So before a game releases, do you watch youtube videos on the game, or do you avoid spoilers at all costs? For ultra moon, i avoided gameplay videos from people who got it early until i beat the game.
It depends on the game. If a new Pokémon Game comes out, I will avoid spoilers as much as possible, because it wouldn't be interesting anymore for me. But for Games where I don't know if I will buy them or not, I even like Spoilers, since it is a good method to know how "good" they are.
For the most part I'll avoid spoilers, but generally I am ok with official reveals. What I really hate is when people leak important new things. It just kind of spoils the surprises and ruins the hype for me.
In a strange sense of irony, spoilers don't necessarily dampen interest in a particular game. For example, if you really like a game, and then find out there's a lot more beyond what you expected, it can be exciting to know that the game has more content than you thought it did. I try to avoid spoilers if I can, EXCEPT of strategies for dealing with cheap things in the game. This usually gets applied to RPGs, since cheapshots tend to be most frequent in them. In my case, I help run a Discord server where official trailers and the like are OK to post, but leaks prior to official showing, if at all, are not. This was especially important with Splatoon 2, where a huge number of weapons and their kits were leaked early in the game's lifespan. Though I did have a pet peeve with character reveals during 2014 when Smash 4 cast was being revealed. After I heard about Greninja I just wanted to shut out any more mentions of the cast because I wanted the rest to be a surprise. Youtube was not nice about this, and one of my friends kept doing it out loud in a chat X_X
I only look at spoilers if I know I'm never going to play a game, but I still wanna know what happens in it. There's no point in leaving myself in the dark if I'm not gonna be able to play it, right? Otherwise, I avoid them like the plague. Although a lot of the time, I have to actively search for spoilers, even on Youtube.
I can't help but peak at upcoming features usually XD I get too excited I keep them to myself though unless people want to know as well. I'm not THAT mean
I try to avoid spoilers as much as I can. Although like Junkrat, if I know it's unlikely that I'm going to purchase said game, I might as well check out what the hype is (assuming there's any) and what the game is all about.
