's burn marks seemed to heal themselves back up. "While she's still attached, attack her! Fire Punch!" Valentino commanded(Telling himself in his mind that it sounded like a plan his ex-girlfriend had come up with.) with force this time, showing he planned to have the battle ended then and there. Flames engulfed the Abra's fist once more before it punched Rose directly in the face. The Treecko stumbled back before falling down, Vito rushing to her side. Vito pulled out a purple potion, spraying it on Rose. Her injuries slowly started to go away as Vito recalled her back into her Pokéball. "I'll write you a note so you may take her to the nurse between classes. Now, let's discuss what they did in their battle that they could've done better and what they did good." Vito and Valentino gave answers when asked questions but both seemed to have their minds in other places, Valentino being more out of it than Vito. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX As night came, the two boys went to their dorms to "go to sleep." Truthfully, the two snuck out of their room and went to a place in the woods where they hung out, looked for interesting things, and let their Pokémon hang around outside of their Pokeballs. As they came to their normal spot in the middle of the forest, the two set up a small camp. Pitching a small tent and laying out a blanket, the two sat down and let out their Pokémon. "You know, you could've beaten Spoon today. I know what moves Rose has, so why didn't you beat me?" Valentino looked at Spoon and then at Siren who sat in Vito's arms, practically purring. "I figured that Spoon needed a victory. Besides, I had to be slightly grateful considering you didn't choose Siren. If you chose him, he'd spend the whole time listening to me and not you." Vito continued to pet Siren, earning a coo from the Trapinch. Valentino nodded at that, sighing afterwards. "Yeah, that little guy loves you more than he would ever love me." He reached over to pet Siren but the creature attempted to bite at his hand. "Point made." "I think he just needs to get used to you. Give it time." Vito slowly picked up Siren and placed him on Valen's lap. "Well, want to go through the caves? We only got about halfway through them yesterday, and I want to see where it comes out at." He recalled Rose and tightened his hiking shoes. Valentino recalled Spoon and Siren and playfully swooned. "Oh, just think, it could come out at a romantic beach," He paused as he changed to looking menacing. "Or maybe it comes out at a huge terrifying mountain with monsters inside. Either way, let's get a move on. It's only 10 at night, I'm sure we can make it back in time before the morning call." "You know how tired we're going to be? We're really young to be doing this sort of thing." Vito walked through the forest until they came across a large cave. Pulling out a flashlight from his coat pocket, he turned it on and entered. The sound of Zubats were heard quite frequently, which was quite annoying. "Oh well, it'll be good training. Especially for Tracking and such class." As they delved deeper into the cave, they came across a large ponds underground. At one point, Valentino spotted a Deino and almost went to try and catch it before Vito stopped him. "We aren't some all powerful video game characters. I'm sure that if you try and catch that thing, it'll beat both Spoon and Siren and we'll have to cut our journey short." Valen had tried to find some way to argue but he couldn't help but agree with Vito. "Come on, I can hear something. It could be an exit." As the two rushed towards the sound of moving water, they came across a combination of both of Valen's predictions. "Well, you guessed correctly on both parts." A large sandy beach stretched out but further down the beach, both ends ended in a mountain. The area was obviously secluded, and it seemed that the mountains circled around and that is what made the cave as well as hid the beach. "Oh, this is fantastic! A place that only we know of. I wonder what Pokémon are all here, we could find a lot of interesting things," Valentino exclaimed before taking off his shirt, running to the ocean. "The water is perfect. It's like being in a hot tub!" As he walked out further, Vito jumped when he heard Valen yelp. "It gets freezing cold when you go out further!" Vito couldn't help but shake his head at his friend. This place reminded him of his family's summer home in Hoenn, the secluded island was absolutely gorgeous to visit. Looking at the mountains, he remembered all the times he ran from Pokémon that were trying to attack him. Vito walked to the water's edge and waded in after Valen after mostly stripping down. "You know, this reminds me of the time that I tried inviting you along to our Hoenn summer home, but when my parents wouldn't allow it, you helped me for a month with chores so my parents would let you come. You were so happy when they let you!" He laughed along with Valen, the two enjoying the warm water. "Vito! Vitovitovitovito!" Valen turned to Vito and shook him constantly. "What is it? Look, if you used the bathroom in this water, our friendship is over." Vito gave a stern look but couldn't help but crack a smile. Valen shook his head. "No, I didn't do that. Not this time at least. I was going to say, think what we could do every night, or even during lunch! We just need to bring out some fishing rods, maybe take some shovels and pickaxes from the Pokepuff class. We'd have our own summer paradise." Vito remained floating in the water, looking around him as he felt the air tousle his hair around. Both Vito and Valen were only deep enough to have the water up to their necks. Valen was slightly taller than Vito, so it reached up to his shoulders. "Wait, why do we need pickaxes and shovels?" "Think, if there are fossils in the cave and in the mountains, we can dig them up. Maybe in a few years, we'll find some way to bring them back to life. I mean, sure, the chance of us finding one and bringing it back intact is nearly impossible but that means there's still a chance. Also, we can bring some apricots, grow some nice apricots out here and make our own unique Pokeballs." Valen explained, pondering if it could actually work. "Or we can just stick with bringing out fishing rods." Vito just took a deep breath before starting to swim back to the shore. "Come on then, we best be getting back to the dorms before anyone notices we're gone. We'll discuss everything on the way back." XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX As they got further into the cave, a menacing growl became imminent. "Duuuooo…" The two boys ignored it at first, figuring it had to be Deinos from deep within the cave. That's why, when the Pokémon that was slightly bigger than Rose jumped out, it earned a yelp from both Valentino and Vito. The small serpentine Pokémon had two wings fitted to the creature's body with no form of legs. It's body was purple on it's underbelly and on the back were crimson red scales. The body split off into two different heads, one biting at the other one and the victimized head looking extremely fed up. Vito pulled out his Pokédex and pointed it at the Pokémon. Duodrake- The Double Headed Pokémon. These Pokémon, although living in groups, normally just keep to themselves. Although there are occasional fights between the two heads, they normally get along with each other. "I don't know about you but that thing seems pretty angry with itself. It's worse than us." Valentino stared down the Pokémon before looking at Vito. "I think you should catch it." Vito looked shocked. "What?! Why would I catch it?!" "Because you always want to try and catch those irritating and challenging Pokémon." Valen shrugged. "Plus then we'd both have two Pokémon and we could have double battle." Vito sighed, and as much as he didn't like it, he agreed with Valen. "Fine, let's see if I can do this." He tossed out Rose who, upon seeing the serpent, glared it down. She soon found it difficult to keep her eyes on just one head and switched between looking at each head. It was like staring down a chameleon. "Okay, Rose, use Dragonbreath!" Rose took in a deep breath of air and like in her battle with Spoon, spewed out purple flames and air on the serpent. After the flames were gone, Rose was quickly presented with the Duodrake right near it. It's tail was coated in a red and blue aura as it slammed it into Rose's side. She was tossed against the side of the cave wall, giving out a cry. "Don't worry, Rose. We'll get them. Just a little bit left! Use Crunch and follow it up with Absorb!" She pounced from her location on the ground onto the body of Duodrake, biting down with great force. Duodrake seemed as though it wanted to move but electricity crackled around it. Then, from her teeth, red strands attached to the serpent's body, slowly healing Rose's injuries. "Okay, looks like it's good now." He took one of the teal balls from his coat pocket and tossed it at the Duodrake. The ball wobbled for a few seconds before a slight click sound came from it. "Well there we go. You know, this thing seems like it could be pretty good in the long run. Now, we've wasted enough time here. Let's get back to our room." The two agreed as they sprinted back to their dorms, climbing back into their windows and getting into bed. Vito made sure to close the windows this time, not wanting to wake up to the cold air again
